  1. Interesting table. Besides the unexpected results between Hunt and Move is that faster vehicles are not noticeably faster until you get to Quick and Fast. This is useful information when you have a group of mixed vehicle types moving down a road or through a choke point. As long as you are not using Quick or Fast your jeeps will not overtake your heavy armor. On Move, Slow & Hunt they will all travel at the same speed (If no track damage etc..). I did an experiment last year on the fitness of troops and how the different movement speeds effected this soft factor. While doing this experiment I noticed that Hunt was faster than Move. This was in CMFI but I just did a quick check in CMFB and the results were the same. In the CMFB experiment I took two US administratively split assault teams from from their squads (first split A-Team). I lined then up on flat, level, open terrain and gave one team Hunt and the other team Move and let them go for three minutes. The team on Hunt won the inter-company speed competition . Since my original experiment was for fitness levels I had the troops traveling at long distances for many minutes and the speed differences became more apparent with time. Three minutes showed it nicely. Since your movement for troops shows no difference between Hunt and Move I wonder how long you let them travel? Maybe the team on Hunt just didn't have time to take a noticeable lead? Thanks for making this table and sharing it. I never understood the mixed vehicle convoy / choke point application until I looked at your table.
  2. Well, now you've gone and done it. Claiming that he was not yet at the LZ and the milk carton thing WAS just his cover story................ I wanted to Blast into the back of the compound as you did but from the IPB I falsely concluded that since the compound wall was on an angle and not flat against the side of the building I would need a second Blast to get inside the building. It seems one Blast got you through the wall and into the building, suppressing the OpFor inside. Very nice job. I also noticed (I think) that you used Hunt to enter the buildings after a Blast. I used Slow but was surprised how well Hunt seemed to work for you. Although I think your one friendly KIA came during a building entry? What background radio sound mod did you use? You may like @Vein base marker mod. It changes the red X to a blood spot and works in all CM titles. In my screenshots above (might a page back) you can see it. Nice job and great video. ///////////////////////////////// SPOILER ////////////////////////////////////////// Slim, you might find the following interesting. During the Exfil, I was unsure about the distance that I needed to engage the OpFor. I didn't want to start fire fights if they could be avoided. So I used 360o Target Arcs and took a guess at their size. After the mission I did some testing in clear conditions night combat and learned that stationary infantry with no NVG were able to detect, with a verified contact (since the AI does not shoot at tentative contacts) moving OpFor from 18 meters to 28 meters. So, in theory, against a non equipped NVG AI if you stay more than 28 meters away and don't reveal your position by shooting they will not fire on you. I tested this in both CMSF and CMFB. Combatintman, thanks for the great scenario.
  3. That's a good point. It would be interesting to know the experience level of the aircraft.
  4. Good idea reference keeping an eye on the AI QB picks. With six AAA units all shooting with the leadership and experience they had I would have expected you to do much better against the aircraft. For a moment it crossed my mind that maybe something was changed in engine 4.0 but I see we are in CMFI in this thread which is still (to my great impatience) at engine 3. In CMFI when playing as the Germans I normally take one, sometimes two, 20mm Flak and do fairly well against aircraft. I can't explain it at this point except to say very bad luck and very frustrating.....................
  5. That is frustrating and has made me cuss at the monitor. AAA will shoot down OpFor aircraft. When they are successful red text will briefly appear next to the AAA vehicle that hit the aircraft that reads: Aircraft Destroyed. There is normally a large explosion of the aircraft crashing to the ground along a map edge. AAA units shoot at aircraft on their own. Even a Target Arc will not stop them from shooting at aircraft. The better the experience and leadership level of your AAA unit the better the chance of destroying OpFor aircraft. What is the experience and leadership of your AAA units? Just curious, how do you know what kind of aircraft the OpFor has?
  6. Nice work. Thanks for the AAR. In CMBN CMRT & CMFI airburst rounds must be requested during during pre-planned or in range of a TRP to work. CMFB has VT equipped assets that can fire airburst rounds anytime with or without a TRP.
  7. Only because your answer was much more comprehensive than mine. Your quality over my speed. But I still won .
  8. There is no follow command. However use of the Pause command will help. 2nd vehicle 10 second Pause, third Vehicle 20 Second Pause etc. Yes but the tank must also have a movement order first. Infantry will dismount as soon as the tank stops moving. So if the tank takes fire and stops before the end waypoint the infantry will dismount and attempt to continue on their own. Not really. The game manual (not engine manual) explains some things in general. I suspect you are looking for more specifics than that. I make a test map, in the scenario editor, and inspect it. Also trial and error. IMO a combined arms approach is the best. Start small and work your way to larger battles/units keeping the combined arms mix and probably whatever your favorite nationality is. Then branch out into the others as you get comfortable with the favorite one. Most of the drills are transferable. Ask a lot of questions on the forum. Welcome to the forum!!
