Thanks for the answers,

Remember that a Campaign is based on the particular release. Therefore, the initial release will have US/German only. The Commonwealth one will have Commonwealth/German only. Etc. Players, however, can make their own campaigns with whatever is available at the time. If someone wants to make a campaign that requires all four games (base + 3 Modules) that's absolutely fine with us. But we won't be making anything like that because it would be wrong for us to charge people for content in a particular release that they can't use unless they owe other releases.

however doesn't everyone need to own the first Normandy release, the base game? So couldn't following modules use content from the base game, like a US vs SS/FJ campaign included with the commonwealth/SS/FJ module as everyone would have the US and they would then buy the add-on to get the campaign?

Also, +1 for detailed hit reports, but they'd be hard to catch when playing real time.

Yes, and that's a very good point that I should have mentioned.

Since the base game is required for Modules we can obviously safely include base game units. We did this for CM:SF Marines, British Forces, and NATO. And that means you are correct that we could, in theory, make a Campaign for the Commonwealth Module that has base game US forces in it. But we won't do that as a rule, only as an exception.

The point of the campaigns and stand-alone scenarios we make is to have them support the NEW content of that particular release. Some of the base game content will for sure be used, especially on the German side, however we aren't going to tailor a whole Campaign to use significant portions of the base game units. When the Arnhem Module comes out even less of the base game's stuff will be used.

Again, players can make whatever they want. But for us, we will remain focused on battles and campaigns that utilize as much of the new content as possible.

We used the enfield in school cadets. All one had to do to reload it was unbolt the rifle, and then push an ammo clip through the resulting opening at the top of the rifle through to the magazine.

So there wasn't a need to carry around extra mags of ammo, just the clips.

What was school like in the 1930's?

Do you mean to say that in order to load the rifle you had to remove the bolt entirely? Or just open it? The latter sounds more likely, but who knows what those crazy Brit designers were up to?

Dunno. WaAAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAaaay before my time! :P

No way were we cadets going to be given more modern military equipment to destroy!

Just open it (closing it loaded another round in the chamber)

The screenshots look very impressive and the internal detail on the Priest is great. I hope to see as much detail in other areas now also, (Infantry in particular) with regard to uniform colours and insignias etc, on different nationalities.

Also please include winter camo this time for Infantry and vehicles or at least Infantry.

Winter camo in the Summer of 1944 ?

Im sure there will be wintercamo in the module that covers battle of the bulge thoe, but I doubt Normandy will have winter camo. as far as I can recall it wasnt widely used there :)

I realise Summer months but I'm referring to winter months here, or more specifically those scenarios with winter dates involved and snow as weather option.;)

Winterized units and winter weather? Sure, Monty had trouble breaking out at Normandy, but I hadn't realized it was that bad.

In case I'm misunderstanding something here doesn't CMX1 offers winter dates as an option and so isn't it likely CMX2 will also offer this option? Obviously I don't expect this if this new module will only be set in June, but I'm saying this is what I hope to see in due time.

Or to put it another way I hope to see CMX2 include winter options in at least one module just to clarify.

No, in the first WW2 Family it is only going up to August. Thus no winter anything. CMx2 is not just CMx1 with prettier graphics.

Edited: Actually, it is going to Market Garden. M'bad.

For my part, I don't doubt that the modders will be busy cranking out all kinds of goodies, including, sooner or later, winter camo skins. But the question is whether winter weather and terrain will be possible in the first family, and that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

While the Normandy campaign is the main focus of the family, along the way it is going to reach in to September to cover Market Garden too.

Unless I missed a memo.

This also paints a nice theme for the two families.

One has the advance across occupied Europe, the other covers the advance in to Germany.

Skellen, BFC plans on doing a title and modules centered around The Bulge...I am sure if they don't include winter textures some of our prolific modders will.

Mord.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hey, look at the equipment list for the Bundeswehr in the announcment. It's rather short, or what? No MP2/5/7, no Milan ATGM, no G82, no HK69. No MTW M113. No Dingo. No Tornado!?!

Sorry, but that's a bit poor for the long time this module has took.

Is the equipment list for the other nations more complete??

Yes, i thought this too as i saw the list...

- Eurocopter Tiger

- ATF Dingo

- MOWAG Eagle

- AGF Serval

- Mungo

- HK MP7

Ok, the Tornado and the HK GMG are in the game already. But i think some more Vehicles (see my list), a MP7 for the crews and the Tiger would be nice.

How much of what you name is in service with frontline units?

I thought SMGs are pretty much limited to specialist units. The Milan was replaced with the Spike. How widely used is the G82? (Barrett .50 for you and me) I couldn't say if it needs to be included one way or the other.

HK 69, is it even in use? I thought it's all UGLs now. Nor do I expect M113s to be deployed by the Germans as a frontline vehicle in an expeditionary force. Had the Dingo even entered service in 2008?

The only thing that surprised me too was the scare air support. Really, they only get the old BO-105? The Eurofighter and Tornado seemed a certainty, with the Brits having them too. F-4 II was perhaps a bit too much to hope for. It would've been nice to have the Eurocopter Tiger, but a bit dubious considering numbers and current employment.

Wikipedia says Spike ATGM is limited in the German army to 3-400 launchers firing the long range version on PUMA vehicles, and PUMA's only supposed to be entering service this year. Eurospike replacing Milan seems to be some way down the road. There's still some 10,000 or so Milan launchers knocking around Europe and 350,000 missiles.

Close, but not quite.

But that's too late for 2008. So I guess Milan really does need to be brought along.
