  1. Or it could be the Nebelwerfers just hit a truck! Looking forward to whenever Battlefront to Kursk so we can have Stukas. Germans liked to mass them when attacking towns, strongpoints. I reckon a good size Stuka airstrike on that town would look pretty spectacular.
  2. Oh no, not the SS Das ReichZombie Division! :-) Speaking of Das ReichI would really like to see CM Russian Front 1943. 3rd Kharkov, Kursk, Mius River, Dnieper River. There must be a game and a couple of expansions there now Battlefront have got the winter warfare and mid war German models. This series could end just before Bagration with the Soviet attempt to invade Roumania in spring 1944
  3. The early war blitzkriegs were no walkovers and certainly casualties were high. 100000 in Poland for example. The divisions who had seen service in these campaigns would certainly be experienced and in some cases veteran particularly the Panzers. However I don't thnk the German army reached its peak until the late summer of 1941 or even summer 1942 and then began a decline. Certain Waffen SS Divisions such as Das Reich and Liebstandarte I would only give elite ratings for late 1442 and early 1943 until the end of 3rd Kharkov. At Kursk I would probably only give their Panzers such hgh experience ratngs as their Panzergrenadiers took on large numbers f replacements prior to Kursk though there was time to train them up and incorporate them into their units. I would give them very good leaders and very high morale at this time though. In Normandy I would start Hitler Jugend off with high morale and good leaders but only experienced as they were well trained but lacking combat experience. After the first couple of weeks I would bump up the experience and keep morale high but reduce strengths.
  4. Looking forward to gaming Anzio. General Lucas was I think much maligned. His decision not to try to grab Rome right after the landing was the right one although he could have grabbed the Alban Hills as a better defensive position. But is there any chance of extending the time frame slightly to the end of June 1944 to cover German reargaurd actions like ths signiicant action. Would be good to get the Indian and Gurkha divisions into a futur expansion in addition to the Free French and Morroccan Goums.
  5. A few questions about the dforthcoming |Gustav Line module which I hope to see available in the very near future (hint hint ) 1 Will the British include options for the Indan Divisions, Canadians, Polish and South Africans? Free French would be nice at some point including their Morroccan units 2 Would it be possible to slightly extend the end datr to the end of June or into July to allow for the pursuit to the Arno and the associatedGerman reargaurdactions such as Lake Trasimene End date might be the end of July as the Allies approach the Gothic Line
  6. Love Russian Front. Bagration to end of war is great but what about earlier war series eg 3rd Kharkov, Kursk to Spring 1944 and Barbarossa to Stalingrad? And maybe at some stage early war Blitzkrieg. You could do the Polish campaign, France, Desert War and Balkans theatre including Crete. This would be nice but not a priority for now
  7. [ Interesting idea. And/or asssocite that with an operational windoow with unit positions represented by military symbols on a battlefield map so you can get an overall view of the battlefield position at any given point of time. That woud be a great planning aid.
  8. 1 Bigger battlefields preferably 8000 or 12000 meters allowing for large scale tank battles 2 Ability to shoot down enemy aircraft 3 Chemical Weapons capability and NBC suits. Option to set MOPP at the sart of the game based on chemical threat assessment. Scenario designer can set the probability that chemicals will be used. For instance levels could be None, Minimum, Low, high, in use. The game can use this to calculate whether chenical weapons will be used. Obviously this would in reality be a Russian capability, not a NATO option. 4 Weathe. Option to g for either a smmer campaigbn or a winter war instead of limiting us to a hree month period.
  9. There were soome issues in the original CMSF but easily fixed py thepatches and expansions. Now the only problems are 1 Would like more nations involved eg France,IDF, Turkey 2 Would like the weather, months etc opened up to allow battles at differentseasons I doubt we will will get any of this of course
  10. Well that's one way for a Stryker to stop a tankthough usually it's better to dismount theinfantrywithJavelins,LAWS and a plentiful supply ofgrenades incaseall else fails
  11. Drones and actualaircraft/helicopters in CMSF would benice,as would being able to shoot them down. It was possible to shoot down aircraft inthe old CM so, at least in theory it ought to be possible now.Jets might well be very hard to shoot downover the battle area because of their speed and other defences but drones/helicopters can be much easiertargets. And,of course, with helicopters one could do proper airmobile assaults with actual helicopter models coming into land and troops dismounting directly onto the ground or being able touse a "Rapell" command when low enough. Usefulpotential softwarebase for any futuregames covering other modern conflicts suchas.of course, Vietnam
  12. In regard of buildings,do they have a European look (houses with sloped roof) or do we have to stick with Middle Eastern flat roofs which would somewhat spoil the European experience. Obviously urban apartment blocks are not an issue but typical suburban dwellings etc would be.
