General Jack Ripper reacted to GreenAsJade in CM Helper 1.6.1 available
    I just noticed this one.

CMH is basically an evolution of H2HH.   And it's only the first little step in the evolution: as you observed, it doesn't change much.   So as long has H2HH is working fine for you, there is no need to upgrade yet.

FWIW, the main benefits of CMH right now are:
All games on one tab Reports to you whether your CM versions are up to date It's supported.  If you have a problem with H2HH, the first thing I will ask you to do is move to CMH. GaJ

General Jack Ripper got a reaction from Fizou in Poll: Would you prefer the original 2008 Syrian setting or something up to date for CMSF II
I know I posted in here before but I must stress this point.

The whole reason I bought Shock Force in the first place was it's setting. At the time Shock Force came out, many of my friends had joined the military, and some had been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Having some of my friends deployed to a war zone on the other side of the planet made me naturally curious. Unfortunately there were not many good sources of information aside from the television, and some internet bloggers. While writers and television can describe events, they cannot really convey the gravity of events.

I think video games are a medium that allows an audience, to some small degree, to experience an event. However, with the fate of Atomic Games Seven Days in Fallujah, it seemed that video game developers were effectively told to back off. For some reason examining the events of the recent conflict was considered to be "too sensitive a topic for the public".

Here at Battlefront, it seemed no one got that memo, and we were given Combat Mission: Shock Force, in my opinion the most realistic depiction of war in a middle eastern country ever made. It offers those who have not experienced it a very small, but well built window into what may have been the most important event of the 21st century. It also stands as a unique product from Battlefront. While we will get other modern warfare titles in the future, something tells me they won't be jumping back into the sandbox anytime soon.

So for anyone who says Shock Force should be rebuilt into a different setting, think carefully about what you are saying. The first game of a new generation, and a completely unique setting as far as Battlefront Games goes, deserves to be preserved in it's original form going into the future.

Well, that's all I have to say about that.

I ran a livestream while testing this scenario. You can find it here: http://www.twitch.tv/raptor_pilot
I'll warn you, there's about 5 hours of gameplay to wade through. I'll be posting some highlights later.
The stream's not super quality, I'm trying to find settings that work.

So far I'm enjoying the scenario. One of my tanks got immobilized on the wrong side of the airport, and that pissed me off a bit. I also wasted time hunting down an enemy team outside of Alpha. I have a platoon securing Alpha right now, but the enemy tanks have just showed up. I'm going to have to take care of them before I can commit the rest of my forces.

Also, I have never, ever used a CAAT team before. Hopefully they won't just get blown up. I did manage to hit a T-72 with a TOW missile, but the thing just shrugged it off and kept driving. Grrr.

One thing I will say, the enemy tanks just seem to be sprinting across the map, with no real concern about locating my forces. My one operational Abrams killed three T-72's and the rest of them just drove right on by. Maybe adding time to the A.I. waypoints might slow them down a little, and let them observe a bit more. Right now they're just driving at full speed while buttoned up directly into a hasty ambush.

Once I have highlights I'll post them on YouTube and link them here.

I know I slacked off last weekend. (AAP challenge and some total war had to be done)
I'll definitely play through this either tonight or tomorrow and write up some notes.

Mark Twain once wrote his paper to inform them: "The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated."

To those who have expressed concern for my health and well-being, my thanks and I will reply to you individually as soon as I can get my e-mail program to send as well as receive. For all of you who may be interested, I will write a more detailed report as soon as I can and post it in the GF, which is I think a more appropriate forum for such discussions. But not to keep you in too much suspense, I will say here that on the 26th. of March I was struck by a pickup truck which resulted in 11 broken ribs and a broken clavicle (no, that is not a baroque musical instrument). Since then I have spent five days in hospital and about two and a half months in a nursing facility and only arrived home today. I am in pretty good shape due to some good rehab work by some dedicated people. More later.

If your squads are split into teams, then short waypoints won't slow you down too much. Troops don't actually "pause" at each waypoint so much as just "wait for everyone to arrive" before moving on. Small teams don't have to wait as long because instead of waiting for 13 guys to get in position, you only have to wait for 4 or 5.
You'll lose maybe 5 seconds every minute, which is relatively insignificant. If you need to move fast, plot a series of short [Quick] moves with a 5 second pause at each waypoint. Your troops will move fast, but not become too fatigued. It also works to reduce fatigue while using [Hunt], using 3 AS length waypoints with 10 second pauses will ensure you can cross vast distances using [Hunt] without your men getting exhausted.
It is slower than running straight to your destination, but it's a heck of a lot safer when contact is imminent.

The results are in, Schürzen does work.

The hit decal circled in red shows a complete penetration. The decal circled in green shows no penetration. The hit text records the fact the armor skirt took the impact. The shot was from a Bazooka at 80 meters. Schürzen is designed to protect against HEAT rounds, and it works as advertised.

"Does Bill (sic) H (sic) still play?" What a wonderfully complex question!

Rather, you should ask,"Has he ever "played""?

Some would describe his style as being on a plateau far above mere "playing". Others are just ignorant.

Although his abilities are immeasurable, rumor has it that his hands begin to tremor when he hears "stens".

Gah! Hoist by my own petard! In a non-sequitur sort of way.

My only excuse is that BLSTK's constant bleating about sheep had me concerned about rampant animal viral-strain STD's being introduced at the party.

Really. It's a weak excuse, I know, and it may make some say "ewe!" in disgust, but there it is.

Alright look, I have to weigh in on the price discussion because this is getting ridiculous.

Combat Mission is cheaper than Call of Duty.

Okay there, I said it, and if you still don't get it I assume you are somehow unaware that nearly all new console games these days cost $60 or more. I'd say we're getting one heck of a game, for not as much as the crappy console games that have been coming out these days.

yeah have looked at those in fact Broadsword and I had used one as an op layer and it was promising.  Then BF screwed us and released CMRT.  Broadsword is an East front semi grog.

Note the normal price of the game is $264.  If you want the full Market Garden Experience on that system, be prepared to shell out $400.

I might have spent $400 on all my CM games so far and I can not only do all of MG, but Normandy, a good portion of the Italian Campaign, a sliver of the East Front and two weirdo games about a hypothetical conflict in Ukraine 2017 or Syria 2008......

And my cat can't f**k with my game. Oh and the AI absolutely sucks in those games.  I sat there for 3 days waiting for the AI and finally rage quit.  Ended up losing a few parts and had to buy the darn game all over again.

Now we aren't comparing apples and oranges here.  Those guys have physical items they need to print at cost.  It is not just software.  That is what confuses people.  They equate physical items to cost instead of labor to create physical items to cost.  Software has physical labor as well.

No I will not go on to quote Das Kapital.

One nice thing about the Bulge battles is its one of the few theaters of operation where CM-style 'meeting engagements' feel legitimate. You've got two opposing tank armies both on the move. Often in the fog! Most other CM theaters of operations attack vs defense is the rule. Attack vs attack seems 'gamey' somehow, opposing tank battalions would never really stumble upon each other blindly, right? In the Bulge maybe they would! Also most other theaters German armor would never outnumber American armor in a battle. In the Bulge maybe they would!
There's another advantage - in my mind at least - in that the opening engagements are so badly documented. That's a good thing. All was confusion and panic. So you can construct imagined 'semi-historical' scenarios of the wildest sort without guilt. No references to consult. Nobody's going to call you out for using Hetzers instead of Jpz IVs in a particular engagement, excepting in the better-documented encounters.
