CM WWII: Are tanks "overpowered"?
MOS:96B2P replied to Kaunitz's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
I think the below is how it works. To close assault a tank troops must exit the building. However grenades and demo charges are thrown from the upper floors on to open topped vehicles. -

The Advantages and Negatives of Opening Up
MOS:96B2P replied to CanuckGamer's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
You covered it pretty well. IMO a unit to map size ratio that allows the player room to maneuver his units and make decisions has a lot of potential and is generally a fun, interesting scenario. Low intensity scenarios are usually easy to use with this concept. The January 2020 Bones post said Red Thunder is getting Partisans, Waffen SS and Master Maps that cover huge swaths. So some really cool possibilities that might fit the small unit scenarios set on large maps that @Anson Pelmet and others are looking for. -
CMRT has roving aircraft which are not controlled by the player for both the Germans and the Soviets. You can purchase aircraft on the QB purchase screen or use the editor to include them in a scenario but once you start the game they will do their own thing. All other CM titles have air strikes directed by the player (despite what the game and engine manual advise).

And below is a link to the older Mods site. All the content is in the process of being moved to the new site (which is linked above by @Commanderski) however a lot of mods are still at the older site. Have fun. http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/ -

+1. Nice.

If the tank is still operational the crew will switch positions to keep fighting the tank. One of the biggest disadvantages to the TC getting killed in WW2 titles is the binoculars are lost with him. His replacement will try to do the same job minus the binoculars. IIRC they can fight most tanks with only two crew members. A driver and gunner. After they get down to two men they will no longer open the TC's hatch to spot since there is no longer anyone in that position. Another disadvantage to the Track Commander (TC) getting KIA is he is often the platoon or company commander. If both the CO and XO are KIA you will loose C2 for that unit.

PANZERFAUST !!! Soviet tanks breakthrough the forward positions and make it into town however most of their infantry was left behind. The detail ............ very cool. Cool game.

+1. Nice analysis. One of the problems that players will point out is the lack of persistent map damage. The battle damage that occurred to the town of La Gleize, in the first scenario, will not be present in the following scenarios unfortunately. But given the tools at hand your suggestions are probably the best way to turn the scenario into a campaign (if that is what @theforger decided to do). This is an interesting scenario that has given me several scenario ideas. IMO it is interesting to have a company size combined arms force on a huge map that allows maneuver. The combination of a huge map and a relatively small force can help to give an operational feel to a scenario. This also can provide many interesting command decisions for the player as he works multiple missions / situations on the same huge map. But a few more screenshots from Mission to Maas......... These things are deadly in overwatch.......... go ahead shoot at my two man scout team

+1. THAT is cool. I wonder if the commander was inside during the crossing or maybe just the driver took it across while the remainder of the crew acted as ground guides .

Best scenarios of the WWII CM2's
MOS:96B2P replied to Commanderski's topic in Combat Mission - General Discussion
There are so many................ But I'll mention one I just happened to re-visit lately. CMRT Der Ring Der 5 Panzer Division. It was made by @George MC. The map is a work of art and is the size of a master map. Anything by George MC or @Combatintman is quality work along with many other scenario designers. If you haven't played Der Ring Der 5 Panzer Division, I recommend it. Edit: For campaigns CMRT KGr von Schroif is excellent. It comes with tactical maps in a zip file so the player can print out the maps and use them for planning and SitMaps. There is also a table displaying the unit, commanders and their soft factors. A PDF file briefing handbook consisting of 133 pages comes with the campaign. The PDF handbook contains a campaign flowchart, graphics, tables, symbol keys, historical information etc. Very cool, detailed, immersive stuff with this one. Also created by @George MC. The below link is for the campaign. https://www.thefewgoodmen.com/tsd3/cm-red-thunder/cm-red-thunder-campaigns/kampfgruppe-von-schroif-cmrt-campaign/ -

+1. THIS! We had a 1/4 ton (jeep) in our unit (313th MI / 82nd Abn.) in the 1980s that was re-built twice from roll-over accidents. In the 82nd we would have said the troops were highly motivated not pissed ...... but same results as far as equipment I suppose... -

+1. Interesting table. It says km/h but what does that mean in actual game terms? So a Kubel on normal movement speed (Move) does 16 on a paved road. I'm guessing that means 16 action spots per one minute turn? So 16 a/m (Action spots per minute). -

[scenario] Karapulka's crossing
MOS:96B2P replied to Zveroboy1's topic in CM Black Sea Maps and Mods
You linked the correct mod. In the screenshot I'm using Blimey's Ukrainian Separatist Mod v1. I like the "no helmet" look of Blimey's mod. He has two Separatist mods. One Ukrainian and one Russian. I should probably use the Russian Separatist mod but I just tagged the scenario to use the UK Separatist mod I have in my Mod folder for the scenario Tactical Operations Center (TOC). All the mods look cool I just think the no helmet look gives more of a paramilitary feel to it. What might be even better is if some of the troops had helmets and some didn't. A few dirty bandaged faces also......... -

Interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing. I will sometimes use Slow with a tight target arc for entering a building when I think the next building (behind the one being entered) contains OpFor). -

The smoke screen was still forming so the upper floor of that building was not yet blocked by smoke when the screenshot was taken. Below is a screenshot of the tank that won the bottle of schnapps. On the right you can see the roof of the building through the smoke. A marksman on the back of the Panther is still keeping an eye on it .
