  1. Hahaha! Could be prophetic though! Patrick
  2. After reading the above posts I'm more confused. would be simpler to just remake cmbb/cmak for OSX period so CMC could work with needing 2 Mac's to run a campaign. Of course I doubt that'll ever see the light of day. Patrick
  3. BFC you guys are really moving quickly on all fronts. CMSAF and now CMC. Way to go! Patrick
  4. Thanks very informative info on RC vs 105 round capabilities. Always learning something new! Patrick
  5. Re. the MGS why use a hi velocity 105 for bunker busting when a 90mm rc can do the same job. More ammo, no recoil, LAV won't roll over when turrent is in the wrong position. About the only drawback is all the blast smoke from the RC. The MGS crew would never take on a MBT unless from ambush positioning than scuttling away. Patrick
  6. When it comes to deciding who wins a battle in CMSF. If the US player suffers 30% casualties in a battle would he be considered court martial material or a demotion? With the pyschological aspect of trying to limit casualties to as low as possible a commander losing x number of KIA and WIA might actually lose a battle? Patrick
  7. I believe it is but Mac gamers will have to wait a few months for the Mac version of CMSF to come out. AS you know with the new MacIntel chips to be used in future Macs are coming out BFC is wisely waiting to see how the recoding will be once the new chips are in use. Otherwise they would have coded for Tiger then re-code for the MacIntel version. Just like what happened for OS 9 and OSX. Pangea software has already re-coded some of their game titles for the new chips so if the recoding doesn't mess up the original code BFC has written for CMSF we should be getting our Mac version sooner than later? On another rambling point with MP processors looking like the wave of future chip design I should hoppe BFC will make their games native for that sort of processing as it should speed things up as far as game play and graphics? Patrick
  8. Sure hope pbem makes it into cmsf as well for the same reasons. Hopefully file sizes won't be too large as well. Patrick
  9. Yo, I found myself in the same situation as gunnergoz yesterday when I clicked onto this forum looking for CMX2 and seeing CMSF. Likewise it was disappointing to see so much disgruntlement among the members for what i think will be an excellent simulator for modern combat. I think my only real concern is that the Mac version will be months later and on what the specs will be for the game to play on a Mac. will it need a graphics card with 256mb's of video memory? How fast must the CPU be? Of course it would also be nice to havethe original cm series updated to OSX but I'm also realsitic to know that it's a low priority for BFC. The main point is that BFC is still A1 and true to their vision of making combat simulators for the thinking gamer. Patrick
  10. I know nothing about programing but wouldn't that kind of detailing put a strain on the graphics engine and slow the game down? If that's so I wouldn't put a high priority on fire in buildings. Patrick
  11. I'm sure in all the night scenario battle's I've played I've never bothered to look at the stars. And if it's raining or snowing there's nothing to look at anyway. Patrick
  12. Didn't realize the scroll wheel could do all that in other games. Billiant idea. Patrick
  13. I was watching a Discovery channel documentary the other night on Pearl Harbor and within the show they had a battle simulation of the event with 2 teams (academics vs Ret-US admiral. the difference was that in this dimulation the US had 3-4 hours prior notice, with the US fleet sailing out of the harbor. The simulator is the same used by the US War College to teach strategy and tactics. In the end the Japanese lost about 80 fighters and the US lost 3 battleships with all crew on board and had 7 damaged ships. Basically a defeat for the US as more men would have dies at sea than at Pearl. what was interesting was how angry the admiral was at the result of the simulation. His reaction was priceless and that would make for good tv viewing at least on a chnne like Discovery. Well at least if there's an audience for that type of programming. A show of that sort would also work using the Napoleonic simulator that BFG is publishing as well as CMX2. so anyone interested in writing up a programming proposal? Patrick
  14. Supposedly the new OSX for MacIntel machines will be hacked proofed so it won't run on non Apple PC's, but there's some thoughts that XP could run on the new MacIntel's side by side with OSX. That would be very interesting. It'll put Virtual PC out of business (a MS subsidiary)and if that's possible you could possibly play CMX2 on the new Mac's but using XP instead. Weird! I doubt that Apple would allow that to happen. Patrick
  15. PTO would be cool but BFC thought it would be boring overall as there wasn't any armored combat involved. Certainly not even on a armored company sized level or even platoon level for that matter. In the long run they would be right from a marketing POV as how many disks would they be able to sell. All best Patrick
