PIATpunk got a reaction from Ultradave in CM Battle for Normandy v4.03 patch has been released
yes happy to report that this first scenario which started all the wailing and gnashing of teeth back in the day, is now behaving as expected - with the Boche staying Boche rather than Turning Japanese.
Yoicks, and away!

PIATpunk reacted to mjkerner in Hey Elvis, Buddy Holly's got nuttin' on you!
I know, I know, wrong Elvis. But still, it is my humble yet (I'm sure you'll agree) expert opinion that you are the perfect voice of, and face for, BFC. Seriously! You have great communication skills dealing this somewhat, at times, hinky crowd.
Just a shout out appropo of nothing, except maybe this alcoholic beverage I'm holding.

PIATpunk reacted to Warts 'n' all in CM Battle for Normandy v4.03 patch has been released
Tried a few battles and the opening mission of The Scottish Corridor for a test. So far our old friend the hedgerow gap charge has failed to put in an appearance. Units are cowering, regaining their composure and then resuming the fight. Once I've finished my current RT campaign I'll be getting back to Normandy. Exits stage right singing "Oliver's Army" badly -->

PIATpunk reacted to RockinHarry in CM Battle for Normandy v4.03 patch has been released
just made 3 test runs in a particular mission of mine and (concrete) pillboxes vulnerable from mortar rounds penetrating straight to the interior seems gone now. 😎 There´s some occasional lightly wounded from near misses, but I treat that as realistic (more or less). Got to check evade behavior next (CMBN & CMFB).

That's one I specifically kept looking at in testing, and without giving spoilers away, the issues were on the right, and with a German AT gun. Everyone behaves as you would expect now. Another good test is "A Pleasantly Shaded Wood" Play as the Germans and pay attention to the behavior of the troops in the sunken road. They used to panic out into the field when fired on from across the field. Now they will, at worst, drop back into the sunken road and regroup, or they will just cower in place.
It works in other titles as well, just that the original problem was much more prominent in BN.

PIATpunk reacted to theforger in Roadsign Request for Rollbahn D
If anyone of the brilliant modders has anytime to help me out, it would be much appreciated.
I'm building a campaign Rollbahn D. I've six battles designed and tested atm. The plan is to take it thru at least to Targnon, maybe thru to the 24th.

Stormin Stavelot
One of my issues is around RoadSigns, would love to have accurate signs for roads / restaurants / hotels / Stavelot Cinema for added realism.
If anyone with the tech ability could spare the time?

PIATpunk got a reaction from Holdit in is this the hedgrow bug v4????
the problem here is that the behaviour ruins a decent fight against the "AI" and suspension of disbelief is cancelled at that point when the enemy are gladly rushing towards you. And you can't issue orders to the "ai"
I spotted the bug within 30 minutes of playing the patch release back in the day (and reported with saves etc)
The only official Battlefront employees posting here have been happy to spend plenty of time espousing their beliefs regarding current military/political conflagrations or posting AARs about future modules requiring undying devotion to purchase; but FFS it's about time they started talking about what the dev is doing ( as he won't post here) on what he has done regarding a game breaking issue - I have spent fricking HUNDREDS of frickin dollars on investing in a system I expected would give me a fair fight (let alone time spent). And before the apologists butt in, I am specifically talking CMBN; although the behaviour can be observed in other modules.
Rant not nearly over.
TL;DR: talk to your customers (repeatedly) about their pain points or expect less income. Or - declare that the residential support is useful but not as useful as the military dollar.
Man. This is like Cleese hating the Commies (and then told it's time for tea).

I know that BF are set on not releasing public betas, but this previous patch could certainly have done with wider testing and would have prevented posting of old python skits.

More details about the the fix and my personal experiences playing with the TacAI changes in an urban battle can be found in my post last month over in the Fire and Rubble DAR thread. (25th of June) Just in case there are any people here that aren't as interested in the Ost front and may not have seen it. But yes, +1 to Cpt. Miller's post. It's looking good people.

The bug has been patched and fix. The patches are being tested now to ensure nothing else is broken.
As one of the original people who pointed out the 4.0 HE bug (anyone remember the video?) I know that it can be frustrating waiting for a patch. But, I also know that the bug is 100% fixed, having played the patch that addresses the issues. The bug is squashed, and the patch is coming.

PIATpunk reacted to Thewood1 in is this the hedgrow bug v4????
Part of the issue isn't the bugs per se. Its the length of time to get patches out to fix bugs. BFC has gone into the mode of mostly not releasing fixes unless its with a new module. That means you can wait easily a year or more to get something significant fixed. No one would taking about these issues if we got some kind of quarterly patch to clean up stuff that gets found.

PIATpunk reacted to Ithikial_AU in Fire and Rubble DAR: BFCElvis vs Ithikial_AU - German Side
I've got permission from BFCElvis to post about something a little to the side of this content.
Fixing the Hedgerow Bug
It's perhaps most prevalent in CMBN given the abundance of hedgerow maps/scenarios but applies across all titles for infantry behind hard cover. You may have noticed my Green troops in this battle have not been running away or into the streets towards the enemy during these firefights with the Soviet infantry.
This whole DAR has been using a version of the F&R beta that includes some tweaks to the TacAI to address infantry bolting from cover when coming under small arms fire. Infantry that come under small arms fire are more likely to seek cover and 'cower' rather than displace, even when pinned/rattled. Infantry are more likely to bolt when under attack from high explosives... (which let's face it makes sense. )
The changes I've noticed:
- It becomes very hard to dislodge infantry already set up in a building or behind a wall. Even when you lose LOS/LOF there's a good chance your opponent is still there. (I've joked it's going to take naval shells to dislodge Veteran troops).
- Getting the jump on the enemy while they are moving / before they are set up and ready to seek cover still causes morale to collapse very quickly. Case in point: like when most of my Pioneer platoon evaporated under SMG fire within 30 seconds.
- Infantry taking persistent casualties will still suffer morale damage over the long term. Like my Volkssturm surrendering after a solid five minutes of constant rifle fire back and forth.
- Expect longer drawn out firefights in urban and hedgerow maps. That also means watching those ammo counters more closely.
- High explosive and flame options just became a lot more valuable in urban combat. Close quarter AVRE or M12 GMC anyone?
Still being tested and subject to change but there are positive signs among the beta testers so far.
All for now.

Hasn’t all gone my way. The burning hulks on the right skyline are several SPW that charged into an anti-tank gun ambush set by my canny oppo.
