  1. Now that's odd... I've played 3 or 4 QB's. Each time I had the as described above problem where the battalion HQ only had the rename option and I couldn't delete it. Am 99% sure I deleted all the directly sub-ordinate units. Reading this thread I've just tested it and I can delete the HQ as long as all the unit's reporting directly to the BHQ are gone. Can only conclude I'd attached some stuff that stopped me deleting them before. So try it again, you can delete the extra HQ's. And thanks for the tip on using backspace, much quicker. -Fenris
  2. Just dropped a medium werfer prep barrage on a French village. Boom! They leave craters, one of which a Sherman tipped into.
  3. Using flashget, from down under, I'm downloading between 500 to 700 kbps bursting up to over a meg at times. ~30% to go. Download managers make a significant difference I often find. Highly recommended. -F
  4. I had two fire missions last night land about 50 meters from where they were targeted. They were during play. The first one I ordered in the Road to Berlin scenario was a line and it worked fine. The other two where area targets and both landed well wide of the target. I actually thought they might have been from the opposition as I double checked my targeting and the spots were still there even as the tubes were firing. I think they might have been at emergency where as the first one wasn't, but I can't be 100% sure.
  5. Something by Sven Hassel? Yes I jest, in my defence you did say fiction. Edit - Guns of Normandy is indeed a juicy read. There's also View from a Foxhole or maybe is vision, I'd have to check once I get home. These a memoirs though, not fiction. Can't think of any fiction off the top of my head TBH. -F
  6. Proved wrong by the interweb, sniff, there is no emoticon that truely shows how this upsets me. I shall retire to my fortress of solitude with a pack of cheerios to contemplate my repost. ...comic shop guy leaves the front row of the convention hall, his hooded cape hiding his troubled face I tell you what, they gotta release the game soon. We all seem to be going a little bit round the bend.
  7. Simpons comic shop guy voice... Ehem, you will remember there is a scene setting shot just prior to Luke handing himself in where you can clearly see an AT-AT docked to lower left of the shuttle landing pad. It would be safe to assume that this vehicle may have been deployed in the Ewok insurrection that followed later in the movie even though there is no footage (hah! a toe cheese related pun) of said vehicle in combat. This now leads us to one of those 'it was in the threatre but is there evidence of it being in combat?' discussions. Let us to the interwebs for answers!
  8. Thread... I want to complain! First reply... Aaaah, stop hitting me. Second reply... This is getting hit over the head lessons. You want complaints, it's across the hall. Ahem, but seriously... I reckon first complaints will come in the first day. I plan on complaining about how long it takes for my pre-order to arrive and that when it doesn't I'll be at work and have to wait all day, get home, kids to bed, dinner and quality time with wife before I can install and even think of playing. I'll probably fall asleep at the keyboard before the install finishes, something else to complain about. -F
  9. Hamstertruppen mod. But more seriously it'd be awesome if some sort of ROCQ campaign thing was developed. -F
  10. I liked them. Played them more often than user created scenerioes. /emote shruggs Mainly because I could setup everything just how I liked it. It's obviously premature to judge the CMBN QB experience with no game time, I'll probably be able to basically everything how I like it still, so all this may well just be hot air (what else are we to do whilst we wait?). It is classic horses for courses though. I'm in the "it'd be really nice to have in CM2 because that's how I used to play CM1" camp but as it's been explained (quite patiently) on more than one occasion and the reasons seem perfectly valid. Fair enough it's not an option in CM2, things are different, it's a new version and we'll have lots of maps to choose from in the end anyway. It's not something that effected my pre-ordering CMBN. -F
  11. If I had enough spare cash I too would like to be a silent partner to help things along if I could. I think it's worth their time looking into it. I've been a long time player of World War 2 Online and being a small niche company CRS have had for a long time various ways for dedicated players to contribute more to the development of the game if they wish. The main one is called a builders program which involves paying lump sums up front, there are various options but I think the highest level 'builder' is something like US$1000! And yes some players do pay that. They don't have any direct say on what happens but in return the 'builders' get a lifetime subscription to the game and first look at future developments and a little more involvement in the dev process as far as canvasing for opinions etc. -F
  12. This is the one I was thinking of. The veterans play themselves and others and captured German armour makes an appearance if I remember correctly. I seem to recall seeing at least one Panther in the film. -F
  13. Added link in first post to a list of possible future CM titles I saw a while ago. @Elmar - Fair enough, I amended the first post a bit, hope it's clearer. -F
  14. Edit - in reference to the first two posts... Yes I know all that. I have been here for a while and have seen the list of what they loosely plan to produce in the future if all goes well. See the word wishlist and just post idly from there. ie what would you like to play as a CM game from WW2 irrespective of whether that's a module, game, online virtual world you can plug into your optic nerve what ever.
  15. To pass the time whist we twiddle our thumbs lets offer up our module or maybe I should say WW2 campaign wishlist... As it's apparent we're to get NW Europe, which is just fine by me, we can leave that out. So I'd like to see a Sicily with the rest of southern Italy if it could fit in, may as well, it is a wish list. Kursk 1943. A summer 1942, army group south or maybe winter, hmmm, can't decide. Have to have rail cannon and siege mortar prep fire missions in this one just for kicks. Sure it'd be only a single round but be fun to sit there waiting for where the thing was going to land Lastly a 1940 NW Europe one. Anyone else? -Fenris ps - no space lobsters, well maybe a WH40K one but that's a bit of a stretch now isn't it. Edit - here's a post that has a listing of what we might see in the future of CM http://www.battlefront.com/community/showpost.php?p=1235780&postcount=1
  16. Basically what Zatoichi said. It's all very complicated and there can be any number of annoying things that can crop up. Giving a date is a double edged sword that could and probably would bite them on the butt even more than letting us stew. It often leads to things coming out rushed or half finished if it's left to corporate types who have the deadline mentality more ingrained. Not good for anyone. It's hard to take I totally agree but I've seen it for years with many of the games I'm interested in. You should see the patch fever that takes hold with online games and updates. -F
  17. Those having difficulty reading it... Just in case you didn't know, you can click on a page to enlarge it so it can actually be read. Whilst agreed the viewer isn't ideal at least it gives us a little taste. -F
  18. This was the scenario we played at the Sydney preview. The Germans also won it that time with very little trouble so am thinking it's been designed that way. Bit of reversal of fortunes as far as which side usually has the greater resources in the Normandy setting. Very challenging for the US player. -F
  19. When Space Lobsters were first mentioned I did dream of one day having a "realistic" (in as much as that's possible) Warhammer 40k game using a CM like engine. Be that as it may I am hanging for CM2 eastern front modules. Hope that isn't too many years away. Be nice if they could leverage some of the work or resources from the Theatre of War titles to more quickly achieve that... Don't want much do I?? -F
  20. Was something I asked at the preview. An indication that your unit is going to route it's self all over the place to achieve a move order prior to it actually starting the move would be very useful and welcome. -Fenris
  21. Cheers, appreciate the effort. Thanks
  22. Watching the awesome VAARs in RT I got to thinking... As I understand it in a wego minute everything has already been calculated before you watch it play out and in RT it's all on the fly. If that's true does that help with fps in larger engagements? Am curious as my PC is a few years old. Thanks
  23. Looking at my gmail account... Played my last PBEM CMBB game in July 2006. Have run up CMBB once in a while since then. I think I pre-ordered CMBO, still got the CD to hand near my PC at home. I've managed to keep the same setup migrating through 3 or 4 PCs since then. Still has dozens of batch files in the root directory for swapping out vehicle skins and few choice screen shots. Fond memories.
