A great book. My copy had a card in it with a picture of the editor Winston G. Ramsey, and at the bottom it stated "I promise to protect your privacy and not pass on your details to any other organisation". Ah, we were all so much younger then. Nowadays it would read, "if you show any interest in our products, we will sell your details to all and sundry".

A very interesting read. And it will come as no surprise to some of you, that drinking booze whilst gaming got an early mention.

Warts 'n' all reacted to Erwin in CMFB BUG - "DISMOUNTED" JEEP WITH PASSENGERS - BUT UNABLE TO MOVE JEEP, (OR DISMOUNT OR BAIL OUT)
Warts may have hit on the answer.  The Jeep in question is in a set-up zone and one can mount inf units and acquire ammo.  But, one cannot DISMOUNT or BAIL OUT.  One has to use a movement order to get the inf unit out.  The puzzle is that the Jeep is set-up initially with an inf unit (2-man FO) on board.
Perhaps the crew was KIA in the previous mission and/or the Jeep was immobilized.  But it is some sort of bug that something weird is happening here.  Doesn't spoil the game, so no biggy...

It seems not in this case, as it was outside the set-up zone.  But generally this is a great thing to do (or at least it feels great 😉).  And having 'too much' ammo is not a problem for our super-truppen.

It would be good if someone made some "new release" videos of the same quality that we used to get from ChrisND, for this battle pack.

Meanwhile it was doctrine for the Soviets which is why it was added in CMRT.
Riding on tanks in non combat was fairly common for the western allies but only the Soviets planned, intended and specified from on high to do it during combat. I'm sure someone can quote an example where that happened on the western front but it was very atypical. Hence it was not in CMBN. I'm not sure why CMFB gets it other than we all asked for it 🙂  Re-doing all the models in CMBN would be a large task - large testing task mostly - so it has not been undertaken.

@rvseydlitz you'll find that the Western Allies can tank ride in CMFB.  In 'Real Life' I'm sure it happened in CMBN 'areas/dates' but maybe not so much.

I had even worst spotting experience (and I'm probably not the only one). In at least one mission of the "Scottish Corridor" campaign, after neverending turns of spotting, the spotter finally FFEed in a location which had absolutely NOTHING to do with the area initially requested... At least he didn't fire on friendly troops!
CMBN terrain is generally very unfavorable for FOs (poor and short line of sights).

If the wind is blowing things get worse. Pay attention to which direction the grass is waving. Though trying to compensate by plotting my mission 'upwind' rarely gets the desired results.

A caller can call artillery slightly out side their LOS - over a hill for example. So, no they do not need to see the ground impact. They do have to see something so your original suggestion of see the explosion effects are likely true. My guess is its more of an abstraction than actually see the displaced ground in the air.
However if the spotting round falls too far away or behind other obstructions then additional spotting rounds will be called in. As per what @Ultradave is talking about.
This is why if your FO has crappy key holed visibility it will take longer for FFE because the have to wait for something to land where they can see it to give direction. As per @MikeyD
My experience makes it seem pretty reasonable overall. If your FO has great visibility the spotting to FFE proceeds quickly and smoothly. If your FO has poor or spotty visibility it takes longer. If your FO has really bad or no visibility then it can even never resolve.

Not sure what you mean. How may the designer have any influence on the FO spotting performance (apart from leadership and training level settings)?

I've found myself trapped in a cycle of spotting round... spotting round... spotting round... out of sight of the FO. I've had to scamper him into a better position to spot the impact to get the mission to commence.

ahhhh, Balkoski!  Excellent, I think I might need to do a re-read myself, thanks for that note.
Like Warts, I have tons of RT & Downfall still to play but work has been rather all consuming for quite a while now, though will slow down to normal pace soon.  But I loooooooooove Normandy campaign and can't wait to get this.  I've got a week off coming up end which is one week too early, dang it.

I've got such a backlog of FB and RT to play, I don't think I'll be buying this until Christmas or even next year.

Have found it wise to wait at least until the first patch to avoid replaying games.