  13. You asked for it.The Doctor Strangelove Award for finallly working out how to close the Mineshaft Gap!
  14. Canadian leg infantry sections are weak (4 men) asopposed to 8man sections in the Mech infantry. To be fair though I don't usually play Canadians but when I play Germansinfantry losses canbe high in any terrain makingunitscombat ineffective quite quickly.Usingtwosections in a building assault mightbeone option. You might also be tryingto do too muchwiththe limited manpower available toyou.Perhaps concentrating a greater mass of force to clear a specific sector and using IFV firepower to try to suppress the building you want to close assault and adjoining buildfings. Ifyou have explosive charges youcan try blasting your wqay into a building.Anotheroption,if youcan get onto a roof of a building is to clear it from the roof down rather than ground up
  15. Drone recon could easily be simulated using the intel strength. If a program could be written to allow intel to continue to be provided as the battle develops assuming your intel strength is over, say 70%. Certainfactors could modify that eg strength of air defences.BothBlue and Red could be allowed athe possibility ofpre engagement intel
  16. Could be a good reflection of a possible post civil war Syria worstcase,Central government has fallen and the rebels have split intofacttions.Kind of like 1980s Lebanonwrit large. You would bemore likelytohave somearmouredvehiclesrunningtheneithercapturedbyrebels or serving in rump elements oftheSyrian army.USand NATO units could be involved here as peace keepers.Noneed for a modbut thiscould be a great little campaign.
  17. I think it is a good way to simulat TECHINT (eg UAV))andHUMINTplus any pre attack ground recon. The higher a scenario designer sets early intel themore succesful intelligence gatheringwas. It would beinterestingto see what a high intel setting does andhow terrainaffects this. Fromwhat Combatintman says buildings appear to be quite effective at concealing fromintel. From the scenarios Ihave been working onclearterrain gives quitea lotofintel. However, since my intelsettingsare quitelow compared towhatcoouldbedone and terrain is quite openthe information I get is good on a lot of positioning but little on the nature ofthe troop typesholding a location. If I were to set the intel level to, say 80% I might have a lot more information on troop types as well. This assumes use of the Iron difficultylevel which istheone Inormallyplay on these days.
  18. Sinister Asiatic/Russian commiehordes are ALWAYS the bad guys :-) ActuallyI don't think the backstory really matters that much and there area number of options you could have varying from a Ukranian Civil War with NATO coming inas peacekeepers toanArcLight style situation Anyway, for NATO I would like both heavy and light forces withall the western nations available in CMSF now plus some additional expansions covering Polish, French etc. What would be great if youcan do it is to make the game compatible with CMSF so you couldimport/export forcesfrom either eg CMSF NATO Germans to CMSF 2 OR CMSF 2 Russians to CMSF 1.May be an interface could be developed similar in style to theNormandyPatch.Thesame patchmightopen up the year.month and weather inCMSF1 to bring it uptodate and allow us to cover the Syrian Civil War.Oh and larger mapsfor tankbattles, abilitytoshoot down aircraft etc. Wellit wouldbenice to have if you can do it:-)
  19. You can't phyasically fire chemical weapons in CMSFbut you could simulate an environment where they might be or have been used Chemical weapons would probably not be used against US troops by a nation like Syria due to the likely pre war threats, possibly unspecified buthinting about nuclear retaliation (goodnight Damascus) However the threat of chemical weapons use is still there and NBC suits are still going to be hotanddifficult to operate so you could simulate them by rating troops wearing them as Unfit. You could also do things like reducing leader ratings to simulate command and control problems.Maybe also downgrade experience and motivation particularlyif persistant chemicalshave been used in this area. What you do as the scenario designer is up to you.
  20. I'd like to see the Commonwealth expansion to CMFI before Christmas/early in the new year. Theproblem with Sicily is the shortduration of thecampaign which only lasted some 6 weeks.A Commonwealth expansion could rectify this by extending into the early phase of the invasion of theItalian mainland (Salerno and the advance through Southern Italy towards the Gustav Line ending as the Allies approach these positions, say October 1943. That would give us many more scenario options than the current Sicilian campaign.
  21. I would prefer to still have the current purchasing option available but, if BF were to bring in an additional purchase option overr and above that this would be finewith me! Looking forward to seeing Bagration (a BF return to ze Russian Front is long overdue) and CMSF 2 (ultra modern tank battles between NATO and Russia in an Eastern European setting are very appealing as hypothetical scenariosInteresting possibilities for Red versus Red and Blue versus blue)
  22. True, you may know enemy contact is imminent and youmay know this in reality from human intelligence, drone recon etc. That information is passed down to you after analysis at headqaurters/ What youprobably don't know is exact enemy locations rthough limited information might be allowed for and is availablr. It is probably best to be cautious witth your recon elements, Using the terrain carefully is probably the best way to ensure recon survives and can be used to best effect - which of course is easoer said than done - which is why the recon boys get the danger money Don't forget you can always dismount crews and do a little foot recon with them. Infantry seem somewhat harder to spot. And you can get them to crawl forward using the slow order. In cocealing terrain they are so much harder to spot. You still have to think about where the enemy might be and where you want to attack when your reinforcements arrive. Having a better idea of what the defences are before the main attack goes in helps you avoid nasty surprises, suppress thedefenders with artillery, place smoke etc
  23. What I would really like is a "Kursk" module covering sy the period November 1942 to May 1944 so you can cover engagements anywhere on the Russian front ranging fro actions during Operation Mars, the encirclement of Stalingrad.German relief attempts, 3rd Kharkov,Kursk itself, 4th Kharkov, the retreat to the Dnieper and the winter battles associated with the defence of that position and the spring 1944 Russian invasion of Roumania. Obviusly this would cover a longer period than the 3 months or so normally allowed for but the variety of terrain and armies would allow for many and variable scenario possibilities. Given the more open terrain of Russia it would be really good if we can have options for game maps considerably larger than the 4km x 4 km maps. Two or three times that size would be great for battalion level tank battles - and larger maps in CMSF2 would be a smart move since that is going to be set in the same part of the world
