  1. Good point. When one sees an ATGM fired at night, it basically looks like a fast-moving flare, and burning vehicles illuminate the surrounding area. The main difference is that a flare would have to have a greater area of illumination. Maybe that is the issue?
  2. Good advice. There is always the temptation to keep every unit "doing something". In CM2 there are frequently periods of time where one simply has to wait several turns for some other action to be completed - and that can be frustrating (for those of us who are impatient for "action"). The other lesson is that one should, if at all possible, not "stand and die". If you find units in bad situations it's almost always better to FAST move them to safety and NOT try and fight it out while bringing up reinforcements (ie don't reinforce failure piecemeal).
  3. It might be better placement to have the GEN DISCUSSION forum either on top, or at the very bottom of the page of forums. I recall it took me a while to figure out there was a separate "General Discussion" forum in addition to the "CM General Discussion" forum since the former is mixed in with other forums "down there someplace".
  4. I don't recall ever seeing partially repaired vehicles. AFAIK it's all new or nothing.
  5. It has been surprising that such a big thing has been made of this - more days' press than for example the Veteran's Day Tomb of the Unknown Soldier ceremony for example. As you say, it's all based on the single uncorroborated story that this boy has been telling since 1944. FWIW news in the UK is quite different from what we see in the US. For example another news item I have noticed in the UK is that some in the UK/Europe see China as the upcoming ally and economic partner and not the US(!). So, the media buzz about these US airmen plus all the US military aircraft flypasts might be a subtle reminder that the US is still here in force.
  6. Ok, that part of the story I didn't see told - even though it's been big news for days. Makes more sense now. Thanks for the explanation.
  7. Oh yes, have seen that a couple of times. Great documentary style movie.
  8. Clearly that is a problem. But, am confident it will be overcome by autonomous AI technology. Kinda like when the CO loses C2 for whatever reason, the subordinates don't just give up... with an understanding of the overall objectives, they carry on. The tech isn't there yet for civilian use. But, on a battlefield one could take more risks with autonomous weapons systems.
  9. I would prefer your idea over Iron Mode. Interesting.
  10. It's great that any airmen are honored. But, have been watching this story saturate UK news for days and there has been no explanation re why such a large ceremony for these particular crewmembers. This was 1944, thousands of airmen were being killed, and hundreds of planes crashing or shot down all over Europe. Anyone know what this particular crew did that was so extraordinary compared to all the other brave airmen who died flying over enemy occupied Europe?

  12. "...vehicle models look really good, soldier models look good, and buildings/etc look ok, but nothing looks bad." +1 I think of fun stuff like brothels and MP's showing up in jeeps to arrest drunken out of uniform soldiers... Crazy, but would add "atmosphere".
  13. Thanks. Looking forward to getting that as I forgot my flash drives holding all the other games and mods on that HD when I traveled to UK.
  14. FWIW Over the years, I downloaded everything on the Repository - except perhaps mods that were only of use in the editor for designers, and H2H scenarios (as I never had time to play H2H). So, am confident that Bootie and CMMODS IV will be able to offer a comprehensive list. (Glad you are feeling better btw!)
  15. Started watching "Lost Command" - a 50's movie about the French Algerian colonial war. Stars Anthony Quinn as a grizzled French Para Colonel captured at Dien Bien Phu and give a colonial parachute regiment to sort out the natives who are bothering the French homesteaders in Algeria. Plays very well and reminiscent of the sort of movies John Ford and John Wayne made with Muslim extremists/freedom fighters standing in for the Indians and French paras standing in for the US Cavalry - and includes corrupt civilian administration etc. Good action, and while I can't vouch for historical accuracy, interesting to see French 50's era weapons and uniforms. They even have helicopters predating their use in Vietnam. Made me think that this would be another interesting era for CM2 (or CM3). If BF ever does Korea, one might have most of the graphics for vehicles and uniforms in a French module. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algerian_War
  16. Very good. Around 5.30 there is a very brief clip of what sounds like the MG42 "BRRRRP" rather than the "RATATATAT" of the MG34.
  17. For much of the same reason I love the CMSF desert environment: sunshine, blue skies (and longer ranges) am also hoping that we'll see a CM:DAK module. Many current WW2 AFV mods could be adapted for early war. And if CM2 eventually does get to early war, then pretty much all units seen in NA will be available.
  18. I understand that CMFDR. The point that is funny is that they are trying to sell a multi-zillion dollar real world weapons platform using ARMA. The logical extension is to use ARMA as the basis for semi-autonomous AFV's. Which is a good idea. So the ARMA developers should get together with UBER or Alphabet and sell that idea themselves and cut Rafael out lol.
  19. Exactly. That's what Monkey King was asking about. I get PM's regularly from PO'd people who are fed up with certain members jumping on them when they make what seems like reasonable posts that for unknown reasons seem to irritate them. If you don't like certain posters then just put em on your IGNORE list and everyone is happy.
  20. It's the whole nonsense of using a computer game to sell a serious product to DoD's around the world that is hilarious. It's really an ad for sitting at home and playing with your tank remotely - just like with a drone. Think of the research going on re driverless vehicles combined with this. That's more where the market is than for commercial vehicles on our streets. I was in Tempe, AZ for a while and the streets were flooded with UBER self-driving cars being tested (and getting in every other human driver's way). Then UBER killed a pedestrian and they vanished from the streets.
  21. IIRC some designers said they might try and update their work to take advantage of the latest engine. This thread was started by someone asking about that is all. Can't understand why this should become such a controversial/contentious discussion... or why some folks feel the need to jump in just to be rude.
  22. LOL - good catch DerKom. I didn't even notice it was ARMA. What a con job! It would be great to see a contractor try and sell something out of StarWars hehe... Love the IED WARNING" light. AND the "IED NEUTRALIZE" button. Why didn't we do that in Iraq!?? Wish I had the resources to do a spoof contractor ad like that.
  23. Yeah... the above is how this thread started. While the rest of us have been conversing about the topic, all you have done is contribute snarky, sarcastic asides. What's wrong with you? Mummy going to kick you out of the basement?
  24. At least some of us want to play the latest version of a campaign with all the advantages of the latest engine. Why is this upsetting you so much? Calm down dude. No one is criticizing you if you want to go play CMSF1. What do you think you arecontributing to this thread?
