  1. Welcome newbie! Ps. It's considered bad form to use all caps (aka. "shouting"). Please don't do it in your future posts! Welcome aboard!
  2. Noooo, but the beta demo was, IIRC. Anyway, thanks for answering! Please put a lill' rocket up CDV's ...er... rear armor!
  3. Yes, and the also tell the world that CM:BB is made by CDV! Not a breath about BTS... Pressing "See more by this manufactor" brings up titles like "Sudden Strike", "Cossacks" and all our favourite ... "Lula"! Just curious, how does such market agreements work? Is CDV entiteled to market CM:BB as "their" game inside their region (i.e. Western Europe), or has Amazon UK blundered here?
  4. I might very well have to! You can't order CM:BB on CDV's homepage (except for the German version), and there hasn't been any word about when it will be awailable here in Norway. I spoke to my local retailer again yesterday, and all he had heard (from his importer/distributor) was "perhaps early October" (with a rumour going around about the 2nd). Nothing certain, anyway. I've emailed CDV, but as of yet all I've received is the standard auto-generated email. The censored stuff is no big deal (although I personally find it just ridiculous). The manual would have been nice, but it's not a must. I'm a little concerned about CDV's copy protection scheme and CD-reader compability though, but I haven't heard much about it either way yet. So, come early October I might have to try and find a friendly soul in USA who can act as a middleman, if CDV should decide that Norway isn't a big enough market. ... Or I can order it from Amazon UK (see this thread) [ September 24, 2002, 06:34 AM: Message edited by: Hawk ]
  5. Yes, and there where of course no one but a few russkies and perhaps the odd German fighting there ... Oh, yes I see. There where no Americans fighting there! Oh well, to each his own! But you might be surprised about the interest for the Eastern Front, also among American customers. Cheers!
  6. Not by a long shot! However, if they make you buy "Lula - Attack by the mutant camels" as well ...
  7. Para, could we get some hot info about the editor? I'd really would like to know what's possible to do with a save-game file (i.e. when you load the end game file into the editor). Thanks for all the info you give us! I've cooled off a bit now ...
  8. Ok, so now we have it confirmed (?) that Denmark gets it September 27th, Norway October 2nd, Sweden October 10th and God knows about the rest of Europa (utside Germany of course)! It's obviously hard for CDV to ship to more than one country at a time! Oh, and it's still not possible to order the english version of CM:BB on CDV's homepage. I sure hope BTS thinks really hard about whether they'll use CDV again or not!
  9. Oh my goodness! Have BTS gone and made the modders redundant?! Naaaah!
  10. Just phoned my local retailer here up in the frozen wastelands called northern Norway. CM:BB will reach him October 2nd.
  11. Wow! Very impressive site! Best of luck on your campaign! Pal
  12. Actually, we don't fight back becuase we feel very sorry for you about that one! I mean, how many other democratic nations select their leader by lottery, and then discovers that it was rigged? One thing that does strike me as a bit odd, is that kids in USA can drive a car when they're 16, drink beer at 21 and can never have sex or swear (please note that this knowledge is based on the documentaries about USA made at a place called Hollywood, and I cannot vouch for it's accuracy).
  13. Mr. Z, do you know anything about when we can expect to see it here in Norway? Cheers!
  14. Interesting topic! Quick poll: how many of you have heard or heard about the Norwegian guy repairing his washing machine? His son recorded the ... monologue and distributed the tape. Too bad there ain't any Norwegians in CM:BB! [ September 09, 2002, 08:25 AM: Message edited by: Hawk ]
  15. I remeber the day I downloaded the CMBO beta demo. Ok, no I don't remember the day, but I remeber doing little else than playing the demo that night. Especially the first time I started it. I remeber just sitting there thinking "No way, it's not possible something can be this cool!". But it was, and it just kept getting better and better. Moving the view around, zooming in and out, following the men and vehicles around, trace the shells to the moment of killing impact. I wonder if I'll ever have that feeling because of a computer game again. CM:BB will be better and bigger in many ways, but it's "familiar ground" now. Perhaps Steve et al will once more stun me after the engine re-write. And even if they don't, they'll still be among the brightest stars on my computer-game sky!
  16. Waddyamean? Of course it's here in Norway. I've been playing it for months! Oh ... you mean as a non beta-tester .... Sorry! My pre-ordered version arrived today, and that's way up here in the artic wastes, so it's hat off for the people handling the shipping!
  17. Oh dear! I can so imagine MadMatt's face after receiving one of those....! A polar bear hug from the frozen wastes of northern Norway. * edited because I can't splell * [ July 31, 2002, 08:39 AM: Message edited by: Hawk ]
  18. ...and it's still your thread and your responsibility to calculate the average! Happy B-day, by the way!
  19. In my experience, USSR war readiness will increase even if you don't have any forces on her border. However, it will increase much faster if you put any significant number of forces there. Hawk
  20. I agree! As a beta tester I have played this game countless times and giving the Axis AI a +1/+1 usually results in a fun game. If you want a slightly tougher game, set difficulty to "Expert" (leave AI experience bonus at +1). Cheers! Hawk
  21. Yes, excellent! I've been nagging Hubert to try and get him to do the whole thing, but I have felt very lonely. At least one other wants to see this done.
  22. Have you read my beta AAR? There you can study one of my humiliating defeats in all it's gory details! I had another very interresting battle against the AI the other day. All options on, all countries random, AI +1 experience bonus and Intermediate difficulty. I played as allied. Germany took Poland on the third turn, then spent one turn redeploying before attacking Low Countries which it took in two turns. After that, I managed to defend France for roughly 6 - 8 months (don't remember excactly) using all available allied land/air forces except the fighter on Malta and corps in Gibraltar and Alexandria. When I started loosing to much there I managed to withdraw the Canadian forces, Montgomery and 4 fighters back to England. At this point Italy joind the war. However, they played only a minor part in the rest of the war (not too efficient AI there I'm afraid). A few turns later, the AI declared war on Russia (the turn before she entered the war). Germany never managed to take a single city in Russia, but I was fighting for my very life every turn, shifting forces back and forth. It was very tense and extreemly fun! Anyway, after a minor eternity, USA entered the war. I spent three turns transporting forces to coordinate D-day. France was very lightly defended, and after a successfull landing, the AI started shifting forces from the eastern front, thus giving me a little relief there. To make this short, I liberated France and Low Countries while Russia managed to push the remaining German forces out of the Motherland. After that, conquering Germany was easy. During this game I spent little on research, only gaining a level or two in industrial technology (USA and Russia) and three levels in jet fighters (England). The French fleet was all but annihilated (one BB survived), and the British Atlantic fleet was badly mauled. The parts I enjoyed most in this game was the defence of France and Russia. The former because I was able to withdraw some forces in good order and the latter because the desperation I felt when fighting a mobile defence. SC (and it's successors! Do you hear me Hubert?! ) are games I'll probably be playing for years to come, and I believe many of you will enjoy them too. Cheers!
  23. When you play as the allies against the AI, just give the Axis forces a +1 or +2 experience bonus. A +1 in unit strength isn't that much of an advantage. I don't think the average German soldier was that much better than his counterpart on the allied side. However, superior strategy from the German High Command (and not quite so superior strategy on the other side) gave Germany a good advantage in the first years of WWII. Just my 2 cents.
  24. Shhhh! Don't tell 'em! I really wanna surprise someone when the game goes live!
