  1. Thanks for the link. Interesting. Wish Billings talked more about WITP and WITE. (And is Grigsby a recluse? Never seen him interviewed.) I have been too intimidated to play much of WITE but enjoy WITPAE because when I come back to the CM2 series they seem so comparatively easy LOL.
  2. Fascinating to read about Schilling. I recall he bought one of my favorite cardboard wargame companies "The Gamers" and after he bought the AH rights I thought he would be focusing on MMP and hardcore wargames. Sounds similar to Tom Clancy's Red Storm Entertainment. That started wanting to do wargames and next thing they're trying to do fantasy stuff. When I were a lad you'd see folks who were very successful in one area assuming they could do anything they wanted. But, in those days it was often movies they wanted to get into. Now it's MMO's. A truly cautionary tale. Am glad that BF hasn't been lured into any similar hubris.
  3. Thanks. That would certainly help. However, am curious if I am doing something wrong, or if my software is outdated. I should be able to select a single file and drag it to my desktop without name or path length issues. I recall that I have had similar problems with a couple of scenario files. I just cannot drag the unzipped file to any other location.
  4. Tried what you suggested - trying to extract individual folder and file. (Boy, that's going to take a long time.) However, still have problems. One of the folders that was problematic was POLISH VOICES. I created a folder called that on my desktop, so very short directory name. But I STILL could not extract some of the wave folders from the unzipped folder. eg: "polish heavy target big gun 2.wav". I cannot even click and drag that individual wav file (or "polish heavy target big gun 3.wav") out of its folder directly onto my desktop at all. Am I using the wrong version of WinRAR?
  5. It's no problem putting the cam file into the folder. But, no I wasn't sure what to do about the mods. I think it's cos some of the filenames are too long. I have encountered one or two other mod sets that created the same error messages. Not sure why I have that problem and apparently others don't. On the other hand if the mods included with this campaign are edited from existing mods(??), then I probably have them all anyway. Thanks again for the campaign.
  6. Just found this thread and it is very informative and useful. Thank you (again), Jason.
  7. Wonderful. Thanks. Note - when I tried to install I got a lot of error messages - I think re the names of a lot of files being too long to copy over.
  8. BF has said they are considering a CMSFII, but nothing more for the current CMSF version.
  9. An certain this issue was discussed at great length in the WW2 CM2 games about why (some) MG's either took forever to set up in buildings or never could fire out of a window. The reason was the same as I gave here earlier... that at least some support weapons couldn't fire out of a window cos they were too low. Am pretty sure that applied to the 50 cal for example - and in recent games I have yet to be able to have a 50 cal deploy to fire out of a window. Regarding other support weapons fifing out of windows... Was that a bug that has been fixed?
  10. The LOS issue is caused by the fact that when they lie down they can't see out of the windows. There are a lot of LOS issues in CM2 created by the fact that the pixeltruppen are not able to think for themselves and use "common sense" to adjust their position so that they can fire a primary weapon. They cannot move (say) a HMG or gun a few inches to fire at a target when the 3rd ammo bearer has good LOS to a target.
  11. "2) The return of the ability to select a unit by clicking on its movement orders line." This!!!!!!!!! I still play quite a lot of CM1 and in larger scenarios it is a huge time saver to simply click on a waypoint to select a unit when wanting to change or add to a waypoint.
  12. Re putting AI triggers in old campaigns. Understandably, that is a lot of work. But, surely it is less work than coming up with completely new campaigns with AI triggers. The CM2 series now boasts many brilliant campaigns (if you add them all together) - but they are spread thinly over the older releases. May be worth polling if players would enjoy playing the old campaigns over again (leastways I would) - they would feel new thanks to the triggers.
  13. Very impressive list... thanks for all that work!
  14. Mord: Do we need to pick the one portrait per arm of service we like (ie: 3 portraits total each for German and Russian), or can one simply put one of the entire subfolder choices (eg: "B Heer Flag") into the Z folder?
  15. Interesting article - as were the comments that followed it. Thank you, Gaz...
  16. Yes, having to deal with the consequences of your actions/successes/failures in one battle continue to the next battle(s) is what makes CM such a great game. That's one of the reasons that it is vital for BF to put more focus on Campaigns that use/exploit all the features that their game engine allows - branching, penalizing excessive friendly casualties, destruction of "valuable" buildings, core units, as well as using up too much ammo etc etc. After CMSF was patched to its current (excellent) iteration, the campaigns that were created for CMSF by volunteer players became increasingly sophisticated, and many were quite brilliant. As new CM2 titles were released it seems like the campaigns have unfortunately become increasingly cookie cutter, simplistic and rather boring. It's understandable that campaigns have been neglected since the work involved is tremendous - several man-months to create a good campaign. That's not sustainable by volunteers. I am very happy to hear that BF is planning Campaign modules to sell. That may be more important than continually creating new CM2 products.
  17. It's rather unhelpful when someone expresses an opinion and the discussion immediately veers off into attacking the person because of the words he used rather than considering the content of his post. I agree that the campaigns are very weak (and seeming to get weaker) compared to the ones we had in previous releases. CM2 allows for a great deal of sophistication in campaigns what with branching, being penalized for using too much ammo or losing too many men and materiel or damaging buildings etc. What we're seeing now (in all the recent CM2 releases) are campaigns where (usually) little or none of that matters anymore. I suspect that the vast majority of customers play vs the AI. Campaigns are the best way to experience CM2. And also, this is an entertainment product with wonderful verisimilitude. But, customers need content to play the game.
  18. Thanks or the scenario Scipio. And I second the request for the silhouettes etc. Game just doesn't feel complete without em.
