Ah cool. In that case there would have been 3x HMGs in the rifle division's rifle regiment HQ... to serve as AA guns. In this case it would probably be best to leave them as specialist teams unless battlefront wants to add the rifle division's AA machine gun company. Not out of scope considering other divisional level units are included in the game such as recon companies, antitank battalions and sapper battalions

Fine not in Western Europe but they certainly would have been next. The point is that even peaceful and neutral countries are subject to random invasion by the Soviet Union.

I think that's the reason for the DShK only being available in the game as a specialist team, historically they weren't mass issued to Rifle Divisions or machine gun battalions. You can find pictures of them from WW2 in both tripod mounted AA roles and wheeled HMG roles, so they were used, but it was probably only for specialist teams instead of standard issue equipment.

PS: I'm pretty sure the DShK AA tripod and wheeled mount are actually the same mounting, the wheels and gunshield can be detached and the carriage converts into a AA tripod. From Forgotten Weapons. So the AA specialist teams could easily convert the gun for the HMG role depending on the need.

Yes, let's pretend 1939 didn't happen. Or I guess Poland attacked Russia first. And then Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. And even Finland attacked Russia.

I guess you get to occupy 1/6 of the landmass by being constantly invaded by everyone around you. Because everyone just wanted a piece of your precious Siberian eternal frost. I can just see how somebody in Warsaw thought "goddamn this warm weather in summer and fertile lands. That's it, Ogniezhka, we are capturing Yakutsk! Our kids will get to live in the swampy lebensraum!"

Woah sick! Long live PR! Down with HOG!

I had created a kashan desert map a little while back but gave up from lack of interest. I had it nearly completed minus the two airbases on opposite ends.
PR is hands down the best shooter ever made and it's incredible now that vehicles have more than 8 slots max. It's a shame it hasn't come back to life since Candy Van was shut down

The post seems to be uneditable? Whatever. Updated one of blue AI's plans and added a plan for red AI. The blue AI attacks quite aggressively when I tested it, but they don't destroy one of the AAs, so please disable it if playing red.
I still recommend playing only the blue side, any suggestions are welcome!

If you've played BF2:RP then you're probably familiar with this map, as it was my inspiration for the creation.
An American combined force trying to capture a harbor. Only the Russian AI has been completed so far (only one plan), so play BLUE only!

At this point I don't even consider the UXO DPICM situation worthy of argument. Very little, if any DPICM or general purpose cluster munitions are going to be used anywhere that Russia hasn't already placed hundreds if not thousands of AT and AP mines. Areas that will have to be demined post war ANYWAYS. Whatever unexploded DPICM remains will just be another part of the clean up.

For what it is worth, I just did a version check for Specialist Team DShK HMG, in the scenario editor.
CMRT v1.00 does not have the DShK team listed.
    CMRT v1.01 / 1.03 / 2.00 / 2.01 / 2.02 / 2.10 all have this DShK team available for purchase
CMRT v2.11 + current 2.12 do not have the DShK team listed.

And as side note: CMRT v2.11 + current 2.12 do not have the DP LMG team listed, which was available in all previous versions.

This was Rollbahn A on Saturday. Just returned from my first tour of the Ardennes provided by Leger, with the highly knowledgeable Paul https://www.legerbattlefields.co.uk/guides/paulerrington
It was fantastic for me to experience some of the battlefields first hand and compare with the scenario landscapes in Combat Mission. Will attempt to walk the ground before releasing campaigns when possible.

I've been watching a number of videos recently that have shown combat in the trenches from Ukrainian and Russian perspectives. I'm beginning to wonder if trenches are not more of a hindrance than a help to defenders. It seems that defenders in the trenches are trading maneuverability and situational awareness for increased cover. But to what advantage? Even though they have increased cover, they actually lose a fair bit of concealment as well. Sure, you cannot directly see a defender unless he pops his head up above the trench, but you where he's at and that he's not going far. Granted, the defenders have some degree of lateral movement within the trench, but that's it. The defender's maneuverability seems pretty restricted.
With the plethora of automatic weapons, large capacity magazines, grenades, and now drones. It just appears that what was a good idea during World War I may now be a deathtrap for defenders. Due to the loss of situational awareness for defenders, it just seems like the attackers are consistently able to close the distance to trenches and maneuver around above them fairly easily. The defenders in the trenches, on the other hand, seem limited to mostly unaimed fire whereby they are just raising their rifles above the trench, giving a short prayer, and then spraying in the general direction of the enemy. The assaulting troops are able to lay down well aimed suppression fire on suspected positions, close, and eliminate the threat? How often have we seen guys getting killed at point blank ranges as they have been forced to seek deeper and deeper cover in holes at the bottom of trenches?
Would a better option not be to have pickets forward of the trench lines? These pickets would actually form the main defense by giving enough warning for defending troops to actually leave the trenches and push forward toward the picket lines. Besides, why even dig trenches at all? Aren't they just a giant blinking neon sign to observation drones that says, "hey guys, our main line of defense is right here." Also the trenches just seem to be giant artillery magnets, and do they really help much against airburst artillery anyway?
In short, do defensive trenches give defending troops a false sense of security while actually robbing them of maneuverability and situational awareness while simultaneously compressing them into a tighter space that essentially becomes a kill box?
These are just some musings that I have. Who knows, maybe the trenches are also necessary because of the amount of thermal imaging on the battlefield these days. Maybe a better tactic would be dug in positions with defenders interspersed "out in the open" between them. Maybe a trench is just the best of many bad options when defending open areas where there are no tree lines or any other form of cover. I'm curious to hear your thoughts.
If trenches are a bad Idea, I advise the Russians to continue digging them.

My Bradley ran over an unexploded cluster munition after the ground war in Desert Storm. It did explode, but the only damage was to one of the rubber track pads. Having said that, I wouldn't want to step on one. It would probably remove or shatter a foot.

The map of southern flank of Kreminna sector, according to recent post of Mashovets. According to him, Russians intensified attacks here, likely having main objective to push off UKR troops to the line Serebrianka - Verkhniokamyans'ke in order to eliminate at last potentialy dangerous Bilohorivka salient, which UKR troops can use as bridgehead of advansing to Rubizhne, Lysychansk and Siverodonetsk.
In recent weeks Russians have been conducting many probes and attack in this area, espesially from Dibrova - Kuzmyne line and they could push UKR behind main forestal cut-through, passing from west to east. It happened again during rotation, when 100th TD brigade substituted previous troops. But since this local success Russians couldn't advance anymore. Now is next attempt.
On the video 54th TD battalion of 100th TD brigade (of Volyn' oblast) repels Russian attack
