  1. Taliban means students of Islam and they were supported by the Democratic senator Charley Wilson. He used his influence to supply the high tech weapons. So the ones in Kabul now are as weary of the west as anybody else. The moment Osama Bin Laden was dealt with it should have been mission accomplished. The Taliban being devout Muslims were anti-communist, and at the time natural allies.
  2. We need a modification of the engine which would not be too difficult. Unless you click on one of your units you don't see any contact icons. You see only contacts generating to your units by the command-and-control network. I try to ignore icons which a unit is not supposed to see but it is not easy. If you don't enjoy the game us such by all means play on an easier setting. It is a little pointless playing on Iron if all you need to do is not select any units and you're back on Elite.
  3. They don't need spies; their sons will enter Sandhurst become model students and we are none the wiser. Children in 3rd world countries I found speak very conversational English. Our politics were based on Soviet expansion in the 20th century. We actually need to visit the place.
  4. The term borg spotting in the instance of TRP's came from one of the senior members of The Few Good Men website. I agreed with him and use it myself now. The military seems to be only interested in ammunition expenditure during a game. This also came from The Few Good Men website. What is possible is to make contact icons invisible unless a unit is selected. What I say here comes from people I consider more knowledgeable than myself.
  5. Ok fair enough your reply has been noted and appreciated. Eavesdropping on communications has been solved by masking and codes. Navajo native speakers or odd regional language speakers in Europe or indigenous Australians could be used too.
  6. Red Thunder is at that stage of the war that tactically the Soviets equaled the Germans tactically.
  7. During the Battle of Arnhem, the Dutch Telcom had their network available for the British who had no radio. Security wise not perfect, but they could have used Gaelic or Welsh speakers to solve this issue. The Russians according to some of their documentaries made use of the Berlin telephone network. In modern warfare we have 'Spies' in SF2 who don't have C2 as they don't have a radio. What is the point of spying if you don't have a radio or a cell phone? The man would be operating in a densely populated urban environ ment. Irregulars, partisan, underground is as old as warfare itself.
  8. @37mm the extreme example is TRP's FO can sit anywhere and any scout team who spots an enemy unit near the TRP passes it on to you the 'God of War' who orders the FO who is on 'Hide' in the church to call out the artillery strike. At least when I play a single player scenario do it if the FO also has a contact icon. You can't do that if you play PBEM. The issue could be handled by no LOF pop up if there is no contact icon near the place you wish to plot area-fire.
  9. Sorry for butting in but if you have excel you can calculate it. On map I agree it is basically a direct fire weapon. it is not much different than the 75 mm of the Sherman. In RL tank guns were used for indirect fire like the HMG's. Doing all these tactics maybe for a future edition.
  10. To get a view in buildings from 2nd to the 3rd floor for example.
  11. I don't use them; If somebody is rude it is you. I addressed the issue with @Sgt.Squarehead Not using cover arcs unless under C2 of your platoon commander is ridiculous. Most Sergeants are capable of assigning firing zones especially to carry out a standard drill.
  12. The units you see if you select nothing is borg spotting. To plot LOS and LOF on units another unit sees is borg spotting. Your definition of borg spotting is different than mine. I call borgspotting cheating against yourself. If you take shortcuts outside your command and control. The reason I play on Iron nothing to do with skill just more fun for me. On Elite you see all of your own units that is borg spotting on Iron you don't only if you deselect all than you do borgspotting.
  13. Lived in a moderate Muslim country. They made my presbyterian aunt look like an atheistic freethinker. Friendly people just don't discuss religion.
  14. Actually, a different camera system. Camera 1 First Person shooter +driver's position. Camera 2, AFV Turret Camera3 Open. Climb up the stairs with the mouse wheel. Camera 5-9 Actual maps or screen displays. Stops borg spotting.
  15. I can't see any point restricting a player. This is an assault, and the team executes a battle drill. If I stop the 'assault move' two squares away from the objective and place a cover arc on the objective. There is a good chance they lob a grenade there if they get a visual. To cover outside their cover arc is the job of other units. The function of a cover arc is to make sure they look in the right direction. Anyway, it is a long time before I play Pbem and it won't be with people who make up nonsensical rules.
  16. Combat Mission Bridges have enough bugs already. Throw some metal dinner plates on the road that causes an instant traffic jam. Executing a partisan was not a war-crime executing a POW was. Didn't do the POW much good in a typical 1-hour battle, emotions tend to run high. For blowing up Bridges. Forward observer 8-inch gun unlimited ammunition and a TRP. Place a TRP on the bridge call out a strike(Have to work out the Danger Close distance). Don't know when to cease fire you need thermal sight to see through the dust.. Preferably try to time it till there are some enemy units on the bridge.
  17. Maybe it has to do with the trajectory of a 75 mm shell. You can have LOS but not LOF.
  18. Never mind he has a -1 for leadership. He has binoculars, a radio and is a veteran. It is written in the Good Book "Seek and Thou Shalt Find." Artillery you have from 0 to 15 minutes consider the 15 min. The platoon can find the enemy and the FO can find the ideal spotting position for adjustments.
  19. There is an excellent documentary from 'Star Media' about it on YouTube.
  20. I look at the skepticism when they saw the first prototype tanks. Tactics really change slowly till there comes a shock. Like the introduction of the ATGM, the Sagger made the Centurion, M48, M60 obsolete overnight. For 27 years the West relied on armour which were basically WW2 tanks. The Milan and TOW also were introduced at the time. They knew there was technology which could deal with weapons. Nowadays the invasion of Afghanistan with a code of conduct which is also 19th century and embraced by the lawmakers and politicians. I am not here to discuss my political views, put to quote Shakespear in modern terms 'The PC is mightier than an MBT.'
  21. It is a way out of sharing ammo from a knocked out AT gun, look for the ammo-bearers and do buddy aid.
  22. Yes, I will check it but few opportunities unless an ammo bearer received a Dear John letter.
