circling back to our old pal Stalin -- did y'all know he even murdered the genius that designed the diesel engine for the T34?   I mean, he was killing everyone

And then Stalin did everything possible to wreck that huge military.  Killed all the officers.  Forced them to defend dense, highly vulnerable forward lines.  Continually gave idiot "no retreat" and "attack at once" orders with no idea what he was doing.  So Soviet Union should have been ready for war, but losing 3.3 million men in three months rather says something different.
If Stalin hadn't killed most of his officers and if the armed forces were used with even marginal competence, then Germany would've been lucky to get to Smolensk. The Russians had numbers but were controlled by an utterly anti-competent lunatic.

Very true, but I’d break that down further and say that not all of Normandy is bocage either so really one can have the experience one finds most interesting.

oh, three cromwells.  I thought that's what would be in a troop.  Not much for the task at hand.  You are making this battle sound fun!  I am thinking about unpacking this battle from the campaign and giving myself more cromwells and armored cars.
Good luck and thanks for the continuing updates

It seems like I didn't get punished for losing the first one, so I might continue on w this campaign sometime.  If you try to win this you'll probably get awfully chewed up.  Unless lots of cromwells.  Anyone know how many cromwells show up?
Good luck Bluecher.  I actually had my main force moving to the center left, where on your picture it says "phase line goose".  I was bypassing the german armor.  It's a long walk but was pretty easy up to the point where I quit.  Maybe there was stiff opposition ahead, maybe not?  I got to the open field w very minimal casualties (where your map shows "(30 pts)"

That was my experience also.  And at the end it showed that we were even in men.  But the germans were in stout buildings w MG 42s and artillery support.  Would be great fun with more armor & men, though the casualties would be high.

Well, then, I do stand corrected.  If I'm not punished for not winning that first one I'll definitely go on.  I was a tad hasty in my earlier comments I think.  I was mostly just tweaked about having used up my weekend playing time on it.

When they came out w modern stuff I thought "oh, not my favorite, why didn't they do more WW2 first?".  then I bought & played SF2.  Holy f*&k is that a fun game.

I agree to all this.  I still do that on car trips.  I bike to work and picture AT guns and tanks and infantry battling along the bike path & streets.  And to Markshot's point, yes, this is chess.  History chess.  Chess that's more open ended and lots more fun.

Going back to the title of this thread.  this module is worth buying because it's FUN.   I've been doing the scenarios in alphabetical order since I installed R2V, playing against AI.  These are good solid battles -- Italy probably isn't the first choice of very many combat mission buyers but the fighting in Italy was intense and diverse and complicated and the scenarios reflect that well.  Now fighting as Free French, Dec 1943, east of Cassino w wet snow on the ground, fog & rain.  good times.  And when BFC does go back to N Africa (like in 2024?) they do have some of the gear built out.
Family heading to big city today for shopping so I am alone for R2V battles; nice NFL triple header schedule on in the background, cold & raining hard outside -- perfect day.

In this holiday season, let us all remember that we are just grown men (mostly men?) playing w little army men and toy tanks.  No one is right or wrong in which army men they want.

ohhhh, that battle.  Yeah, I lost badly first time.  Then added 6 more shermans and some halftracks and played again -- I won't call it cheating, I'll call it regrouping and getting reinforcements.  And it was still a rough fight.  Italian terrain certainly favors the defender.

I suppose the way to do it at this point is to do east Front (or if one prefers Russians, I guess that would be west front) 1943, then 1942, then 1941.  That way each module has the minimum new OOBs.  Get 'em out the door w 80-90% of the stuff available in theater and I'd be plenty OK.  Heck, I'll pre-pay for that right now.
Then head for sunny N Africa.  Then make new game engine.  Then start back over again w Normandy.  That's my dream for BFC.
Oh, and in between all that they have to make new modules for the modern games.  Dang, they'll be busy.

Of course there's always the domestic audience factor to consider also.  We always think foreign policy moves are actually about foreign policy.  Sometimes it's for domestic consumption.  Putin could do this because it makes him look tough and nationalistic to his own people, upholds russian pride, etc.  He could do it because Russian people think they are being disrespected and he needs to stand up to the west to keep his tough guy image.

I am confused as to why pricing is an issue.  If you want the products when first introduced, you pay the opening price.  Same w lots of other games, same w books, same w DVDs & streaming movies.  It's normal.   Then later price might drop, or product bundled w other stuff.
The games are expensive because are a specialty product, lovingly hand crafted by a small group of organic sustainably sourced artisans holed up.... well, somewhere.  and last time my son bought Call of Duty it was $60 (bought w my money).   These games are not commodity items.  I can't just get it somewhere else, like buying pepsi over coke because it's on sale.
Just speaking for myself here, but I am OK w pre-order of new CMRT module.  Where do I sign up?  I look at CM preorder as a kind of crowdfunding.  Others will disagree, and I totally get that, so can choose to not preorder.
