  1. Sad news and I hope that Ukraine can surprise everyone and stave off any foreign force that comes uninvited into their country.
  2. Thanks for the update Haiduk. Your update gives us detail not seen in the general news and is very worrying. Let's hope the often repeated words "Russia will not invade Ukraine" from Putins henchmen is true.
  3. Good idea to keep this in the thread linked to above.
  4. Maybe invest in a VPN? Helps me watch BBC while travelling.
  5. I have used both and now mainly use TTS. The key difference is the ability to create and use 3D models in TTS, so it provides better immersion and looking games. If you are just looking to play 2 player board games Vassal is OK. If you want multiple players at same table then TTS is the one to use. It has grown in use due to lock downs and has a massive catalogue of user generated games. We'll worth getting the hang of it and it's quirky interface. I used it to finish off a Gloomhaven campaign that Covid stopped us from meeting FtF.
  6. Yes the backend seems to be automated to allow easier tournament management and for displaying scores / rankings. The founders of Slitherine used to (and still do) play a lot of tournaments from WRG rules to games today. They are passionate about wargames from table top days and this I think is the reason they have invested time in an inbuilt tournament system. IMO it is actually a smart business move as it keeps people wanting to play and to play in the FOG2 tournaments you need to keep buying the DLC's.
  7. This might help, or not... I am currently enjoying FOG2 and have played in two Slitherine run tournaments using the system. It allows the tourney organiser to create a scenario and map that everyone plays. These have been played both ways so you and your opponent plays two games each person the two different sides. You sign up for the tourney via a Slitherine portal and when the games start you are randomly assigned an opponent. Everyone in the tourney is playing on exact same map and force choices. You choose how and what to buy within the constraints of the points available. The number of rounds can vary (set by organiser) after round one points are tallied and displayed on a Web page showing ranking. Next round a new set of forces / map and you play the opponent with a similar score, Swiss style. Rinse and repeat until final round and someone is crowned the winner. Looks automated capturing the results and ranking / pairing players. If I get time later on my PC I will post some screenshots.
  8. Woot... Imo not a great video of pbem++++ but will do to help explain somewhat about it... Ohhh I wonder who Elvis is? Lol I guess he spends more time playing games and posting it on YouTube than knowing who's who...
  9. From what I have read this might be an upgrade to avoid as older PC might not be able to handle it. I will stick with 10 until I am forced to migrate.
  10. My memory of the barracks was my only visit to play in a wargame at the club there. A fun game with multiple players aside. I will see if I have any photos. Everything changes...
  11. Hope you enjoyed it, decent turn out by the looks. You can see the show on YouTube. The Japanese HaGo is worth a look as never seen a runner.
  12. Well looks like it is just down to peaceful protests to oust the Taliban forces, I am sure that will work out well for those brave folk holding banners... What a sad story for those left...
  13. BTW for those not subscribed to Mark Felton he has a good quick overview on former Afghan army Interesting watch for me...
  14. BBC earlier had title saying it was going against them, headline now changed to more neutral tone. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-58443679 They are under severe pressure.
  15. I would not want to work in that office, a bit too much pressure to perform.
  16. BTW the British REME built that Panther after the end of WW2, or supervised the Germans doing the real work. Mark Felton just released a video about the "British" built Panthers
  17. Integration is never straightforward or easy...
  18. BTW thanks for the first hand accounts always useful to read, of course it is just one person's perception so has to be weighed with other sources before a model is created and maybe tweaked... One of the many things I love about this site is these 1st hand accounts. I would love to hear more about the Warsaw Pact POV and perhaps those from East Germany or former Soviet Bloc countries will pop by to explain about the Saggers crap points? If they ever got to test fire them?
  19. I can just imagine the quartermaster when the #hit hits the fan and the Russian's invade saying don't issue those old munitions as they are past their best before date... Just sayin....
  20. You can rest assured that everything is crappy as humans and organisations are involved. The beauty with freedom is that we stand a chance of highlighting the crap to have a better chance of it being slightly less crap than those that can not talk about how crap their stuff is.
  21. Btw those be Oranges when the OP is talking Apples which is pretty relevant to actual game play....
  22. The clip you posted is not working for me so still not seen any firing? There was acknowledgement that there was military test firing away from the ship, but that could be obfuscation by the British?
  23. Another observation is that the server saves the final turn of a game so you can review, but it seems that after a period of time this is deleted, so you lose your history of who you played and the final turn is deleted to save server space I guess. The automated league / tournament system works well and shows folks progress as turns are uploaded. https://www.slitherine.com/tournaments/scores/604
