If you are asking about the patch, that is something only BF can address.  If you are asking about the campaigns, it is simply effort.  Campaigns are generally done by the testers.  Campaigns in general are always a lot of work requiring a lot of time, in this case it is additional work as in light of the changes from CMSF to CMSF2 some of the specific scenarios have to be completely revamped etc.  In short everyone is really busy. Really really busy. CMSF campaigns to do, patch testing, modules with their testing and scenario/campaign creation.  I know folks feel like they haven't seen new material in a bit.  Personally I think what will happen is we'll hit a sudden point where all this stuff gets released in pretty close time frames then folks will complain about which they should look at first.  when it rains....

I know nothing of how they're actually used, but would that be done in combat?  (The behavior of the crew up top suggests that they're not worried about coming under fire.)
Slowly crawling through a wall like like (or, more likely, pushing it down into a rubble pile and then backing away for the dismounts to clamber over) seems like a good way to get RPG'd by whoever is on the other side.
In any case, yeah, CM doesn't yet model all potential vehicle behavior, most especially vehicles that might be used to clear mines and breach walls.

Just launched CMSF2 and it felt uneasy, something was missing you know... then I realized there was some text describing me what my guys were doing, text!
So yeah, just had to do it. This mod should be an option in game.
Thank you @Marco Bergman, thank you @Vinnart you both are legends.

All praise to Vin for he is a wonderful saviour.  This is probably the most used/useful mod in all CM2 games.  I thought Vin had disappeared into that great darkness that eventually swallows all the famed modders.  So, very happy he crawled out of his cave to give us this blessing.
(And sorry that I often get Vin confused with Vein - another great modder who is where?)

Original CMBN Aris' Bedford, CCKW, Cromwell, Opel Blitz, Sdkfz 250 (Alt) have been uploaded to CMMODSIII, thanks to @Holman who preserved the files all these years and mailed them.
    CMMODs III - CM:BN VEHICLES
    PS :
M8 Greyhound files already on CMMODSIII have been completed thanks to @Erwin!

Please note though that it appears it's one variant (C30 "Colbert") that comes along the base texture. While there are 3 other texture files, they are identical (both visually and binary), therefore I've not included them.

Thank you everyone involved, not the least @Bootie for making CMMODSIII works and @GreenAsJade for hosting it.

I concur, wholeheartedly! The modmakers are an integral part of the Combat Mission series and have been
since the original CM came out 18 years ago. Their selfless contributions to the CM community over almost
two decades have made a tremendous positive impact on my enjoyment of CM. Bless them one and all!
    Best regards, Odd

Just wanted to thank the makers of some of these awesome mods. I put a WWII sound effect miod in CMFB and it is fantastic! The Garands sound like a hefty rifle, and you get the ping as well. Every sound improved; 155mm arty was deep, .50 cal had a dropped a couple of bass layers too. Wow!!
Well done. I did the tracer round as well. Also did one of the terrain mods . The cumulative effect is such that really changes how the game .
A round of applause to therein creators of the aforementioned, well received mods

This is where those .50 cals and grenade launchers on your APCs are so helpful.
Pouring 30 seconds of such fire into a building can heavily suppress everyone looking your way, even better if you can target different floors.

Often a simple Hunt will give the enemy the opportunity to gun down your troops as they enter the doorway.  The rest will hug the ground outside and be easy prey.
I haven't downloaded the new demo, but in my view the best CMx2 way to enter a building known or suspected of containing enemies is to Fast/Quick move to the outside wall.  At that waypoint, give a 10 or 20 second pause along with a Area Target order aimed inside the building.  Then set a Quick waypoint into the building itself, applying a new Facing order (which will serve as a cease fire, although units will of course fire on their own if they spot more enemies).
This will have the effect of rushing the building exterior and then pouring fire (and, crucially, hand grenades) inside through windows and doors before entering.  It's even better if you can time it so that another squad or team provides suppressing fire up to about 5 or 10 seconds before your entry team arrives at the outside wall.
Obviously this method is expensive in terms of ammo and grenades, but it's the safest way to get inside.  You have decide whether the expense is worth it.

Here it is folks.. the time has arrived for the CMSF2 BETA AAR.  I will be adding to this thread later today,, but wanted to get the thread started.
My opponent?  My nemesis from the CMFB  BETA AAR, Baneman ,agreed to a rematch.  I really do owe him a more thoughtful game than I gave him the last time.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with that game, Baneman beat me rather soundly.  Hope that doesn't happen again!
This game is well under way, we have completed 16 minutes of action, so there are a lot of turns to come in relatively quick succession and the Blood Board™ is filling rather alarmingly.
For those of you who were following my "Lesson in Defense" AAR in the CMBN forum.. sorry about not updating that thread for a while, but I can really only do one of these at a time, and this one takes priority.,  Once I started this game it took up my full attention.
    More anon.  Bil

I've made the point several times, but for me the 4.0 issue is experienced troops leaving cover and running when (in previous engines) they would instead briefly cower, simulating just keeping their heads down.
I've had fresh elite and crack British paras run out of heavy buildings when they came under rifle or very distant MG fire for less than a minute.  Something has definitely changed.

