  1. The issue is the driver can only bailout and not dismount like a RL driver. Then again scripting a game like this is not for everybody. World War Europe most people didn't have a car and the trucks you had to change gears by double clutching. But if a Panzer Grenadier can drive his halftrack, he should be able to drive an Opel Blitz.
  2. I never addressed the man only the non sensical rules. The best way If we play PBEM just the two players will agree how the game is played. I can't see myself playing a game in which I can't use cover arcs on squad level. Most regular infantry can be acting NCO's and capable of issuing firing zones. That's how we play on Hotseat. Area fire on anywhere on the terrain with no contact-icons once there is a contact icon for example AFV must have a contact-icon before firing. It is easy he just opens up next to infantry who has the contact icon. Cover arcs have multiple uses. Easier to see the terrain depressions, check the situational awareness of your units. If you make rules it should cover the issue in or two paragraphs. Like a battle plan must be simple to scribble down on a World War 2 era notebook. Kind regards and happy gaming. PS what he thinks about me is none of my business.
  3. Here is a battle report of a real MOUT operation Armor, APC's and Infantry. Infantry led the way no visual spotting but by taking fire and returning fire at suspected enemy positions. Microsoft Word - Binh Ba- by Raymond Gallacher.doc (5rar.asn.au)
  4. Tells me not to use a cover arc never addressed him personally besides I am not keen playing on line anyway. I leave people who are using his rules well alone. I play strictly with relative spotting as shown by the AI.
  5. Russian tactics. Squad of submachine gunners on a T34/76 SU152 on standby for the bottom floors T34/76 for the upper floors. After the dust settles the squad of submachine gunners do their assault.
  6. Wait till it comes out I still have RT on engine 3. I just wait till it comes out before I update. Like to play 'Blunting the Spear' on the new engine. Pzr4 vs T34/85 is a challenge.
  7. I checked it in FB and Battle for Normandy. The driver can get out an Opel Blitz by bailing out, but the driver of the halftrack can dismount. It makes sense that the Panzer grenadiers were taught to operate their equipment. Truck drivers had probably civilian experience before enlisting. It is a Combat Mission thing dismount anyone can replace the driver. Bail out only the driver can operate the vehicle.
  8. Artillery call it in as early as you can, you can always adjust or cancel the mission. You don't spot enemy and then call in the artillery. The procedure artillery is called in before anything is spotted. If you play British in Battle for Normandy it is your key weapon.
  9. Exactly in SF 2 house cleaning they can breach the outer wall. First thing in the editor, make a test range and see the effect of the different weapons. My mistake I ignored it for too long.
  10. My tip for huge battles if you have excel use it or Google spreadsheets. You need to put in place proper administration.
  11. You make my day, somebody who agrees with me. Now please click my YouTube link above and get some proper lectures about the subject. My mind boggles the amount of free information available.
  12. Recon by fire was the job of the .50 Cal machine gun not the main gun. Infantry will pass on their intel to nearby tanks if you unbutton the tank. Infantry HQ can do a horizontal C2 with HQ of an Armored unit. If you do a proper recon with your C2 in place your armor receives the contact icons two or three turns later.
  13. Recon SLLS, Stop Look Listen and Smell we can't smell on the PC. But we can stop a unit well in front of an advance. Scouts don't spot much if there is no stimuli in the area. We hear fire in the game click on the unit where the sound is loudest. Look for places with hard cover. By clicking for example a house it is obvious without an icon where the MG is located. Then do your area fire by all means. Here my recon was by Apache and Scimitar AFV. The Scimitar is designed for Recon not to fight. Its strength is its speed. I lost one Scimitar but No2 was very successful. Apaches spot AFV's from the air the ATGM gave their position away by firing on the Scimitar No2.
