  1. I'd like to see hide/hold fire order too if and when possible. Reg's Fen
  2. Also note that their counter reports 1429 downloads so far.
  3. ....In the voice of the fat comic merchant off The Simpsons..... If any of you gentlemen would take your eye's off some guys toe nails you will note that the article linked in Iggi's 2nd post states that the MG34 fired a 7.62mm round.....This is infact incorrect, it fired a Mauser 7.92mm projectile. Fen
  4. Well the Panther can really turn the tables. I first snuck him down toward the ville on the right ride of the road...Poking his head up in a nice hull down position he took out 2 Shermans in one turn. The other 2 remaining shermans (76mm included) backed away behind the hill approaching Pomville and continued to pound away at some shattered infantry fleeing to the South East. Rushing my re-informents down into the village the extra platoon of infantry are now holding the US assault from the North of Pomville at bay and I've just moved the platoon originally guarding that flank toward town to catch the Ami's in some wicked cross fire. The Panther is now in the town helping the hard pressed infantry hold off the main US thrust. One more M4 is dead after pressing forward a little too far leaving one left slightly over the hill infront of Pomville. It's going to be closer than my first try at this scenerio but I'm now confident of holding them off. Think I'll be playing as the US next time around. Still having a great time, can't wait for the full version to arrive. Fen
  5. Am playing it again as German's but not with the default setup..... Am getting my a$$ royally kicked. It's about turn 16, the Panther has just turned up and hopefully he can save the day. Things of note this time around.... Arty hasn't played nearly as big a role pounding an unpopulated piece of open terrain and causing only a single casualty. Managed to get both 105 Shermans (after they did some crafty smoke poping to hide from my AT bunker). Then the AT bunker got taken out as the ami armour used a 2 pronged simultaneous attack from across the far ridge...Whilst the AT gun fire at one M4 the others pounded away and the AT gun was quickly KO'd. The M4's then pounded my forward platoon which is now leaderless and down to a single squad. I've already got US infantry past the wire and mines and things are looking grim as there are lots of contacts over on the right flank too coming up the hill toward Pomville. Will have to rush the re-inforcement's forward to lend a hand. So far I must say I am impressed, CM is shaping up to be "as advertised" and is highly enjoyable (although getting beaten by an AI is somewhat irritating ). Regards etc, etc. Hptm Fenris
  6. Well I held the American attack inflicting heavy casualties. The platoon on the right flank recovered somewhat and was at about half strength by the end. They were even able to pin down and then capture an MMG team. But the real fighting took place at the bottom of the valley approaching Pomville. My forward platoon was finally eliminated and all I had left was a single 'schreck team down there. I still however had the better part of 2 platoons in the village and they were able to hold off numerous American assaults. After being shrouded in smoke I ordered the Panther to to advance fast down thru the village and to cover the hill to the left of the road. The Panther certainly moved fast once underway and was on the scene within 25 seconds. With it's firepower it inflicted alot of damage. My final act was to charge 2 squads and a Platoon HQ down the hill from the village, across the road (behind the Panther ) and retake the victory location from the couple of US troops who'd battled their way that far. Got to see a potato masher fly as they charged in and the remains of 2 US squads surrended immediately. The Americans ended up withdrawing and I took 46 prisoners. The price was definitely high tho and even though I was awarded a victory my company had suffered about 40% casualties and I only had the Panther and a single MG bunker left. Was very enjoyable. I was struck by the intensity of the fire fights and the awesome power of the artillery. Regards etc, etc. Hptm Fenris
  7. Have been in contact with the enemy for approximately 25 minutes. So far the arty is murderous but the Panther has taken out 4 Sherman's. I guess he had the drop on them a bit but the smoke has only just started landing around him. 2 more M4's have been killed by the 75AT bunker and the sIG (both now KO'd). The arty has pounded the platoon on my right flank into disarray and I now have only an MG bunker to hold them off. The platoon at the bottom of the valley by the road has been reduced to a single man. Still have 2 platoons pretty much unhurt, one in the village buildings and the re-inforcements are making their way down the slop thru the trees. Motars are out of ammo. Think I can still hold them. Regards, etc etc Hptm Fenris Western Front
  8. You also may want to be wearing a mitten when changing the barrel after putting a couple of thousand rounds thru it. Fen Man I can't wait to play this thing!
