I'd like to see a North Africa module for Fortress Italy. Most of the factions AND equipment are already there. I would like for less families, and more modules for existing families. Giving each game more stuff to play with. Not sure how this would look on the software side. From what I understand, maintaining a large number of families is a bottleneck. Hopefully, CM3 will be one family, one love.
Here, here. Growing up, I was taught that Monty rescued the Allied situation in North Africa. Wavell and Auchinleck were seen as tired, dusty, and obsolete generals, that had let the situation deteriorate to a fiasco. Yet, it seems that they sowed the seeds for victory at El Alamein. Now, I hold Wavell in high esteem. After a bit of reading on Market Garden, I do question Montgomery's decision making.
All this being said, all these great generals and marshals (including Zhukov) were just men. During the war, propaganda made them seem as titans -- after the war, as legends. In reality, they sometimes made uninformed decisions. Often, got involved in sticky politics. Right place, right time. Wrong place, wrong time. Reality is very complex, and it's hard to attribute "good" or "bad" without a specific context.
My favourite US general of WW2 happens to be George Marshall. I don't think he won a single battle.

While not needed for the force on force fights....non combatants (both in vehicles and on foot) would be really really cool if included in CM3 or somehow written into the current game. No doubt this has been discussed since day one of SF1 but as I just started playing SF2 it is the first time I've encountered insurgents since my aborted attempt at SF1 nearly a decade ago. Non combatants could be used in partisan scenarios or 'evacuate the civilians' in WW2 as well. Not just unarmed squads btw. Just sayin'.

To give a contrarian view, was thinking that the above has become an accepted "politically correct" cliche spouted by everybody these days.  Maybe it's time for a film to promote the "joyful, fun and positive" aspects like "comradeship, and opportunities for advancement" (for the sake of balance etc.)?

Trying to compare Trump with Hitler or Stalin as some attempt to do is rather silly and says more about the intellect and sheltered life experience of those people than anything else.

T34s are still being fired up on youtube. Panthers couldn't make it 100 miles w/o mechanical issues. You may want to think about that last sentence.

No they come out and deliver what they're going to give you. IDK how much that would breakdown in a major conflict.

Attilaforfun got a reaction from c3k in TacAI stupidity: Stryker infantry opens hatches to shoot and die instatly
You guys are taking this SOP stuff very seriously. When the Stryker Bdes first stood up there was lots and lots of making it up as you go along. Very few of the their NCOs were former mech. None of their officers were. Let me tell you how hot a metal box gets in 125 degree sunlight. Now add boots, clothes and armor...and for the crewmen the extremely tight CVC helmet. It's fricken hot. Dangerously hot. There's no AC on the standard Stryker. I can't describe how hot. The air guards were more about getting air (while also allowing air to flow inside the stinky filthy infantry Stryker) than providing air guard. The excuse would be more eyes on the environment. They were mostly light infantry and were never comfy with vehicles. I'm not exaggerating.  (I was a 19K...M1 armor crewman...but they broke up our armor Bns and sent us to the inf. We were supposed to man the MGS systems but they weren't ready so the tankers manned the Strykers of 4th platoon of each company...ATGMs.)

well requested anyway. Big battle. I'll play the weaker force...Rus if you want the US, Ukraine if you want the Russians. Big rough map (I know what happens in the open) and lots of points.

Obviously it's a matter of personal taste but having multiple engagements all over the map is exactly what I enjoy in huge scenarios.
In CM1 it was not uncommon to have maps up to 8Km x 4Km and what was enjoyable was having to think operationally:  "Where do I recon, where to probe, where to defend, where to strip forces from to create reserves and where to place them, and eventually... where will my main assault be?"   One could end up having many engagements of differing types and sizes all over the map.  I admit that handling a reinforced regimental TF is mentally arduous, but it's more fun than just having one huge battle with everything all in.
I agree the issue of bringing up large numbers of reinforcements along a road however, is a bit of a "make work" timewaster and not fun.  Can only hope that CM3 will feature some sort of road march feature that will allow all units to follow a leader in a sensible way.
The CM2 game system is very good as is.  But, getting units to do things can often be arduous.  Streamlining the UI and reducing the number of clicks and commands needed to get things done hopefully will be more of a BF priority in future.
    eg:
    A convoy command per above.
A new ACQUIRE system in which units can swap/acquire from adjacent units (with time penalties and quantity limitations).
A "Wait in Ambush, Shoot, then Immediately Displace" (to safe secondary position) command for snipers and AT teams etc.
Bring back the "one click 180 degree covered arc" that we had in CM1.
Am sure players can think of many more that would reduce the irritating "make work" aspects of the game, enabling more player time to be spent on the fun tactical decisions.

