  1. The Russians did try to train demolition equipped dogs to run under the German tanks during the early stages of the Eastern Front campaign. Trouble was, the dogs not only ran under the German tanks, but under the Soviet tanks, the General's field car, and Farmer Boris' favorite horse-drawn cart as well! This idea was soon scrapped! Mace
  2. IMHO, I think that an attack or assault against an established defence would take some time, and I think 50 turns is justified for larger battles. However, a randomly generated length of turn may be fun (as long as the duration is somehow tied to number of points available). General: 'See that bridge' Commander:'The one with mines, well entrenched infantry, and bristling with 88mm A/T'? General: That's the one! Clear it in 15 minutes! Commander: 'Ulp'! Mace
  3. Good idea, It would be nice to have individual markings on all the vehicles! However, a lot of additional programming would be involved - there's a generic skin for each armoured vehicle, by introducing specific AFVs you have to alter the program to keep track of both the 'special' vehicles and the generic ones as well. This of course will slow down the game a bit given the more processing required by the CPU! A responding Mace btw, You're going to read the Peng thread? In that case see you in a year, as that's how long it's going to read it, mate!
  4. Foo's speaking from (frequent) experience here!
  5. Well I'm pleased to announce that my little Sherman (with 76mm) took out a panther. The Panther crew were buttoned down, distracted by my infantry and hunting slowly to the end of a small rise. The Sherman, which was hull down on the reverse slope and hidden in vegetation, opened up, and got a flank shot on the Panther turret. Voila, 1 dead Panther. The screams of dismay of the Kampfgruppe commander, Muzzlehead, were said to be heard in Melbourne Australia (MH resides in Maryland USA, somewhere) btw, that's M...U...Z...Z... Sorry for all the confusion...WB <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Regardless, I think most of the people here appreciate all the hard work that you and the others go in designing and producing these gems! (and if you think I'm sucking up here, you're absolutely right) Mace btw, Brian Rock, not Bryan Rock!
  14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by *Captain Foobar*: CM Borg, you have me worried. Out of the 79 posts/assimilations you have made, this is the first time you have strayed from your trademark "You have been assimilated".... I almost fell out of my chair when I read "We have assimilated you"... Are all your circuits functioning optimally?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Probably adopting a more caring, sharing approach to assimilation!
  15. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Aussie Smith: I fear I have already started the next game demoralised Oh the Pain - The Pain Craig<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Goody, here's hoping that your demoralisation has an impact on our PBEM as well!

  17. Doh! We're about 1 week behind in the show in Oz, and you guys have to blab about the outcome! Oh well, one blessing, with this bit of intelligence I can make a bet with my missus about who's going to win. I could get very rich out of this!

Adding a Wirbelwind to defend your advancing elements against a Yak-7 straffing attack? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! Oh cripes, I got so excited I just wet myself! 20. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Steve Clark: Let me play Devil's Advocate here about CM2. Apart from technical enhancements as BTS described, won't some gamers say 'been there, done that'? Because of the scale of the game and the small map area, you're not going to feel like you're invading Russia (as you would in a strategic/operational level wargame). <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I'm sure there will be recognition of the capabilities of current hardware when the team cut the new CM2 code. In addition, the combat model and corresponding code will evolve with each release and each patch, given the level of professionalism that every one involved with CM1 have shown to date! <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>It will still primarily be tanks/troops vs tanks/troops just like in CM1. Just because you got T-34s and other different unit models, they still fire ammos, and the tactics will still be nearly the same, right?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Not necessarily, the Soviets had a very infexible military doctrine that went down to Platoon level. This will have major impact on tactics in CM2. Also, the late war Soviet AFV were much more evenly matched with German ones. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>CM1 could've been placed in the Outbacks of Australia and still be wargame of the year because of its revolutionary model. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> lol, Campers vs Dingos? We only have one Outback (not Outbacks), and there has never been a battle there (because it's too bloody hot to fight)! Mace [This message has been edited by Mace (edited 08-23-2000).]
