  1. If you'd check around you'd find BF actually may have a work around for you, but you don't get it by venting your spleen on the forum. well maybe you do, cause you got me to reply. LOL Check in with the helpdesk, I know Steve had commented during the CMBS DL issue about having some alternative. Not sure if they will help you here, but it is most definitely gonna get you more than this thread. Steve has pretty bad bandwidth limitations so he does understand your pain. The reason for going with the larger installer was to stop the constant complaints from folks who couldn't read the read me file to install their game, so they tried to come up with something idiot proof. Idiot proofing comes with a price tag of 9g. I do get your frustration, but unfortunately the complaints of the old copy protection is what got us here. One of those be careful what you wish for things.
  2. so far BF has not stated any real interest, but one never knows. I really want to do Stonne using GD'40 from The Gamers as an op layer for planning. dang. gotta wipe the drool off my keyboard.
  3. woot! I'd vote for that, especially if the next engine allows helo's on map!
  4. Totally disagree, the closest we got to jungles was LLF's super duper mod. CMFI is totally unique, probably the most unique of the current CMx2 games. Urban landscaping in CMFI looks nothing like the other titles (and is why I spend so much time in this particular game. If you aren't noticing the differences between families you need to spend more time down in the trenches with your pixeltruppen. Yes map making is time consuming and tedious. Good maps are anyway. Maps that are translated from title to title will not look quite the same and will be missing a lot of what goes into creation of a truly good map. You won't be able to mod huts in Vietnam and yes you can mod jungle foliage like LLF did, but even he wasn't truly satisfied with the map results for Makin despite how great it looked. CMFI CMRT CMBN /MG CMSF- Ramadi
  5. I think the only thing you can really tell is that while there is plenty of crossover, there is also a distinct community really into the modern stuff. I suspect Normandy and Bulge will still be top selling items as BF has continually said that period generates most sales. I do wonder though if that dynamic is changing with time as we get further and further from that generation. Is the younger audience more prone to be interested in current?
  6. Area fire and frag your guy then do "buddy aid" and hope you didn't damage it.
  7. Actually delete the 101 brz and then just run a reinstall. The two primary files are the additional brz for the patch and the exe file. You have to reinstall to fix the exe, but you can just delete the brz. It will not cost an activation.
  8. So that is the trick, I've been wondering why my attempts have not been as good as yours when modifying the map.
  9. facing the reality of what coding might be required is not a "negative" approach. It is called realistic planning. You started with an assumption that it was a straightforward easy approach to change TAC AI, now you say it is a straightforward approach to introduce something in code that doesn't yet exist and attach tac ai to it. I am not saying it can't be done. It may be possible, maybe even desirable, but it isn't straightforward. Introducing new units with new capabilities does not at all imply there is a "class" of units that then has particular TAC AI behavior. This isn't Panzer Campaigns*. As you might put it - Ok, ok, I understand that you want particular TAC AI behavior for a "class" of vehicle that does not exist in code. You want them so badly that you even argue for code behavior for items that do not even exist. That's an interesting attitude. *not to imply anything negative, simply that the PC series does have unit class attributes
  10. Really skinfaxi, you gave me a negative point for simply stating the current reality, dang dude. Get a grip
  11. Well as Mick says, you can't always get what you want. Word around the MBT is Emrys is none too picky, mostly due to lack of choice (or taste) in the matter.
  12. Straightforward to you, but your ability to listen to others is , well nonexistent. THAT is an interesting attitude. What you consider straightforward is a specific behavior of a specific vehicle type which CM doesn't even recognize (there is no "recon" type vehicle in the game) so that would have to be a new creation just for starters. In CM a Lynx is just a vehicle with vehicle attributes. That it was historically a recon vehicle is irrelevant in code terms right now. What makes it a recon vehicle is how you as the player use it. So go tell Phil that creating a new coding parameter, vehicle class with certain tac AI attributes for the new class "recon" vehicle is a straightforward solution and see how far that gets you.
  13. Not sure why we have to have an either/or. How about they update CMSF in its original setting while continuing the modern series in other settings? We can have our cake and eat it too, it just takes patience. Assuming Steve maintains his position about not wanting to do APAC, the focus of titles does have limits. BF has the rest of the eastern front, another Italian module, the "Bulge" game and then? Assuming that is 4 families, they have done that pretty much in just the last few years. Really the next big thing is gonna be what do they cover when they get to do the next iteration of the engine? Start all over?
  14. Sorry took me a while to find it, not one of my usual reads. I won't vouch for the article, but it is an interesting thought anyway. http://theweek.com/articles/538617/putins-greatest-fear--nothing-american-weapons
  15. LOL no sir I am a rookie still learning the tricks of the trade.
  16. I think in my experience with Venafro you can not place a vehicle into a marsh tile. You could just surround the tile with something. You may be able to take a HQ unit and get it down to a single guy and that would also make the pilot feel important. The advantage of putting the pilot in is you have to get him out alive. Similar to the consulate scenario for CMSF that was just done. I did a similar experiment with medics in CMSF, found the downside. It is really hard to get the medics to do buddy aid being a single person depending on AS placement of the casualty.
  17. Absolutely. I see no reason to hunt around for another story etc etc or change the time frame. I'd really like just to see the same game updated and perhaps some additions to the force mix. The idea originally was simply to get CMSF up to the state it could follow the model of the other x2 games to keep the engine current. Changing the scope or background story/ timeline sounds like project creep. Keep it profitable and reduce the effort, keep it simple. I think most folks who want to see CMSF 2 are looking mostly to just see it updated, not changed. Hmm sounds like an idea for a poll.
  18. He may have read it, but he always complained that the sanskrit comics were nowhere near as good as the stuff in his childhood. I would say read in his childhood, but that was in the days before written language.
  19. I only trust documentation provided to one Wiley E Coyote by ACME corporation.
  20. heh heh lots of suppositions there. Can't say they are wrong though i disagree with quite a bit of it, it is just my opinion. I like making maps, but what I like about it is the flavor and character of the map.. That cannot carry between games, flavor items aren't going to match up etc. For example, my favorite CM game to make urban maps in is CMFI, the buildings in CMBN/CMRT just don't look as good to me so trying to migrate those maps is pointless. That is assuming the buildings could even migrate. As to content, units are not the only thing I look for. I also look for new terrain and building types etc that frequently come with the modules and as to the maps, don't tell that to the scenario creators. There isn't whole lot of map re use going on, in fact only one I know of. I don't actually know how BF feels about this whole discussion, but for me personally it is not a big item. Most of the work that goes into a map is still going to have to be done. The scenario overlay tool was a far better use of their time. - THAT was a huge time saver.
  21. kohlenklau, this thread was worth it just to get those jokes. way too funny
