1. I'm more comfortable playing as the Germans - something about those clean looking SdKfz's I will however play as any side as long as it results in a game! Mace
 2. I'm terribly, terribly sorry, but....... ......there's no such thing as playing too much CM!!!!! Crikey, are you guys wimps or what? Mace
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Jeff Heidman: I, personally, have not a clue how they make these models. Frankly, I am not sure I have a single artistic bone in my body. However, they have *some* process for creating their models. What that process is, I do not know. Jeff Heidman

My understanding is that it is a two step process: you first build the AFV as a 3D wire frame, and then you add 'skins' to it. It's the building of the frame that takes the most time! Mace
 4. Yep, I'd agree that it's a bit of a waste on the Western Front with small engagement ranges and restrictive terrain, but get this baby on the Russian Steppes where it can shoot at very long range, and I think it'll fill a very nice niche! Mace
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by IDF: How the hell did you blokes get it for $62? The bloody Oz $ is .58c to US$!!!

We pre-ordered 4 copies way back last year, however a computer glitch at the shipping end prevented the package from being sent to Aus for quite some time. As such, we were told that they wouldn't charge us for shipping, just the cost of CM (great guys or what)! That meant that final cost to us was $62 Aus! If the game cost $100 Aus, I would still buy it, cause it's such a great piece of programming! Besides, the way the Aus dollar is at the moment, you may have a long wait ahead of you! Mace
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Fionn: The problem is that once you start getting into the field of "incorrect restoration" it could be almost anything.

Regardless of it's accuracy, I sure would like a beastie like that in the back yard (but then again, my wife wouldn't so that's the end of that story)! Mace
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Aussie Smith: The game is great - and there is lots of people here to kick your butt in a PBEM Craig

....Is that a challenge? Mace (rolling up sleeves)
 8. Counting the number of posts, huh? Oh you poor soul! No CM yet? Mace
 9. Looking at it, I don't think it's based on a PzKpfw 38(t) chassis as per consensus as it appears to have torsion bar suspension rather than the springs that the 38(t) had. Further, if you replaced the small bogies with the larger 38(t) ones you would get bogie overlap, which the 38(t) never had. I'd have to go with the guess that it's based on a captured small Soviet AFV like the T50, T60 or T70. Regardless, this sounds like a job for Steven Zologa! Mace (who'll now make himself scarce before the flames start)
 10. $62 and a bloody long time! (But it's here now, and that's all that matters)! btw, is someone maintaining a register of Aussie CM players? Mace
 11. ...with the support of the PanzerkampfRodent and ratwaffe Mace [This message has been edited by Mace (edited 08-15-2000).]
 12. World at War's been mentioned, but there are others: The Time/Life video series 'A century of war' (or is it warfare?) is very good IMHO. Another set to look for is Chronos videos series on the development of German WW2 AFVs - there are 7 videos in total, each covering the development of a particular tank etc (eg Panther, Tiger, Stug). I think there is a English video publisher called DDV (Fionn, help!!!!), that has quite an extensive Military series. Mace
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Tiger: This works pretty good and now the battlefield doesn't look like a scene from "The Sound of Music" -johnS

Hmmmm....The Sound of Music....does that mean we get a new unit added to the CM force mix: "The Von Trapp family"? Mace
 14. G'day Nevres, The PBEM files are saved as text in the PBEM folder, but you don't need open them with a text reader or anything (unless, AHEM, you're trying to break the code). Just attach them to your email message and send them to the other player. Conversely, just save an incoming PBEM file from the other player straight to the Combat Mission PBEM folder. Hope this helps. Mace
 15. I have an improvement...have it merge the background images with prerecorded ones! I can then use prerecorded film of myself working extremely hard, merge it with the office background view on screens strategically placed between the Boss and I, and take a long nap! From the Boss' perspective, it looks like I'm still working! Yep, I like this new technology! Mace
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: Ok, I had to get a more feature filled update ready or my head was going to explode so I cranked out one for breakfast.

Personally, I would prefer to see the exploding head myself, especially at breakfast! but hey, that's the sort of guy I am (weird)! Mace
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Moriarty: Roight-0 ... don't give the Ozzies an even break.

Hey, just because we don't have Hamsters in Oz!!!!! Mace
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Phil the Dill: Damm Austrailian tech. Sigh. Sigh.

You can get it down here, ya got pay a fortune to put it on though. i) cost of connecting to cable TV (if cable is available) ii) cost of cable modem iii) cost of exhorbitant ISP cable fees GACK! Mace
 19. When someone mentions gaffer tape in the same sentence with Hamsters, that's when I become concerned!.... .....'doh'! Mace [This message has been edited by Mace (edited 08-12-2000).]
 20. Kampfgruppe? Can also remember Panzer Strike, Overrun and of course, Tanks! Crikey, I'm getting old! 8P Mace
 21. There was a movie based on one of the Sven Hassel books! Appaling editing ruined what could have been an Ok film! Mace
 22. Thanks for the info, KwazyDog. that'll teach me to be lazy and not do a search! Mace
 23. Because AFVs have a somewhat more restrictive travel path (due to terrain), It may be possible to identify possible avenues of approach, and position your troops accordingly. Works for me (sometimes)! Mace Oh, about tacair, there's some text in the manual about how it operates!
 24. As an avid lover of all things Eastern Front, I was wondering if CM2 i) would include the Great Motherland war in its entirety from 1941 through to 1945, ii) would allow battles prior to 1941 (eg the Russian invasion of Finland), or iii) would allow battles commencing only from a period well after Operation Barbarossa? My own preference would be, if the scope of the entire Eastern Front war is too large to model, to commence it circa 1943 when both the Russians and Germans were phasing in the next generation of armour (eg Panther D, Su 85, Su 152, T34/76 C, etc). What is everone else's view on this? Mace btw, we all know that CM is just training for the real one, CM2, right?
 25. I did see a brief article about it in Strategy Plus well over a year ago, but didn't think about it much then. It wasn't until I started having the occassional lunch with one of the CM beta testers that my interest increased (all he would talk about is how great the beta CM was, what they were currently working on, and what would be in the package once released). Ahhhhh, those were the days! Mace