  16. Don't hold your breath but BFC has already stated that the specs won't be known until they figure out what Apple will do when they revamp the Mac OS for the new Intel chip. When the change does come no one really knows how much backwards compatibility there will be with the revised OS to Macs running Power PC chips. Looking at the CM series for the Mac it was made for OS 9 and can't play on OSX. Which is a real bummer as Mac user's have to decide on which is more important the OS or CM for their computers. CAn't blame BFC as the OS 9 to OS X switch burned them. As for me if the game (worst case scenario and I'm speculating)can't play on a power PC chip of the OS) then that means we'll have to upgrade to a MacIntel box. that sucks. Patrick
  17. LOL at least we now know CMX2 will not be WWII western Europe! Haha! All best Patrick
  18. If we get a screenshot that means we'll know what era this game will be from. doubt that will happen anytime soon. Patrick
  19. I'm just speculating but re. possible Mac specs because of the impending chip changes and the revisions in the OS code to do it. It would seem that if CMx2 is in the same league as a power hungry, pixel counting game like Doom 3 then there isn't much hope for even Mac User's with a G5 2.7 machine using a top end x800 card. That being the case why would CMx2 run on a Mac at all? All best patrick
  20. Yo, I'll second that about having a text dump. I believe the majority of the players want the details especially if the scenario is using attrited troop levels or reinforced companies. All best Patrick
  21. the squads are 1 to 1 representations so all 12 men are shown but they don't act as individuals. they move as a squad. I doubt very much if BFC will allow CMX2 to be run ona console. At least they have never indicated they would do so in the past. Patrick
  22. I think having non combatants would make CMX2 more thought provoking as a game. Especially in an operation type battle where if a certain pyschological threshold is breached atrocities against civilians would transform them into partisans in future battles of a operation. That might be pretty complexto do but it would make civilians a wild card in an operation. If one side killed too many civilians than civilians would rise up and bear arms against the offending player. That would work for WWII or modern era wars. For those that wouldn't want to deal with civilians or noncombatants then the feature could be toggled off. Patrick
  23. The speculations are getting pretty wild so my 2 cents would be that we're going to see something contempoary like the 1990 Gulf War and a mideval war simulation. Why? It's a popular time period for gamer's. Also how many years have BFC been working on making this CMX engine? Plenty of time I would guess to do the research for a 1990's Gulf War simulation minus the air war aspect. As for Mideval war, why not? It would be a great way to show off the flexibility of the game engine and its capabilities. Patrick
  24. JUst to clarify the ATI dual Mac/PC PCI card question. This card is for old macs (g4's towers only) using AGP 4X or AGP8X card slots. It is not for insertion in the PCI slot. the 9600 chip in this card also isn't the greatest or the latyest chip being used for ATI's current lineup of Mac or PC video cards. It isn't capable of running Doom 3 but should be alright for CMX2. As for Os X and it's portability to whatever upcoming Intel chip Apple finally decides on (Yonah for portables) It shouldn't make that much of a difference should it? the new chips coming out will also be 64 bit processors and OS X for the most part is still using 32 bit instructions from what I understand. Maybe with the new chip coming Apple will make the entire OS X a pure 64 bit native code and if that's so wouldn't it be a given that all supporting software will also have to upgrade. Just speculating there. Patrick
  25. HI, This might sound odd but I would like to see 1. Civilian units, unarmed non-combatants that could also represent POW units for developing scenarios that could allow scenario designers to make rescue hostage/pow scenarios. This could be implemented at scenario design allowing anywhere from 1 to 6 civilian units to use in the battle and would add additional victory conditions like how many civilian/pows rescued or avoiding harming hostages in a battle. It's a vague concept but would add to the complexity of the game. If for example 50% of the civilian units are killed morale factor of civilains would be against the force that failed to protect them. Civ. could then be turned into combatants pickingup arms and fight against whichever side is losing the morale factor of the civilians. 2. when designing maps for a battle it would be nice to be able to paste the map for use in an operation battle and to expand on the map design while in the operation battle design. Hope that makes sense? Allbest Patrick
