CM Cold War takes place on the cusp of big changes happening to both the American and Soviet armies. The arrival of Abrams and Bradley changes the nature of the fight in Europe. Also in this time frame we get a fashion change! See attached, the Americans switching to battle dress uniform. This is new-new art that's still not in the current Beta so you won't see it in any of the posted screenshots. Please forgive my crappy graphics card.

Nice shot of the Sherman A4's diesel engine deck.
Tank riding is a good visual but, man, its an iffy tactic, especially in street fighting.

    It's Getting Bloody
I'm sad to report the Lieutenant @Hapless is no longer with us. He took a stray burst of machine gun fire observing the situation from his PzIV cupola. More on that shortly but first here's the current situation...

KG DoubleD and KG @Josey Wales have had their roles reversed. There are now at least 2x T34's covering Elvis' objective so sending across a bunch of armoured cars became a touch dicey. The two panzers from KG DoubleD is moving across to the far right of the map while the armoured cars take up positions to cover the north south main road in the centre right of the map. Honestly, I was incredibly shocked to see this road was open to quickly went to lock it down. A lend lease Sherman popped smoke and tried to cross but was taken out by the JzPzIV's.

A second Sherman appeared and the armoured cars with their 75mm guns opened fire. The rounds went slightly over it's head! The Sherman then methodically popped all four armoured cars from KG Josey Wales. Josey himself is alright but and is moving forward with the second half of his KG.

Meanwhile, KG @Bootie sends up an AT team to try and pop the Sherman but comes under fire. Well... that was close.

Meanwhile in the south, KG @Hapless exchanges fire with another T34. The PzIII with it's short 75mm gets a number of hits and causes at least one crew casualty but they lack the penetration capacity to do any noticeable damage. As the T34 is backing up, a burst of MG fire takes out Hapless himself. It was honestly a great shot, a stream of bullets arcing over the PzIII to hit the unlucky tank commander in the vehicle behind. Second image below is Hapless' last moments.

Meanwhile KG @mjkerner sends up another squad of fallschirmjager to flank the Soviet SMG platoon and takes them fully by surprise. Mjkerner's troops are holding, exposing minimal numbers to the enemy from a forward platoon, while a flexible reserve platoon as moving to engage where it's safe(r) to do so.

As the last turn comes to an end, another juicy target shows up in front of the JzPzIV's. Mmmm... maybe Elvis doesn't know that KG DoubleD is on this right flank???

Well, hello again thread from 2016. I come from the future with good news.
It's now 2020, and it is now possible to throw handgrenades into buildings from some distance from the building. Just saw my guys throw two grenades into a building from 10m distance. They decided to do it on their own accord when they spotted enemies there - not sure if it's possible to make them do it by an area fire order.

Yes CMBS is a wee bit more intense. BFC has such a rich palette of WWII kits it makes one really appreciate  how much equipment / tactics have evolved with CM Modern, CMSF2 & CMBS.

Thanks very much everyone.  I started w smallest as suggested.  These Russian soldiers are for real!  Dude is hitting me w grenade launcher from 500m and seems to be bravest man on earth.  Bullets and mortars all around him and he just keeps firing.  How many rounds does this guy have??   I've got MG firing from a reverse hill crest, a good position, but their luck will run out at some point.
    THIS IS FUN!!!

CMBS + Battle Pack is an excellent purchase and one of my favorites. Modern is fast, lethal and a lot of fun to play. Pretty much if you can spot it you can do some real damage quickly.  Bud Backer's comic book art is excellent.
Good advice from Howler on how to progress and get up to speed on the units capabilities and spotting. Don't jump in the BIG battles 1st... start small and US.
Another suggestion is go in the Editor and set up some small scenario testing with limited units and include some night battles in the mix. A lot of CMBS is making sure you know where not to be because avoiding being spotted. With Modern... if you can see it you can probably kill it. Provides a much greater appreciation of all the CM WWII games. I enjoy switching back and forth for the change of pace and unit equipment / tactics needed.

I only play HTH QB so I can’t recommend scenarios I’m afraid. However, I think it’s somewhat more forgiving to play the US first. Their equipment is superb and that gives one some advantages.

