Sure isn't perfect. And indeed CMx3 with new graphics would be very welcomed!
Personally I don't have much issue with the 'paid upgrade policy'. Basically it's a choice between BFC not putting work into upgrading old titles, or they do work upgrading old title and work needs payment unless people volunteer.
What I do hope is that in the future CMx3 will be 'one family', instead of many different ones each with their own patches etc.
I regularly took breaks from CM due to Real Life or just wanting to play something new. But always come back to it and like you during corona PBEM is ideal for a lunchbreak.
Only thing is that if work is busy and my head is full of work, PBEMs can be too 'active' for a break. Overload 🤣

I don't think there's much benefit to pre-order.  And I will pre-order the very minute it opens.  😀

its a shame we can't have some way of saving that status of the battle once its over, like condition and status of all units etc, and the status of the map, so if you wish to keep on fighting or making multiple scenarios with a cascade affect etc without having to make a campaign.

and a list to some degree of the casualties per unit etc. is always something i like to see in detail. in similar fashion as done by close combat games.

Wego because of what Mike Churchmoor just wrote. He hit each of the reasons quite well. If I want an RTS, there are a lot out there. If I want a carefully researched, high fidelity combat simulation game, there's CM.

    1. WeGo because I'm used to it.

    2. WeGo because winning the game is not related to my reflexes in any way.

    3. WeGo because of replay possibility.

    4. WeGo because my multiplaying sessions are pbem only (lack of free time ).

I've heard several people saying they miss all the action in rt. They like the cinematic quality. Sometimes it's nice to sit back and see how your plan worked.

    How?
It doesn't cost any more and if it means Steve & Co. have a bit of 'fluidity' to make things happen, I'm all for it.....Christ I pre-ordered that POS Cyberpunk 2077 so whingeing about Battlefront's pre-orders would be downright churlish.

Speculatively, it would not surprise me if a detailed data output tool feature was implemented for the MoD version (given the requirement for post evaluation & analysis in mil training exercises). Does not mean the community will get it though - rather sounds like the very thing Steve refers to in his OP:

its a must for a realistic war setting, it was important to have random spreading fire in CMBO, important and accurate

In CM1 you could import your final turn into the editor and add fresh units for a sequel.....Damage to the map, wrecked vehicles were all preserved.  IIRC fires went out though (but it was easy enough to start a new one).

A feature to consider for engine upgrades is the command delay of CM1 being reinstated as an optional setting.

Both superbly produced books though a little limited in their scope, they are ideal for the dedicated modeller as the detail in the photos is just fantastic. I think the key is to sign up to publisher and bookseller email lists to get a heads-up on when these types of titles are coming out, that way one can get in quick and avoid disappointment.
That's just downright silly. Over time these kind of books do become rare and expensive but what I've also noticed is that prices tend to level out and fall back a bit. I purchased a couple of books some time ago from Remy Spezzano/RZM and for a time their prices were silly but when I went to sell one of them I found the price had fallen back somewhat, though still a bit inflated. Incidentally I think he still has these two for sale on his web store - good investment pieces.

Great, a third title is something to look forward to, and a reprint is worth waiting for, at least you’re more likely to pay only max cover price then rather than an inflated fleabay price.
Well kinda, it’s good for kudos, but they don’t usually benefit financially since the inflated prices are usually charged by secondhand dealers or the odd book seller that realises they can make a quick, extra profit. Having worked in the book industry for many years I know that most publishers work on very slim margins, niche publishers even more so. They are probably just looking to build the numbers while the cover price will either be the same or with an increase for inflation. Enough people making enough noise will spur them on to reprint. Either way it’s worth waiting for the reprints.