+1  It's a shame that feature was eliminated from CM2.  I keep hoping for something similar in CM3.

I'm also hoping that the Volkssturm opens the door to the addition of partisans to Fortress Italy and Red Thunder.

Attilaforfun got a reaction from Artkin in Mosul (Iraq) The small red-headed child of an epic MOUT map!
If there is a map of Mosul, or at least NW Mosul I would purchase SF2 today. I may have spent some time on those lovely streets.
A couple of notes from that vacation:
I was (and remain) a huge fan of CMBB. When CMSF came out I purchased it immediately. I played one mission and never played again. Strykers were getting knocked out left and right by RPG-7s. Unless the ammo for those RPGs has changed significantly since 2004 the odds of destroying a Stryker with an RPG hit should be about 5%. That's a hit. Only about 20% fired actually hit especially once return fire begins (admittedly this probably had more to do with the experience level of the enemy). To be honest I've never seen a hit once suppression begins. 7 Strykers hit with RPGs (including one hit 4 times) led to one total loss (we used to store our POL on the outside...stopped that poor practice after a second platoon Stryker burned to the ground...no casualties and the only lost Stryker from combat) and one penetration leading to one casualty (that was ugly but he was evaced to Germany and survived). I believe RPGs are MASSIVELY overpowered in this simulation.
My next complaint...mortars. In particular 60mm mortars. I must admit, whether gaming or RL I have never taken mortars seriously. I used to mock our mortars saying their only purpose was to lay smoke. (Ironic as my kid is now a mortarman in the 101st...he wouldn't follow me into the decisive branch...armor. Sad.) So...summer 2004 in Mosul. Bn is having a volleyball tourney. Hot summer day, no missions going on....most of the Bn is gathered round watching the companies compete. (It was dull....I was actually in my conex playing games). Insurgents fire of a string of 60mm rounds. 3 land right on the court where they are playing volleyball. The rest of the Bn gathered in tightly. This should have been a disaster of epic proportions. As it was a third of those there got purple hearts...for scratches. Not one single serious injury. One hundred guys in T Shirts and shorts (no armor) and 3 60mm rounds land right in their midst...doing nothing. Mortars are overpowered as well!

35 min in and It is awesome. have you ever had a car chase in the dark while playing CM? I did in this scenario. A PZ IV got passed on the road by a loaded US deuce and a half. Passed! My turret turned but didn't fire. The truck disappeared around the corner in the dark! I had to chase it for 2 turns not knowing if it had turned off as all I would see were occasional noise indicators. Outstanding.
@George MC you need to look at this one. I believe you'll appreciate it.

I can't speak for the javelin or any Sov ATGMs...I've never fired them nor seen them fired (plenty of rpgs though). When you fire the main gun on a tank it fires instantly like a rifle. When you fire a TOW there is about a second pause before it leaves the tube while the gyros are spinning up and the rocket is firing. It doesn't sound like much but the Sabot has already hit the target.
Don't misunderstand....not beating my chest here saying I'm all that. Ha! Hardly...I just happen to know these two particular weapon systems and the vehicles that haul them around.

A decade as a 19K finishing the last 3 years with the infantry on a TOW Stryker. I fired both systems MANY times although only the TOW at live targets. 1300 meters is point blank and if both systems fire at the same time the sabot will hit (and kill) and another round is on the way before the TOW strikes. The sabot punches through reactive armor like butter. The TOW 2B top attack is still an unknown as far as I'm concerned but is still slower.
