  1. I too like others think the lack of infantry will hurt Bil. Yes if his tanks can survive they can have a go at destroying them, but once you have the infantry in buildings away from the edges of the village then it gets a lot harder as you then risk your vehicles to hand held AT. The Capt seems to be prepared to walk infantry spread out down to the village? I am looking forward to learning about the effects of DPICM on armour and that will only work if you can get it on target, often easier said than done. My first understanding of this period of conflict was playing in the 80's with micro armour and using the WRG rules on table top. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wargames_Research_Group And just recently I played World at War Storming the Gap 85 https://store.lnlpublishing.com/world-at-war-85-series This was being taught on TTS and allowed me to play the game with the designer. Excellent Table Top game and reminded me how the first M1 was no super tank as my tanks got taken out.... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2141595623 Really glad that times have changed and this period has now become fashionable and hence a market for folk to spend money on. I think it is in part down to folk like me who were kids in that age, computer literate and with disposable income to relive their childhoods. Just seeing the number of people saying how they served in Germany and are up for this shows the demand I think (hope)...
  2. OK to start things off lets have a wager on who folk think will win. I am thinking at the moment The Capt as he has numbers and quality, Bil is going to have to work very hard to take out the Soviet tanks and I think the quality will just edge it. I don't think The Capt will fall into a X fire trap so easily...
  3. Just thought it might be useful to have a thread where folk can talk about the AAR but without Bil or The Capt peeking? I enjoyed the discussion in Bil's thread about the tactics and other items that were perhaps better suited to it's own discussion. I have some questions which I will post later as off to enjoy the sun and get my daily walk in Lockdown.... Just Pre-Ordered the game so really looking forward to this title...
  4. Gents I am really interested in understanding the disparity between the forces but perhaps a thread of it's own? Just my 2p YMMV..
  5. 2021 is starting to look good, kudos to the whole team and I am looking forward to the new title. Watching the AAR with interest.
  6. Thanks that makes sense. As the fulfillment centre was in Ireland the UK customers paid what was due in Ireland. Now because of Brexit the UK want the VAT tax money paid to them as we are no longer governed by EU rules. The Brexit deal is perhaps the first ever trade treaty to impose friction rather than remove barriers to trade. I am thankful we did get some sort of a deal done, as we would have seen some serious "teething" issues. BTW UK companies are being told to create European operations to smooth "teething" problems and try and overcome the new frictions. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55786974 Always winners and lossers from any change. I wonder if European traders will be setting up shop in the UK or just not bother? The bottom line is GDP equates to taxes and money the Govt can spend on schools or say the NHS. More friction between our biggest trading partner is not good for our GDP. Maybe America will save us? P.s I had to do some double checks, and I am glad Frosthaven is coming from a UK distribution centre and I should no get any unexpected charges...
  7. This might interest those with a Normandy interest... https://www.soldiersofshropshire.co.uk/events/ (Virtual) Lecture Series 2021: “75 Years On – Shropshire Soldiers on D-Day” – David Thornycroft, 29th January 2021, 7 – 8pm UK Time https://www.soldiersofshropshire.co.uk/events/?event=EVENT606167 Not sure if there is a ticket limit but let's give the guys some support... P.s. No UK VAT or taxes have to be paid to take part.. (All from Europe and the World Welcome...)
  8. Further evidence of "taking back control" https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55734277 Seems like there will be lots of goods being returned. Of course the liars in charge are saying these are all just teething problems. Project Reality...
  9. Alan I have seen the reports from SA hope you are keeping away from the enforcers and staying safe. It could always be better, or indeed worse... Maybe we should set our VPN to use SA as a purchase point...
  10. This might explain the new rules? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55530721 The joys of a democratic process undermined by foreign interference, lies and a populist right wing liar whose simplifying message is broken down into 3 word sound bites used to emote feelings of a lost world.... The consequences are now being felt as these teething problems are being highlighted. Project reality... It could be worse?
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORTP3a7fErM&feature=youtu.be Interesting comments made that the then Soviet leader was thinking back in the 60's that tanks were becoming redundant and stopped all heavy tank development. I guess this is a topic that will keep popping up as technology changes. BTW if you have not seen these Tank Chats from the Museum they are well worth the watch and subscribe to help keep them going during these tough times.
  12. History repeats itself again and again because humans are basically the same throughout History. The same motivation and desires just re-spun with different words. The technology changes but humans remain the constant.
  13. Bear in mind that not all of those scenarios will have been designed for HtH play. Solo play requires different design choices to H2H. So you or your opposition will have to get used to the imbalance. Perhaps get the stronger player to take the weaker side.
  14. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-54301097 Sorry to just read this, youngsters with their life ahead of them.
  15. Saw 2 B52's heading home as I was working in the garden, lovely clear day this afternoon very good view, pity I didn't get a snap of them. Wonder where they had been today... Still quite in UK news about the increased flights, but Covid cases are soaring and economy diving, Brexit no deal likely and I guess America election more news worthy.
  16. Nice video, if folk are annoyed by my tongue in cheek comments I will delete them. I had not realised UK paras were in Ukraine so I am finding the thread useful. Not seen any BBC coverage yet, but other "news" is hogging the bandwidth. Thanks Haiduk for the info...
  17. Well that explains why we have seen those flying around here training. I guess what would a Republican presidency be without a war. I wonder how he will square it with his Russian pals. If life was not boring enough for folk let's have a military crisis to add to the excitement!
  18. They flew over our house, wondered where they were going... Nice to send some friends a bit of support, I guess we will see more...
  19. A saying from the UK is that "Possession is 9/10ths of the law" I wonder how long that will last based upon past performance.
  20. Let's hope it rains a LOT... Enough people have died for this venture and others lost homes and been hurt for the land grab. More interesting times to come no doubt.
  21. Just a cultural difference between nations, I wouldn't take offence. You meant well. I spent time being educated at an American High school and while I had a great time it was a real eye opener on how different the American patriotism level is compared to the UK. For example standing up every morning being "brainwashed"(btw me being cheeky) going ra ra for the flag was very alien was just part of how kids are indoctrinated. I can see the reasons for it as America has to meld different folks into citizens. The love from America towards the UK is not really reciprocated and our desire for recognition is very different to the American approach. The UK military is deeply grounded and having an American actor say how great they are will be deemed a be a bit annoying.
