  1. Heh you mean like the original post? Suffice it to say if in CMBS we have an urban scenario, the rules of engagement are going to be pretty much use anything you can to eliminate your opponent. Think Arnhem 1944, both sides were shelling the city environs and the civilians were still trapped in the battleground..
  2. I went to see Jetho Tull one year, whitesnake opened for them. I almost left. Not quite as bad as Alex Harvey opening for Zappa though, they got booed off.....twice. Phila is a tough crowd.
  3. Blasphemy! Burn him! He's a witch, Begone foul spawn of Mephistopheles!
  4. This thread is headed for closure if folks don't change the direction it is going.
  5. Couple items, Pearl Harbor while a devastating blow was a Hail Mary pass by Japan. All it accomplished in the long run was to absolutely unite the U.S. for the long haul. In the short run it missed the carriers that were the critical target. I would also not characterize the U.S. as quite "cocky". Japan's aggression in the pacific had been going on for almost 10 years. The U.S. weakness was more not understanding that Japan was reaching a tilting point with a willingness to risk a war it could not win. That is actually a relevant point for the current situation. When does Putin feel he is backed up so much to risk a wider war. I don't think we really know what he is capable of. As to the U.S. strength, it isn't technology, it is having a highly trained professional army functioning at a very high level with the logistical capability to back it up. ADD to that a technological capability second to none. Even in a low tech grunt intensive conflict that they faced in Iraq, the U.S. soldiers time and again showed a combat capability not dependent on tech to fight.
  6. look I realize you live out of your car, but "housecleaning" still applies. For the record, I did not clean those pants. I burned them. After that pig sty you call a car, there was no salvaging them. As a point for future reference sitting on concrete blocks while making pretend engine and tire squealing noises does not qualify as "taking someone for a ride". I don't know what "services" you are providing the parking dept, but it is interesting your derelict has not been removed yet.
  7. The "next" unexpected war is the use by Russia of hybrid war, whereby they claim there force aren't really involved. They hide behind a proxy. If NATO goes toe to toe with Russia that won't work any longer and Russia is less prepared to fight that next real war by far than the west. Simply put Russia is not significantly more capable of waging an offensive war against the west than Hussein was. In Putin's mind he may think Russia is still a first world power. If this escalates to that degree however he will find out just how badly mistaken that premise is. Russia has no power projection capability to the degree that the USSR had. There will be no "Battle of the Atlantic", the Russia navy isn't even a ghost of it's former might. The best hope of survival of the Russian Air Force is to stay on the Russian side of that border as a threat in being. If it were to fly into Ukrainian airspace and that includes the entire sovereign area of Ukraine, they won't have an Air Force. The only real question for CMBS scenario creation is how well does NATO do at overcoming Russian air defenses while maintaining it's defense of Ukrainian air space.
  8. I think it depends on your success in thr previous mission, but someone who worked on the campaign parameters would have to say for sure.
  9. I expect he might mean using Javelins or precision arty. Getting your snipers close enough to do any good on the TGs usually ends up with them dead.
  10. I don't know about backs to the wall, Poking the bear you'll have to ask PnzrLdr. I only played the hard version. And for what it's worth I enjoyed the hell out of testing it. It taught me a lot about what to expect in CMBS capabilities as frankly, all this stuff is new to me. The other part I found interesting is there are essentially two battles. The struggle by the NATO side to coordinate the assault on the Russian formation using the UAVs, air assets and arty, and then the close in fight between the recon element and the Russian forces trying to deny you the eyes on you need. It is a fun challenge to push outward and pressure the Russian force. It is also quite dangerous.
  11. It is funny that those old ASL leader counters have left such an impression. How many people on this forum DON"T appreciate the last few posts?
  12. mmmm lobster. Do the ones from space taste as good?
  13. yeah, but with the way you drive you'd likely take out a few busloads of Seattle's finest and miss me completely. Not that that would be a bad thing,.
  14. damn with a steal your face logo I am tempted, but I am a bit maxed out on CM stuff at the moment and am about to be on the road a bit anyway.
  15. There are two versions, an easy and a hard, not sure which one you got. Learning how to use your FOs, UAVs, arty and airstrikes is the whole point of this scenario.
  16. Actually the damage to Fallujah was severe and started with an artillery barrage. Most of the civilians had been evacuated and it was pretty much a free fire zone. Despite that the U.S. still suffered 95 dead and 560 wounded. I believe there was an estimated 800 civilian casualties. You do not want to fight to take city if you can avoid it.
  17. It looks a lot like a variation of Studienka. George MC if so.
  18. Yep, I playtested this one to death LOL Very different kind of situation. Pay attention to your briefing and make sure you understand the intent and possible force facing you. Figure out your plan before you start setting up and review the map very closely. It is possible to get a total victory, but not likely your first run through.
  19. I almost never have a crash, but it can happen for a variety of reasons. Here is info to help you find your crash dump file. Rename it something like rainy river and send it off to the minions of the helpdesk. Odds are it is still in the folder location. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3396005/where-can-i-find-windows-crash-dump-blue-screen-crash-dump Your crash dump location will depend on what is set in the system. To find out where it is located go to your control panel, then system, then advanced system settings (in Windows 7) or the advanced tab (in Windows XP), click the startup and recovery 'settings' button. Near the bottom of the startup and recovery settings window will be a dump file location text box which will specify where you can find it. More info about dump files can be found here -> http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2008/01/08/understanding-crash-dump-files.aspx
