  1. Well, I haven't posted in quite awhile but I do read this board fairly regularly...
  2. Several times I have finished a QB and wanted to try something else on the same map but was frustrated at not being able to save the map...
  3. Yeah, I just think that I've noticed almost as many Off-topic posts as there are On-topic ones recently. At the same time it seemed that civility on this board was taking a nosedive... I don't post a lot, but I've been around for a while and things have gotten pretty nasty at times lately. Mind you, the vast majority of posts are still worthwhile, but a noticeable minority have been getting out-of-hand. Here's to hoping for a return to civilized and open debate...not personal vendettas and "holier than thou" preaching.
  4. I have to admit some of the recent O/T posts have been very interesting but also very inflammatory. In a forum where the majority of members have a keen interest in history there are plenty of opportunities for healthy debate to develop. However, this forum is not the place for it. Most of the posts would be better served in the "General Discussion" forum below. Perhaps as O/T topics pop up here they can be moved to the other forum to keep this forum for the purpose of discussing CM the game, not C/M the catalyst of historical debate. Just a thought. ________________________ KNIL: Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger --Royal Dutch-Indonesian Army-- [This message has been edited by KNIL (edited 08-25-2000).]
  5. And I hardly had time to play with 1.04 just loaded...
  6. hmmm... too bad there are no caves. Could have made for an interesting "Guns of Navarone" scenario. Perhaps in the upcoming CM Mediterranean.
  7. Just another attorney checkin' in saying that I also play CM... Perhaps the fact that a lot of history majors go on to law school has something to do with CM's popularity amongst the legally minded. Dunno for sure (I love history but didn't major in it).
  8. Just wanted to say thanks to Battlefront.com for sending me an e-mail when the patch was released. I don't know how many times I've purchased software begging me to register for "news and updates" only to just wind up on the mailer for their next advertising blitz...and never a word about the release of a patch for the game I just bought. Kudos. Robert
  9. Wow, what an interesting and thought provoking thread...
  10. This is almost exactly what I noticed in my Quick Battle scenarios.
  11. Quote: ------------------------ I've always pictured the difference being lower quality armor, artillary, etc in the CSA counteracted by higher quality troops and a focus on infantry-based weapons systems ------------------------ Interesting alternate history idea you bring up but what do you mean by higher quality troops? In relation to US troops or to Fallschirmjaeger or Waffen SS? What might have been true in the Civil War might not be true in later conflicts... Also, what about interaction between US, CS, and other Allies... It would have been tough/impossible for the US to invade Europe alone, let alone coping with the distances involved from the US mainland. Also, if the Russians had been defeated in the East perhaps the Germans would have been able to shift the lion's share of equipment and manpower to the western theatre. In that case it might be quite implausible to breach the German defenses. Interesting idea though... ------------------ Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger --Royal Dutch-Indonesian Army--
  12. Compared to most games, the AI is excellent and I didn't mean abnormally large...just curious what others thought were the best AI offensive scenarios.
  13. I was just wondering how other players are faring againt the computer AI while it is on the attack. I've read just about all the stellar reviews and if there is one minor thing that is consistently mentioned, it is that the computer is much better on defense and is rather reckless on offense. This is true of most computer wargames. I set up several quick battles and put the computer on offense and tried to see what would happen at normal settings. Several times I decimated the attacker. Of course, tweaking with the advantage or computer experience settings helped to turn the tide against me. But the abnormal damage my troops appeared to suffer didn't seem realistic. What are the best scenarios where the computer is the attacker and resulted in very good/difficult games at normal settings and equal strengths?
  14. Wow, those are some really nice looking tanks... I can't wait to download those!
