  1. Finally! A video that's really useful. I need these asap! Thanks...
  2. That's how I remember it as well. But, re Howler's post, thanks to patches, a squad now uses 3 charges??!!
  3. Yes, that's what I recall as well. Thanks for the clarification. What I also liked about CM1 was that sound contacts were not accurate the way that they are in CM2. You could blast away at a sound contact in CM1 and miss by many meters. It took me some time to realize that if you shoot at an enemy sound contact in CM2 it's highly likely you can suppress or do damage. That seemed less realistic than the way it was implemented in CM1. But, then again, perhaps in RL, sound contacts are actually accurate(??)
  4. IIRC it's the same game mechanism. You'd have to go to the previous turn to see if the charge is still there. Once a turn starts grenades and charges are used and one can't see them being used when one rewinds to the start. A related tactic is that one should split squads with charges as a full squad may use 2 charges when ordered to breach.
  5. +1 It's great when designers include vehicles that have much lower ammo load-outs. But, it is a pain on set-up to dismount snipers or Red squads and remount (often having to split em first) just to get 100-200 rounds of ammo purely for the sniper rifles. Same for smaller teams of 2-3 men eg HQ's, AT, AA etc. Designers can also provide transports that have less than 100% ammo. (They may then need to provide more transports so that there is enuff ammo for the other full size squads that do require 500+ rounds.) eg: MOS did that in his superb Tactical Ops Center scenario. But, most designers either don't know they can do that or can't be bothered.
  6. This simply simulates the trooper being in a "really bad mood" - one of the new features introduced by the recent patch. Haven't you ever felt that way? (heh). What is interested re the chat about friendly fire on the other thread - is that there appears to have been no effect on any friendlies (is that correct?).
  7. FWIW: It's been a while now, but am pretty sure I also recall incidents of friendly fire at night in CM1. Not sure I recall seeing that in CM2. One does get friendly fire when an enemy appears close to a friendly and is fired upon. Friendlies are easily suppressed in this situation by any fire. But, I thought that required 50 cal or larger to actually cause casualties. It's news (to me at least) that smaller than 50 cal can cause a friendly casualty - unless there is this "ricochet feature" mentioned earlier. But, have never experienced (or perhaps never noticed?) that phenomenon in the tens of thousands of hours I have player CM2.
  8. Yes, this is what I understand as well.
  9. Actually, after much time fiddling around tweaking the nVidia settings on my old Samsung monitor and old laptop I found that I could have gotten 2560x1440 on that system and not bothered with another 27". So, now I have my new machine and monitor giving me the same. The new machine is much more powerful. Looking at both monitors side by side I think the new monitor gives a little better color and maybe a smaller pixel size so a little better acuity. But, hardly noticeable. Tweaking the nVidia settings is what makes most difference. And to scale the onscreen images to have the correct dimensions takes a lot of time and error. But, now I can get Grigsby's WITPAE run at 2560x1440 which I never knew it could. Wondering if one can get CM1 to run with correct dimensions.
  10. That devastating humiliation is probably what drove him to be a genius!
  11. A smiley looks like this: Mine was: Note the wink... Don't worry about it. Probably a cultural thing.
  12. Same here. I very much enjoyed Combatintman's scenarios as they certainly based closely on RL. However, they are constrained by the RL events that he is simulating. MOS's open-ended fictional scenarios like Tactical Ops Center and Coup d'Etat are more satisfying cos they are not constrained and one has so many more decisions/choices to make. That also makes MOS's scenarios more replayable.
  13. I like the theory that happy people don't accomplish much - why should they - they are happy with the way things are. ie: The world is moved forwards/changed by the disaffected folks with bad childhoods who have an axe to grind/chip on their shoulder/something to prove. NB: PR often presents such people as happy, but if one digs into their BG, there's usually something dark.
  14. That's pretty much been done when I sent him a HD packed with everything that has ever been produced for CM2. However, it's a huge amount of work for him, so will have to be patient for everything to be available on CMMODS IV.
  15. To you and all my fans who have been concerned it's been an "exciting" couple of months - taking care of elderly relative who turned 100 and then fell and in hospital, and at the same time basically moving house 4 times with the final move from US to UK (for a period). Getting back into the swing of things finally...
  16. Good articles all. Re listing for sound this works well in CM2 as (IIRC) the sound contact gives an accurate idea of the location. When CM2 came out this took me a long time to get used to as in CM1, a sound contact gave only a vague idea of location. Not sure if this is an example of things being less realistic in CM2 or if in RL, sound contacts do in fact provide a more accurate idea of the location than they had been in CM1.
  17. Thanks for the responses. I ended up getting an HP Z27n G2 27-Inch Display (2560x1440) I based my decision on factors like pixel pitch, consumer reviews (from a couple of sources) re reliability and color, warranty, and finally price. My travel laptop has a GTX 980M vidcard which should be able to handle 4K UHD easily. But, I thought that 4K was overkill for a 27" monitor and for CM and the other apps I run. And I am a bit suspicious that 4K monitors seem relatively cheap compared to even 1920x1200. So, I wonder about the quality of most of the current crop of 4K monitors.
  18. Seeing them side by side, Hitler's painting look quite good. Wonder which artist people would prefer to have displayed in their home? Maybe we should do a survey?
  19. Would be very interested in an answer to that question. I was planning on getting a new system and 4K when I got back to US. I currently have 2560x1440 or x1600 (I forget which) back at HQ and CM2 runs fine on that. IIRC was reading posts some time ago by at least one player who claimed he was using 4K monitor to play CM2, so I assumed that was ok.