  14. By observing for a few minutes with a minimum force for a few turns you get far more intel. If your briefing says recon do your recon. Depends what mission you receive, by all means follow the link of the YouTube channel. Do yourself a favor and watch some of it. A Captain who lectures tactics at the university of Iowa. Whatever I know I know from somebody else, and Captain DeLeon has some useful information. Normandy invasion and the bombardment prior the invasion we all know how effective it was to fire at an unseen enemy. I tested on Iron difficulty 155 mm shelling on a suspected MG 42 position in a building. 2 turns on heavy and when I approached the building the MG 42 was still active. What got rid of him was a direct contact of an infantry squad.
  15. Literacy in a Muslim society means citing the Al Quran in Arabic for them we are the illiterates. You don't find many military manuals in Muslim countries it is all written down in their Holy Book.
  16. @LongLeftFlankAFV stands for Armoured Fighting Vehicle. There is no such a thing as a poor leader. -1 and a veteran? He is more suited for spotting not to lead an assault. +2 suited for leading an attack. Spotting and recon for Veteran and above. I select - for leadership scouting is a lonely business.
  17. PIR: Priority Intelligence Requirements, The Acronym is SALUTE: Size of Enemy, Activity, Location, Time, Equipment. Enemy in a house is very like to be for observation. SALUTE is not my invention. Give you the link to learn some RL tactics. Captain DeLeon - YouTube
  18. I like something like video conferencing, possibly we can play hotseat with people we don't know personally. 60 turn game by PBEM can take over a month to complete. Like @purpheart23 pointed out opening ports with people you don't know? Is not the way to go.
  19. The Topic here is 'Leader's Recon.' One platoon is responsible to contact enemy units as outlined by the intel in the briefing. The quality is not great the leader is -1 the two scouts -2. The setup is as follows two scouts of squad alpha who must stay in contact with his platoon leader. He has the radio; the other two squads also send out two scouts to receive the intel from the scouts of alpha squad. Before I send them out, I plotted an artillery strike in the vicinity of suspected enemy positions. The FO will also be in contact with first platoon. To get confirmation or he can cancel the artillery strike. The scouts approached the open area from the 6 o'clock position and made contact. Units spotted two 88 mm FLAK and German infantry. Obstacles encountered barbed wire around the perimeter. I followed the procedures as out lined by. Captain DeLeon - YouTube
  20. The purpose of this topic is to point out what can happen when we receive a mission. In this case Hobarts Funnies in Battle for Normandy. On the picture is a deployed Vickers Machinegun on a universal carrier. Be aware once you take the Vickers from the universal carrier you can't put it back in the deployed condition. Not even in the 'Set Up Zone' before you start the game. Future mishaps I also will post here. If something like this happens to you feel free to add on this topic. Thank you and happy gaming.
  21. The FOW in Chess is the mind of your opponent that's why Hotseat is my favorite way to play. Long way to go before we can play the game over Skype or Zoom. A conference mode maybe possible in a few years.
  22. This is an example that an icon shouldn't be displayed on Iron. One of the crew survived and is in panic but reports the Syrian AFV whether we like it or not. I take @Freyberg point the game should be fun. Also, some settings are not for everyone. For the HQ of the Scimitar, he is MIA and whatever he spots shouldn't be displayed on Iron.
  23. The function of an army is to carry out the foreign policies of the country. The foreign policy was to be a major power in post war Europe. If you judge by body count than Omaha beach would be a major defeat for the US and a major victory for the Germans. The objective gained made it a decisive victory for the US. Back to the Soviets, their boss was Stalin for whom a million deaths is a statistic. According my sources Army Group Centre 800000 men was crushed and was for this the Soviets suffered 500000 combat casualties and brought the red army on German territory. Terrible figures but on this I base the fact that they were on par with the German army. They achieved their strategic and political objectives. The objective of an attack is to gain territory if the objective is the destruction of enemy forces than it becomes an assault. Operation Bagration was both.
  24. A very good point. You can always execute area fire anywhere you like. If you know there is a contact icon there, I can't see much point to recon by fire by the AFV. Then it is up to you to use the command-and-control network to ensure the AFV receives the contact marker. It is not hard open near an infantry unit which has the contact icon.
  25. This is great I like to have some book to use. This is the closest I have. Thank you very much for your efforts.