The enhanced brightness doesn't increase detection distance or anything else.  It's purely cosmetic.  It merely helps the player better see what your troops have already seen.

Jeeps were known for being able to go anywhere.  Do they not deserve their reputation?

And of course as players we don't have to worry about long-term damage or wear-and-tear on our vehicles--they only have to last as long as the scenario.

Rifle fire tends to come in volleys.  I can usually count on my TC's to ignore the first volley but button up at the second or third.  Closer-ranged fire seems to alarm them more than long-ranged fire does.  MG fire obviously doesn't come in volleys, but it usually spooks a TC quickly.

This seems realistic enough for me.  If I could tweak it, I'm not sure what choice I would make that would improve every likely circumstance.

Holman reacted to dragonwynn in CMBS Campaign: The Eagle and the Bear
The Eagle and the Bear is a narrative hypothetical campaign of a clash between NATO and Russian forces in the small Baltic country of Latvia. It is a campaign of modern war set in a "could happen" situation where you command a  U.S. Combat Brigade through a 7 day struggle for control of the Baltics.

It is designed to be played from the blue side only. Some scenarios are large so it may be slow load times on some systems.

It features 11 scenarios, 9 which are playable based on the outcomes of specific battles. I've tried to include a fair number of combat situations from small infantry engagements, airlift operations, urban battles as well as large sprawling armor engagements.

You take the role of Colonel Mack Barnes, commanding officer of the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team and your mission is to successfully take the brigade as well as other NATO forces through 7 days of modern combat. Below is a list of the scenarios and the campaign path:

    Battle 1- Never Cry Wolf
    (Win- The Water Dogs
    (Lose- Campaign Over)

    Battle 2- The Water Dogs
    (Win- The Crossroads of Naudaskalns
    (Lose- Campaign Over)

    Battle 3- Crossroads at Naudaskalns
    (Win- FOB Lancer
    (Lose- Campaign Over)

    Battle 4- FOB Lancer
    (Win - Hill 289.7)
(Lose- The Bear at the Gates)

    Battle 5- Hill 289.7
    (Win- Operation Hammer)
    (Lose- The Siege of Balvi)

Battle 6- The Bear at the Gates
    (Win- Operation Hammer)
    (Lose- Campaign Over)

Battle 7- The Siege of Balvi
    (Win - Operation Eagle Strike
    (Lose- Campaign Over)

    Battle 8- Operation Hammer
    (Win- Turning the Tide)
    (Lose- Campaign Over)

    Battle 9- Operation Eagle Strike
    (Win- The Battle of Krievkalns)
    (Lose- Campaign Over)

Battle 10 - Turning the Tide
    (Win- The Battle of Krievkalns)
    (Lose- Campaign Over)

Battle 11- The Battle of Krievkalns
    (Win - Victorious)
    (Lose - Defeated)

Here is a list of the combatants involved:

    NATO:

    Latvian 1st Infantry Brigade
    Latvian 2nd Infantry Brigade
    Polish 2nd Mechanized Battalion
    Polish 1st Tank Battalion
    Polish 6th Airborne Brigade
    1st Stryker Combat Brigade Team
    1st Calvary Regiment
3rd Armored Combat Brigade Team (Core Unit)

    Soviet 20th Guards Army:

    9th Guards Motor Rifle Brigade
    5th Guards Motor rifle Brigade
    27th Guards Motor Rifle Brigade
    16th Spetsnaz Brigade
    56th Airborne Brigade
    100th Reconnaissance Brigade
    6th Guards Tank Brigade
    4th Guards Tank Brigade
    1st Tank Brigade

(Special Note: Due to game limitations the Latvian forces were taken from the stock Ukrainian forces with standard camouflage. The Polish forces are Ukrainian forces with digital camouflage to distinguish them differently.

The Latvian military primarily uses western equipment so they have been equipped with humvee's mostly. However I used MT-LBM's as their APC's. The Poles have the KTO-Wolverine APC which I used BTR-4E's to simulate these as well as the PT-91 Twardy MBT which is simulated by the BM-Bulat MBT.)

There are a number of personalities besides Col. Barnes that you will meet as the campaign unfolds. Each will play a part.

As with my previous campaign I have included modtags and the needed files. However I do highly recommend Kieme's outstanding CMBS mods to get the full immersion.

I am looking for a few playtesters to check it out and help me weed out any bugs I may have overlooked. If you are interested let me know and I will send you a dropbox link to the campaign to try out.
