  1. I saw reports yesterday that they were arming civilians with AK's I am not sure if that will do more harm than good if true.
  2. Can you two take this outside of the thread? Please....
  3. It's a tough thing to plan to destroy your own infrastructure, I am guessing they decided it is better to have it in place. In hindsight they might regret that choice?
  4. @John Kettler and others this thread is not a place for that discussion. I humbly suggest that this thread be kept free of such discussion so we can just focus on what is happening now in Ukraine. You want to talk about those issues fire up another thread and good luck in keeping it unlocked!!!
  5. Thanks Elvis for that appropriate response and approach to keep this open, I sincerely appreciate the team keeping this open.
  6. Didn't take long... The Alt Right mob in town. This thread is about Russian invasion of Ukraine any chance of keeping it that way?
  7. They don't have to retake it as be able to bring the right weapons to bear on the runway. The only way this is going to bring Putin down is with the deaths of Russian service personnel. I am truly saddened that we are hoping Ukraine will inflict the maximum damage on the Russian forces, yet those that put them in harms way will have hot meals and vodka in their dachas tonight, may hell truly exist and be visited upon the Dick"tator who has brought this upon the innocent.
  8. Haiduk Stay safe my anger and heart is with you and the Ukraine. I will be looking at ways I can offer help to aid charities that Ukraine will no doubt need. Not much I know but I want you to know that there are people who care.
  9. Depends it takes two to fight... Ukraine now has a choice to make, how many people to lose? They wisely did not fight back when Crimea was taken by the little green men. The decision now is to is it worth it to fight? Easy for us armchair generals to say "fight to the last person" when we can safely sleep in our beds tonight...
  10. Yep, the ball is with them, all we can do is see what they do with it. As for Ukraine getting militarily stronger, sure they can and it will increase any price in blood and tears for anyone attacking them, but that is already a high price today, which a wise man would not risk paying unless he really wanted land. In the past there have been such men but it ended badly for them.
  11. For a country to invade and control another the loss in life and continued economic cost would be beyond most countries ability, especially if the local population of the invaded country does not want you there. If you have the ability to install a puppet government and the majority of the locals do nothing at best you have a continued drip drip of an armed insurrection guerrilla war to deal with. This will still entail too much of a cost. If you have some specific aims like getting water to an important military base then you might make some limited land grabs to provide that vital resource. As for a no fly zone that is already in place just not for the good guys. Think seriously on how you enforce a no fly zone....
  12. Yes if Ukraine wanted to try and take them back. The reality is that Ukraine was and is not in anyway capable of taking back their land vs the full might of Russia. Especially now with all the Russian troops on their borders. All Putin is doing is a bit of theatre and solidifying what was in reality the situation already.
  13. My prediction will no doubt come true, the usual suspects get a decent thread closed with utter bull@hit. Pathetic
  14. Let's hope the troops are truly heading home and no more lives ruined by another world "dick"tator.
  15. The usual suspects trying to derail a thread with whatsaboutism, name calling, false equivalency statements to side track the main issue. How about addressing the title of the thread a give us an insight on what you think Putin is trying to achieve? Personally I think he is creating a context to annex more of Ukraine to solve the water crisis in Crimea and perhaps even get regime change, but I think he has overlooked the downside and is in a corner which he is struggling to get out of. Even geniuses make mistakes.
  16. Sad news and I hope that Ukraine can surprise everyone and stave off any foreign force that comes uninvited into their country.
  17. Thanks for the update Haiduk. Your update gives us detail not seen in the general news and is very worrying. Let's hope the often repeated words "Russia will not invade Ukraine" from Putins henchmen is true.
  18. Good idea to keep this in the thread linked to above.
  19. Maybe invest in a VPN? Helps me watch BBC while travelling.
  20. I have used both and now mainly use TTS. The key difference is the ability to create and use 3D models in TTS, so it provides better immersion and looking games. If you are just looking to play 2 player board games Vassal is OK. If you want multiple players at same table then TTS is the one to use. It has grown in use due to lock downs and has a massive catalogue of user generated games. We'll worth getting the hang of it and it's quirky interface. I used it to finish off a Gloomhaven campaign that Covid stopped us from meeting FtF.
  21. Yes the backend seems to be automated to allow easier tournament management and for displaying scores / rankings. The founders of Slitherine used to (and still do) play a lot of tournaments from WRG rules to games today. They are passionate about wargames from table top days and this I think is the reason they have invested time in an inbuilt tournament system. IMO it is actually a smart business move as it keeps people wanting to play and to play in the FOG2 tournaments you need to keep buying the DLC's.