  9. IIRC the ditches aren't in specifically, but are easy to create by modifying terrain with the editor into a ditch or very narrow stream or something....Has been discussed, try a search on that. Not sure re Dragon's Teeth. Reg's Fen
  10. Ok finally getting around to placing my order for CM. I of course want to ensure my copy arrives safely and I'd therefore like it to be shipped to my office as the billing address for my credit card is no where near as secure (postal service have left parcels on the door step during the day and they've diappeared whilst I'm at work). The order form is asking for the card's billing address only and I was subsequently reluctant to complete my order without knowing if I can give a separate mailing address. Please advise if I am able to specify the mailing address of the product for my order that's different to the address for my card. Thanks Fen
  11. I image that the forum will become very active initially and then settle into a nice continuous level of communication. Boards are a great place for a community based around something to stick together and talk shop. There'll be discussions, scenerio swapping, PBEM, bug reports (not to many of these I hope) and of course news - of patches, of CM2 and various web site updates. I'd be surprised that BTS would close it down - especially when it's part of the web site that you order their product from. But of course the gents at BTS have the final word....Steve? Reg's Fen
  12. The idea of AT rifles is still around, although they're called "anti material" rifles now. IIRC Steyr (sp?) have a 15mm rifle. It's primary purpose as the name suggests is to blow holes in engines and stuff like that. I don't know of any country who's armed forces have taken them up as standard equipment tho. Reg's Fen
  13. Nice one, pics all appeared fine for me. Personal best in CM is a Sherman at 132 meters with a 'schreck team. Reg's Fen
  14. Very good ideas Slazzari and Magnus. Reg's Fen
  15. I've just read "War of the Rats" by David Robbins which has exactly the same story line. Chief Master Sargeant Vasily Zaitsev makes a name for him self as a sniper and SS Colonel Heinz Thorvald is brought in to take him out. And yes the love interest really did happen (however hokey it seemed in the book). Intro says it's a factual account of events based on research and interviews. I preferred "Cross of Iron" and "The Forgotten Soldier" though, but a good read none the less. Reg's Fen
  16. Ahhh pointing this guy at WB Pritzl....Tsk, tsk aren't there laws against putting people onto addictive substances? Hope I'm talking to the right guy, s! You still flying? Reg's Fen [This message has been edited by Fenris (edited 04-04-2000).]
  17. FYI, if you're interested in a little fiction read "Fatherland" by Robert Harris. Is a thriller set in 1964 in a world were Germany was successful and rules all of eastern Europe up to the Urals. The cold war is on but between the Nazi government and the western allies. The Soviets are still around, fighting it out in the mountains. Also "SS-GB" by Len Deighton isn't too bad either. Another thriller set in an occupied UK. Reg's Fen
  18. I believe AAA weapons were regularly used to suppress infantry and light vehichles...Especially on the Ost front. I've seen footage of a truck mounted 20mm cannon being fired on the level to supress soviet infantry. It was reportedly quite devastating, as you can probably imagine. Regs Fen
  19. Loved Acient Art of War....Still got it and some custom scenerios on 5 and 1/4" floppies...Thanks for the pointer CoolColJ. reg's Fen
  20. It's actually a 12 video set with 26 episodes (yes I have them all). Is very good at giving you a broad look at the war in total. Doesn't get too nitty gritty but has lots of interviews and comments by veterans from all sides. Definitely worth US$50. Reg's Fen
  21. Hi Madmatt, Suggestion for the AAR's.... A "Next" button at the bottom of the page as a link to the next turns installment would be nice. Thanks for the the continuous updates, I really like the daily pics. Reg's Fen
  22. Ya Das Boot is better. Watched the first half hour of Stalingrad last night...Brought back the things I didn't like about the film...mainly the crappy acting and very melodramatic battle scenes. Ended up turning it off and reading "The Naked and the Dead" a book about a squad of Marines in the PTO.
  23. Just read the thread and will try the sounds out once I get home... WRT German voices, there's a bit were you hear "Los, los, los!" that would be good to use for the the "get moving" sound for the Germans. The bit I'm talking about is in the final battle when the GI's a lobbing the mortar rounds at the german infantry. One is thrown into and archway under a building, you hear the above mentioned Los! Los! Los! and then some poor bastard gets vaporised. Anyway, thanks for your effort. Reg's Fen
  24. Alt+Prnt Scrn copies the currently active window to the clip board. Prnt Scrn on it's own copies the entire screen to the clip board. As CM is 'full screen' when it's running you won't notice the difference. Fen Desktop Support Person PS a good trick to stress someone out is to do a Print Screen of their desktop and then set it as their wall paper. Then move or delete all their icons....They'll be clicking but nothing will happen...hehe
  25. This sounds very cool, I can imagine counter attacking over previously lost territory. See-sawing battles, taking, losing and then re-taking villages.... CM is looking like it's going to be THE best thing since sliced bread. But wait there's more...Ost Front