  9. There are different opinions of course. My opinion is play Iron. It is not a harder skill level in the traditional sense. It actually gives you more information about your friendly units and their situational awareness. The manual is not as clear as it could be on the subject which I think leads to some misunderstandings about how Iron works. Below is a link to a discussion on skill level iron.
  10. Okay, I see what I did. After reading the manual I thought all Humvees with the Mk19 and .50 Cal. could be dismounted and the weapon taken with. But I see now it only applies to a very specific area of the TOE: Infantry Battalion / Weapons Company / Assault Platoon / Standard. (I failed to select standard earlier when I was looking). I also noticed that when the crew dismounts they receive a duplicate Mk19 or .50 Cal. for the time they are dismounted. The original weapon was still visible on the vehicle. So out of curiosity I mounted a rifle scout team in the Humvee and they were able to drive the Humvee and shoot the Mk19. Probably gamey behavior but it did work . Thanks for the help akd.
  11. Go to your profile page. Click on your profile name (upper right corner). In the drop down menu click on Settings. Click on Signature.
  12. Normally, in CMBN, a HQ can call in most artillery assets. But a few of the heavy artillery assets and air support need an FO.
  13. Ask all the questions you want. That is one of the reasons the forum is here. It is fun trying to figure this stuff out. Just FYI while we're on the topic you don't need C2 to call in arty. It is sometime referred to as the field telephone abstraction. What you do need is an officer that has artillery calling privileges. What type of HQ team do have that is attempting to call and is the officer in the team still alive? What type of howitzer unit is he trying to request? Also if the HQ team is moving (in all titles accept CMBS) the HQ team will drop off the net during movement. It sometimes takes a minute or so to come back up on the net.
  14. I found four Humvee equipped assault platoons in an Infantry Battalion / Weapons Company. The platoon commander's Humvee in each platoon may have an Mk19, M2 or M240B which can be selected at the bottom of the purchase screen. So I selected Mk19s and M2s and placed them on the map. I could not find any stowed Mk19s or M2s. I played around for awhile with Acquire, Bailout, Dismount, checked special equipment area etc. nothing. Am I looking in the wrong place in the TOE?
  15. Hey Shorker!! Nice video. Steve talked about CMSF about four months ago. Not sure if you saw it so I included the link below.
  16. I noticed in the CMBS game manual (not the engine manual) that on page 53 it states the crew of a Humvee can dismount and take the vehicle's Mk19 or .50 Cal. with them. I tried this and was not able to make it work. I'm guessing the manual is wrong? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong? Any clarification would be great.
  17. @Ithikial_AU the OP has a question for you. That should get his attention.
  18. This is interesting. @Mark_McLeod not sure if you thought of this. Maybe get CMFB & CMRT. You would be able to fight on both fronts this way for about the same price. You will eventually end up buying them all anyways.
  19. The following are my notes from an experiment I did on the different types of ammo carried in a vehicle. It in part covers your question. The ammo count listed on top in one color* is for the vehicle’s weapons systems. The ammo count listed on the bottom in a different color is the extra supply ammo that can be Acquired by troops. If the vehicle’s ammo runs out the vehicle will take ammo from the extra supply. The crew ammo is listed on the left under unit info panel / ammo. A vehicle will not take crew or passenger ammo. Crew and passengers can’t Acquire vehicle ammo. All can take or Acquire extra supply ammo. Example: A tank crew could Bailout, Acquire .50 cal. ammo and re-crew their tank. The tank would however not be able to use the .50 cal. ammo. Or a halftrack could run low on .30cal ammo for the machinegun, take .30cal ammo from the extra supply and use it. *The color of the ammo counts can be different depending on which Combat Mission title you are playing.
  20. @IICptMillerII has a good workaround which I also use. The permanent Pause order.
  21. Actually, you spend a lot of time turning out first class scenarios and campaigns. Thank you.
  22. 1983 to 1987. I was in the 313 Military Intelligence Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. My military occupational specialty (MOS) was military intelligence analyst (that's where my handle came from). My avatar is the crest of the 313 MI Bn.
  23. I just did a quick test in thick haze with a US Shadow and Grey Eagle. I was not impressed. The Shadow was shot down by a Tungusta as usual. The Grey Eagle spotted maybe two out of every 10 OpFor vehicles. What surprised me was that it spotted stationary vehicles while it did not spot OpFor vehicles dashing about in the open. You might want to do your own test but if the fight is in thick haze I think I would spend the points on Abrams.
