  1. Don't sweat it! As a man ages, his brain shrinks, and he gets grumpy, and he starts to whinge about this and that! That's all thats probably happening! Mace <--- old boardgamer speaking from experience
  2. One magazine that may help is 'After the Battle'. Each issue deals with 1 or 2 battles, includes maps, and has a lot of photos of the battle area then (in WW2) and now! Mace
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by ntg84: The most fun of modeling is buying what we can't build.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> lol. Yeh, for every 3 kits I buy, I seem to complete 1. My stock pile of unmade AFVs, figures and aircraft kits are heading to the ceiling fast! Mace
  4. We obviously have quite a few experienced grognards / gamers amongst this group, but one thing I always wondered is how many of this CM fraternity dabble with military modelling? Mace
  5. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Pillar: That sounds awesome! Does BEL have a website?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Pillar, Behind enemy Lines was published by Fasa well over 10 years ago! I don't think it's still available. Mace
  6. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Madmatt: Vomit....Thats all I have seen for the last 18 hours. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> What? Don't tell me you've been reading the CMHQ chat logs again! But seriously, get better Matt/mate! Mace
  7. Mace thwaps Roadrunner ISP with large trout! Bugger, now I'll have to do something constructive with my forthcoming weekend? Mace [This message has been edited by Mace (edited 07-27-2000).]
  8. Foo, Let us know how it turns out! Mace As for Paranoia....nope, sorry, Traveller's the best!
  9. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by marcusm: Actually Gurkhas are fearsome just about anywhere . Marcus<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yep, hang on to your ears when fighting those guys.....they collect 'em as souvenirs! Mace
  10. Hmmm...I've had SL and the various add-ons somewhere in my dusty stack of boardgames......I wonder if my daughter is up for a game! Mace
  11. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Pillar: Mace, is the Australian Army one of the forces involved in combatting that militia group run by two 12 year olds (or whatever their age was)?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Pillar, the Australian army will fight anyone! <G> But seriously, No the two lads were leaders of a Burmese militia who raided in both Burma and Thailand! If I remember correctly this group has been dealt with by the Burmese Military! Mace
  12. I don't know whether this is national pride talking or not, but I think the Australian and New Zealand defence forces are quite capable! I would say that our SAS is up there with the best! Check out http://www.dod.gov.au/index.html Mace
  13. Jeff, Sounds great! Perhaps Madmatt would be interested in including that as a resource download from CMHQ? Mace
  14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Iconoclast: I wonder if my own son will wax nostalgically about Doom and Jedi Knight 30 years from now? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> With the speed at which computer technology and game design improves....they'll wax nostagically about a computer game a week after it's release! Mace
  15. I game therefor I am! To be honest, although CM would have to rate as the best tactical computer wargame to ever come along, I also enjoy other games, especially strategic level wargames & military sims, and plan to continue buying quality products along these themes! I must say though CM, once It arrives, will be the one that remains on my harddrive for the most time, or at least until CM2 comes along! Mace
  16. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by paullus: I don't know about the bottom armor on the Ferdinand, but the entire vehicle was a waste of resources. Almost all of them were lost at Kursk because the designers forgot to give them a single MG. Russian infantry just walked up to them and took them out with grenades and satchel charges. Now at a distance, they were probably decent in the AT role, but their tactical use was a complete disaster.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> The Germans invisaged that the supporting infantry would help prevent the Russkies from getting too close to the Ferdinand. Trouble was, the infantry got shot away immediately after the jumping off point, but the Ferdinand's pressed on regardless. One Ferdinand at Kursk did in fact have a MG - an interprising crew bought one along and fired it down the barrel of the 88mm! Roll on CM2! Mace
  17. Pillar, The Macromedia suite of products work extremely well together, and should be considered. The ones I've used include Dreamweaver (web development), Fireworks (graphics) and Freehand (vector graphics). I would suggest that you take the time to learn HTML though, as it's sometimes a lot more effective to develop HTML script with a text editor, and besides you'll learn how HTML hangs together! Mace
  18. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Mirage2k: I had assumed that all NATO countries would get protection. -Andrew <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> According to Mr Cohen, interviewed while out in Oz last week for Australian-US defence talks and asked if the defence envelope would include Australia, 'all trust-worthy, dependable US allies will share in the technology'! This would suggest that protection goes further than NATO, as Australia is part of the ANZUS alliance, but I suppose it depends on the definition of 'trust-worthy' or 'dependable'! Mace hmmm....better dig that bomb cellar just in case! [This message has been edited by Mace (edited 07-24-2000).]
  19. My first game would have to be: SPI's Panzer'44, a tactical level Western Front boardgame with plotted moves - CMs granddaddy! On the computer, which was a C64, would be SSI's Kampfgruppe. Mace
  20. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by *Captain Foobar*: GOD, I never really realised how wonderful I am..... I am so lucky to be me, I just sit around and look at myself in the mirror all day... I dont remember exactly where I got that last quote, but I might be paraphrasing.. (Putting on asbestos trench coat) <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> ROFLMAO Foo, you'll have to widen those doors at home mate, just so you can get your swollen head through 'em! As for the grid? I'd use it myself just so I can determine the contours a bit more easily! And the 'ahem' proposed hex field? Only if we get the corresponding die roll displayed at the upper right hand side of the screen, along with the combat results table! Mace [This message has been edited by Mace (edited 07-24-2000).]
  21. Me, I'm still waiting after about 5 weeks due to an error at the sending end! (although my copy will be postage free, once it arrives)! While I'm at it, any fellow aussies interested in chatting at Matt's CMHQ chat-of-luv one night on a frequent basis? Mace
  22. Jagdpanther - very good gun, well armored, mobile, and one fine looking beastie! As for those of you who chose the Maus.....Guy's, if ya' going to have a Maus, why not settle for an E100!!! Mace
  23. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Madmatt: Yes, I do work in IT but I also did game devolopment work in the past and I would drop my current career in second to get back to what I truely enjoy... BEING A BOUNCER AGAIN!!! Madmatt... <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Hmmmm....that would explain your CMHQ chat management style, practice for your favorite occupation! Mace
  24. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Sailor Malan: Wow, I thought I was keen. I hadn't even noticed the trucks were the same. In fact I have just thought, which turrets do the Tiger11s have? Porsche or Henschel? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Henschel I hope! We all know that the Porsche turret was a projectile trap (ask the MG'er and Driver) BTW, what suspension does the Jagtiger have? Porsche or Henschel? Mace
  25. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Bullethead: ...There is no budget for real training, just watching movies, and there are no spare parts. Plus with the increased level of commitment for the reduced level of assets remaining in service, time for maintenance has been greatly reduced But this is hearsay--I'm a PFC these days (proud friggin' civilian). <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> You're right, BH, what you're pointing out is simply a syndrome of Current Western Defence spending practise - minimise!
