GhostRider3/3 reacted to The_Capt in Combat Mission Cold War - British Army On the Rhine
    Cold Warriors.
Well it looks like Steve has already dropped the mic over on the annual update thread, so let myself, Bil H and Cpt Miller (along with a small team of unwashed heathens - two of whom are actually from the UK), be the second to announce the first CMCW Module - CMCW - British Army On the Rhine (BAOR).

We are still in development so I will only outline the broad strokes of what we are working on, and insert the caveat that we reserve the right to add/subtract -
     - Time frame of the game is going deeper backwards into the Cold War.  We are setting the clock back to 1976, so CMCW will now encompass 1976-1982 (including some minor tweaks to the existing US orbats).  As has been noted we are less interested in the later Cold War years largely because they really do start to resemble the later CM titles and we are shooting to keep CMCW distinct in its own right.
    - UK BOAR - right now we have a pretty comprehensive build planned for the UK units as they transitioned from their 1974 structures - to where they landed in 1980.  As per the picture above players should be able to become deeply engaged within the historical BAOR sector of the ETO.
    - And because I just have to represent the home team, we are also doing the Canadians.  That little black box is the planned 4 CMBG AO - you will note this was right at the tail end when the brigade was still part of the BAOR, although for those that really want to play First Clash and park them down in Lahr you are fee to do so because the basic unit structures remained the same.
    - We do have plans for the Soviet side, but are going to hold off on details until we zero them fully in...more to follow.
    - I will let you all speculate and discuss what new vehicles and weapon systems we are talking about but there is a not insignificant list of new ones we are planning - more as we start to get some cool screen shots.
As noted by Steve, we are well on our way and are planning for a release this year - content and full scope remains TBA.
Thank you all very much for your support, the response to CMCW has been well beyond what we were expecting and that is entirely thanks to you guys.

    coming soon

CMRT FESTUNG BUDAPEST UNCLES AND PUPS
    ^
    Buda, Hungary. 1 January 1945.
By 26 December 1944, Soviet forces were finally able to
complete the outer encirclement of Budapest when lead
units of the 18th Tank Corps linked up with forward
elements of the 6th Guards Tank Army northwest of the city
near Estergom. Initial penetrations by Soviet
reconnaissance elements toward the heart of the Axis
defenses, the Vasbegy area, were made from northwest of
the Buda side of the city. These first attacks were
stopped near the new St. Janos Hospital on Christmas Day
by a combined force of squads from the Hungarian
University Assault Battalion and the city gendarmes.
Beginning on 30 December, units of the Soviet 108th Guards
Rifle Division's 311th Guards Rifle Regiment, supported by
    SU-76Ms from the 1897th Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment
launched a series of attacks from the area around the
hospital in an effort to dislodge the Axis defenders from
    the Varosmajor.
    ^
You are a Captain in the 311th Guards Rifle Regiment. Your
force is a company of infantry paired with 5 self-
    propelled guns.
    ^
The Axis force is most likely a Hungarian infantry unit
dug in on their own soil and supported by heavy weapons.
    ^
Press forward to take the Cogwheel Railway embankment and
    the rail station.
    ^
You have 15-20 minutes to achieve your mission. Points are
awarded for destroying enemy units and getting to several
touch objectives as well as holding them from enemy
    counterattack.
Note: this is my translation from an existing ASL scenario. It will also be playable as axis vs AI. The mod makes the Germans look and sound like Hungarians.

    @Bearstronaut: 😂😂😂
Indeed, I have asked BF, if there was the possibility to give support without any financial interest. The result was: no reaction - but this is ok👍🏻
At the moment, this Pack is like a start up = good potential with no finished product. So, now it is my turn to provide a finished product of high quality😎

    When will be the release?
The ideal date will be the 22.06.2023. But I won't promise too much....for sure, release will be 2023 !
    What's the current progress?
The biggest campaign "Tiger Trail" is in its final testing stage as a Betaversion. It will be ready for 22nd June release.
The "Five Bridges" Campaign has seen most of the map making, which is (with my experience) the most time consuming aspect - testing will start in March.
The "Into Hell" Campaign the same.
The "Partisans" Land Campaign (the smallest of all) is in the middle of map making and will be ready for testing in April.
So - to quote the guys from Battlefront 😉 "it will be ready when it's ready."
Will there be any single Missions?
Currently, I have plans for 3 single Missions but I doubt to have the time to put effort in these ones. So, let's see....
Is there a possibility to increase the number of campaigns or single missions for that BattlePack?
Of course. As the headline says, this is a project made by fan(s) of CM and everybody who wants to participate is very welcome. Honestly I have to say that I have written a mail to Battlefront and offered them this stuff (without financial interests) in order to get designs, briefings etc. more professional but they ignored myself 😜
So, if anybody is motivated to create stuff, doesn't matter if one small single mission or a whole campaign, then this would be very appreciated 👍 The only condition is:
the stuff must match the BattlePacks main theme "Summer of Destruction June to July 1944, ArmyGroup Central".
Will there be any Master Maps?
Currently, the pack will include 12 Master maps but this number may change until release.

We have the announcement of a (hopefully) stunning new module for CMFB, for a absolutely great CMBN BattlePack, for a very interesting CMFI BattlePack - so WW II fans like me are happy wth the coming stuff in 2023.
BUT, something is missing....where is the CMRT ? No new content after the release of the fantastic BattlePack of George MC in 2022 😢

    And here it is:
While back after a long break, Mr.X was very busy and is working on a FanMade BattlePack for 2023. More to come....

Oh dear, I'm reminded that I was playing this last June (😱) and then got distracted by H2Hs and testing scenarios for a certain excellent BP that was coming out.
    My apologies James!
So in my scenarios folder I have:
A Once Quiet Town A Once Quiet Town Easier V2 A Once Quiet Town German Counterattack and also
A Pleasant Italian Town V2 which looks like (and is the same filesize as) A Once Quiet Town Anway, without thinking, I re-installed Counterattack, but I've just tested it and my save loads up fine, so I think I already had the same version.  And no excuse not to continue.
    Great work James, thanks.

Hello, you can grab any of my scenarios here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/vp0uuu1nu7o9vtt/A Once Quiet Town Easier V2.btt?dl=0   The easier V2 is the most updated and balanced.  It is designed in mind with a major Allied attack across a river in a narrow bit of Italy over the Marano River.  A good use of smoke should be used when making your crossing and disrupting any enemy spotters and guns.  The second mission to this is the German counterattack version where the German 26th Panzer is now in place to throw a counterattack at the Allies who supposedly would have crossed it and taken the town.

If you intend to play as the Allies then you might get away with playing the harder version if you are playing against the AI but trust me, you don't want to be playing the harder version if it's H2H, unless you are very, very good!

Just wanted to give a big thanks to Jim Das Selvas for taking the time and energy to put this very large if not huge scenario through its trials.  There are two versions.  The one Jim is currently playing and one that is slightly easier, only because it offers another avenue across the river.  You can watch Jim plot and plan the Germans demise here.

Yeah sadly this Summer I had been gone mostly for work.  I have not really had a chance to do much of anything as of late.  The early war stuff would be great, but I dont think this will ever happen, unfortunately because I think it brings out the best of Combat mission when tactics was more relevant than the 1200m kills from Panthers and the lot and you had short barrel 75 guns, mediocre 37mm to 47mm guns.  Anyhow I am working on some more Italian Theatre maps for some Brazilian units.. probably 2-3 small to medium unit actions.  Then if I have the time will be making a Master Map or so of the Brody-Dubno area perhaps.
