  1. 4 minutes is way too long of a time to call in mortar fire when the spotter and mortar crew are within earshot of each other. Somewhere in the range of 2-3 minutes would be more realistic. Until if/when a change is made, there isn't really much of a reason to have on-map mortar crews directly moving with the rifle squads, unless the player plans on using them in direct fire mode or there is no way to maintain a radio link with them.
  2. Apparently, only bunkers carry ammo for the MP44.
  3. All of this makes me wish the Weapons HQ Support unit would be able to maintain radio contact for on-map mortars. As it is right now, if you place an HQ Support unit next a group of mortars from the same platoon, the mortars are listed as being "out of contact."
  4. It's fine how it is modeled now.
  5. I do hope some better animations/positions are being planned for the machine guns, because that looks ridiculous.
  6. Agreed on the request for hi-res textures. I have a computer that can handle them.
  7. M1919s and M1917s are notoriously finicky for being able to fire from behind a hedgerow. If I get a save file that shows this behavior I'll also upload it.
  8. I really like your work as well, Fuser. Having been in the military, your work definitely more accurately depicts what military equipment looks like after spending weeks in the field. That said, I have just one area to point out that I think would make your work look even better and more accurate in the future: on all of your anti-tank guns/field guns, etc., you've added some rust to the textures. While rust would certainly been seen on guns like this, it wouldn't typically be seen until the equipment had spent a very long time out in the open and exposed to a lot of moisture. That, and a search on Google showed me that these guns were actually coated with rust-proof paint before being sent to the front. So, IMO I think your rust effect should either be eliminated or toned down dramatically. I know you've already invested a lot of time in all these mods, so I don't expect you to go back and re-do them, but if you could keep the above advice in mind when modding the remaining field I think it'd be a good thing.
  9. Sure, they are, but I figured you'd be modding them in order to maintain a consistent look with all the other terrain textures you're modifying.
  10. Looking very good! I assume the railroad tracks will also be a part of this mod?
  11. The M1919A6 was an attempt to make the M1919 a light machine gun by attaching a buttstock and lighter barrel, but it ended up being heaving than the Lewis MG.
  12. Looks to me like part of the texture for the MP44 ammo pouch is not mapped correctly:
  13. Ah, OK. Thanks for the clarification!
  14. My preference (at least with the American side), is to split off an Assault Team once I know contact with the enemy is likely. That way I can provide a good base of fire with the Garands and BAR, while the squad leader charges forward with his SMG in the lead of the assault team. Once the assault team reaches its destination, then the base of fire team bounds forward ahead of the Assault team. This way, one team is always providing cover while the other is maneuvering into position. Especially with a big, heavy gun like the BAR, this works pretty well (you don't really want that type of gun leading an assault). It's just a shame the American rifle squads typically don't have more than one SMG.
  15. Yes, I believe that is what was the case. Most likely they carried ammo for the squad MGs in 100-200 round ammo cans.
  16. Oh, and as for the Germans, the standard ammo load for K98 riflemen was two sets of ammo pouches that held 45 rounds each, for a total of 90 rounds. G43 riflemen would have one ammo pouch with ammo on stripper clips, plus 3 10-round magazines, for a total of 75 rounds. Of course, as was mentioned above, this is what the manuals/TOE called for, so variation in those numbers in the field certainly did occur.
  17. This page is a nice help for U.S. Infantry combat loads: http://www.45thdivision.org/Pictures/General_Knowlege/combatload.htm
  18. Yeah, SMGs should be opening up at no more than 200 meters, and at that sort of range the accuracy should not be that great. There's a reason, after all, why the Germans developed the MP44. Yep. I once lost a number of infantry to an AT gunner (Regular skill level) that was shooting at my men with a P38 from behind a hedgerow at about 100 meters distance. That's a bunch of nonsense.
  19. Yeah, well, the point is to get the terminology right. Right now it's not consistent. There's no need to be a smartass in reply to what was just a simple observation. @Statisoris: thanks for the info! I also found this info on US engineers during WWII: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Army_Corps_of_Engineers So, it seems that "pioneers" were indeed used by the Army in the Pacific to clear routes of advance as you mentioned, but in Europe it was "engineers" only.
  20. I wonder if the perceived ineffectiveness of the MG34/42 has anything to do with the fact that the AI will often fire it like an assault rifle instead of with the bipod deployed?
