  1. Having just submitted a couple of new reviews it just occurrred to me that if you don't score a section like briefing for example then the overall score for that scenario won't be factored in. One pet peeve for me whenever i play a scenario is when the author doesn't take the time out to write a brief on what he designed. In those situations I'll place a 1 for the brief section as a show of dissatisfaction. I know writing a brief can be more time consuming than actually designing a scenario but the brief is just as important forthe overall feel or experience for the battle to be played. I must have 4 or 5 battles and ops sitting on my HD just because I haven't taken the time to write the brief. All best Patrick
  2. Ok now that makes a lot of sense. Under those terms that seems quite reasonable. It would make the operation more realistic and more of a challenge for both players. All best Patrick
  3. I hadn't realized there was a play them as they lay attitude towards playing operations? It wouldn't seem logical to me as usually the following battle is a different time of day or night. So logically even from dawn to midday there are several hours after the end of the first battle to the next. During that time in a fluid battlefield nothing would be as it was later on. Maybe it might seem the right thing to do for some but at least not to me. All best Patrick
  4. I've had a few of my operations/battles reviewed so I feel obliged to review others that I download and play. I don't do it all the time but if the design is good or really bad I will take the time to give praise or criticism. I do get discouraged though when a design I send to the Scenario Design site doesn't get any notice. All best Patrick
  5. Whenever I've lost a battle it's due to not having a good tactical attack plan for the situation. All best Patrick
  6. Sounds intriguing but what would be the minimum cpu requirements to play a game of that flexibility and depth. It would be grand to play but I don't think I'd want to have to buy a new computer just to play a game. Even if it is something made by Battlefront. I'm just wondering how much longer we'll have to wait for CM2, period! It would be nice if they'd throw a bone out just to let the community know what's going on. All best Patrick
  7. another shameless plug. If you want a short 2 battle opperation to get a feel of the play involved try North Sword, Winter Sword, Closing the Circle or my latest "Battle of Istra". Cheers Patrick
  8. wELL i WAS EXCITED ABOUT THE THOUGHT OFTHIS GAME BUT NOW THAT ITS ONLY FOR THE WINDOWS PLATFORM i'M NOT TOO KEEN ABOUT IT. Any chance it'll be ported to the MAC OS 9 or X? all best Patrick
  9. I would have sent 1 or 2 halftracks out to cross the bridge and have the rest hang back for overwatch and covering fire. All best Patrick
  10. Ya I've tried that out for a kick but you can also add a tank hunter squad and a light mg squad plus a platton hq minus his squads to flesh out the rifle squad so it actually looks like a real squad. It's actually not a bad way to simulate a individual squad.
  11. Yo Kingfish, Many thanks for the response. I was offline yesterday with work. Will check the sites out. All best Patrick
  12. A few months back Wild Bill came out with an article on the 1st Guards Tank Brigade and the "Battle for the Istra River", Nov. 24, 1941. After reading his article I decided to design a semi-historical battle based on his article. Does anyone have a map of the battle area? I've already done a make believe map for a river crossing and it's bloody fun fighting over the map. Now I'd like to try and recreate the actual battle using a map of that particular area. Anyone out there with map resources or leads to a good map? all best Patrick
  13. Wow Berli, That's a pity. You and Andreas andthe rest of the team there did a great job. All best Patrick
  14. If you're still looking for a player send me the operation and your game file. I've got a bit of free time to play. I can do a turn a day PBEM. All best Patrick lucero1148@netscape.net or patricklucero1148@yahoo.com
  15. just to add my 2 cents in, but I remember that scene and I'm willing to bet that wasn't a 37mm AT or a Stielgranate. I'm more inclined to say it was a 88mm rocket launcher mounted on a carriage. Don't remember the official name but its essentially the panzerschrek round fired from a wheeled launcher. The benefit being it has a longer effective range than the schrek (500 meters vs 180m). cheers Patrick
  16. Hi, Great info and thanks. Didn't realize modern rifles were that more capable. All best Patrick
  17. Are modern .50 cal. rifles better than the ATR's of WWII? Has there been any comparisons done? There's better ammunition out now compared to what was used but are there any other differences? Just curious? All best Patrick
  18. Junk Many thanks for the link! Sorry for not getting back sooner. Had a chance to see your Pacific CM Mods and that's pretty impressive stuff. I've already set up the operational battles for the CC3 maps but just need to get those briefs. Hopefully the suggestion at the wargamer forum will work for me. All best Patrick
  19. Hi, I'm working on a few operations based on the Close Combat III Russian Front maps re-created by ww2steel for CMBB. I've been trying to copythe general briefs from the game on each operation map from the game but can't get the CCIII program to open up the scenario builder. I'm using Windows XP and the game is correctly installed except for the scenario builder. Anyone have an idea on how to extract the text from the program? All best Patrick
  20. Maybe it's an experimental version of the MK IV with a 75mm L70 which never came out? Although how they would fit the gun without massive modifications to the turet design I wouldn't know. All best Patrick
  21. Sergei's idea of an auto mail review in the game would be great if BFC would want to do that. Makes it simpler for us to communicate our reviews without wasting time. Getting paid for reviews isn't such a good idea though. Patrick
  22. Alternatively one way to get around that is to start off with a weak defender and to schedule defender's reinforcement at say battle 3. this would give your attacker time to make it to say mid or past mid point of the map. Defender's reinforcement would then have to travel to meet the attacker's force. It makes for some interesting gameplay even against the AI. Versus a human opponent it'll be very challenging. all best Patrick
  23. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I don' t think you can set up reinforcements in the manner you want. Basically because ops are designed around the basis of one side advancing and capturing teritory (VL). Reinforcements are therefore entered in the original set up zone so the player can place them accordingly. Odd's of reinforcements arriving if they're low (60% or less chance of arrival)is usually dependent on how heavy your losses are. For example your reinforcements are set to arrive on battle 2 and have a 60% chance of arriving. However you fail in the first game to reach the 1st VL and suffered light losses. You probably won't get them. That's a simplistic view, but I think that's how it goes! All best Patrick
  24. Yo Mike, That's pretty complicated going by the exact CC point system for reinforcements! Totally over my head. The thing is though if in the parameters you indicate it will be a 5 battle operation that's all the battles that will be played and the reinforcements scheduled to come in after the 5th battle will never come to use asthe operation will be over. As far as I know... I've set up the forces for the Blitzkrieg op. map and am testing it out. Will email it to you in a day or 2. all best Patrick
  25. I finished the opening operation but will test it out first to see if it plays well. Then send it to you for your input and approval. One thing I noticed is that you have 7 reinforcement turns but the operation is only 5 battles long for Barbarrossa. I corrected that in my revison and reduced it to a 4 battle operation at a set 20 turns. I may switched back to your original 20 + variable setting if testing shows it needs the additional time. I've set up hypothetical forces for both sides for balanced play. whether that holds true n testing I'll have to see, but I will keep you posted on that. Again I must say you did a great job on the operational maps. It really captures the look of the original ccIII maps. All best Patrick