Steve had posted elsewhere that it takes an average of a year and a half to get a project to completion. But that year and a half  is not a single block of time. If the project gets interrupted by CMSF2, then CMFI R2V, then V4 game engine enhancements, then 'government work' only seen by the staff, then that 'year and a half' gets cut up into separate chunks with long gaps in between. The biggest culprit for the delay is CMFI 'Rome to Victory' module which turned into a nine nation hydra-headed monster. The module is very impressive but geez, it was a struggle. In the meantime, CMRT 'Fire and Rubble' module  has been worked on, and worked, on and worked on some more until there's little left to be worked on.

If the "BFC is run by a bunch of incompetent morons ... should go out of business for this and a bazillion other reasons".... when will the b*tching step forward put their $$$ on the line to PRODUCE something... anything of quality and value? If that ever happened (it will not) the b*tching boys are starting  from the behind.... "Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning."

Sometimes customers have the greatest ideas... and sometimes not but either way a good business learns from them. Battlefront's track record speaks volumes on your ability to learn, adapt and create entertaining, interesting games that are a great value.
Shock Force was in a tough spot because far too much had changed to provide a one-size-fits-all $10 Upgrade like we had for the other games.  But we didn't want to make people pay for everything all over again, despite being justified in doing so (2 years of development ain't cheap, after all!).  Which is why we created the inexpensive special Upgrade options that are now available.
Based on our 10 yeas of experience doing it this way, it's our feeling that we got the balance of elements right.  Or at least right enough
    Steve
CMSF2 is a clear example getting it right.

I for one have no complaints at all with how you have decided to do the upgrades on all the games and how you have priced the add-ons and upgrades to the engine.
I also am impressed with CMSF 2 in that you made it work being able to load old CMSF 1 scenarios.
When I read complaints about how you are pricing and marketing games, I generally see it appears to be a customer who either is not someone that is going to spend much time with the product or its someone that thinks the world owes them things for free. ( Both of which have come from a gaming industry that teaches them that those two principles can be somewhat true).  So I have no feelings of remorse for them when they find out this company does not work on such concepts.
I also have found that I have never regretted a purchase of your games  in that I likely get about 800 hours a year of gaming entertainment with you products.
Where as, there is hardly any other game that has managed a 100 hours of my time in the whole time of ownership and many a game that has not given me 10 hours of time before I never want to see it again.
Keep up the good work and live long and prosper

Want a real treat? Try playing it as an H2H on PBEM as I am. My opponent, with whom I've been playing PBEM H2H since he introduced me to CMBB close to 20-years ago, chose the scenario and the sides. An AI is a piece of cake compaired to a human mind.
Assuming you are playing Blue, my advice is don't rush it! You have what, 90 or 120 minutes to complete it. Dismount your pixeltruppen, and advance them forward using cover and concealment, and fire and maneuver. There's absolutely no reason for "Hey diddle diddle, right up the middle." Put your vehicles in hull down in overwatch positions. You WILL LOSE SOME! Just make sure that all your vehicles have a combined good LOS to most, if not all of the town so you can take out immediately, any enemy units that pose a threat. Keep them in overwatch until you can safely move them up. Don't forget that your engineers have demo charges. Use them to breach outer walls and buildings. Most of all, TAKE IT SLOW!

Some thoughts… CMSF1 was Great but CMSF2 is Awesome! Kudos to Battlefront and crew for bringing CMSF into Version 2.0 Game Engine 4.0. 👍 Feels like a new experience but with old friends. There is a healthy amount of old CMSF1 user made material available as well.
I prefer modern warfare more than WW2. Since you own CMBS (one of my top favorites) you may consider WW2 to experience the differences. WW2 CM games are tremendous fun but slower …  not as instantly lethal as Modern can be. WW2 CM are the most historically accurate games you can purchase. Test yourself in WW2 with authentic units and equipment and enjoy the results.
CMBN BIG BUNDLE = The largest WW2 game available with the largest selection of user made scenarios campaigns mods.
“I love bocage…reading a lot of WW2 warfare books”  = You should consider CMBN.
CMFI + Gustav Line BUNDLE = WW2 in a more open environment and mountains. Multi National forces makes for interesting mix of forces.
CMRT = Red Thunder was a delightful surprise for me. I began to better understand the non US perspective on WW2. Impressive Large Battles.
BFC’s description is accurate : “the hard fought Eastern Front battles of Bagration and Poland, from the swamps of Belarus to the gates of Warsaw during the summer of 1944. Experience the most balanced period of tactical warfare on the Eastern Front… most interesting ground combat of the entire war. ”
CMFB = Final Blitzkrieg is a beautiful game … graphically and in units and equipment. As MikeyD correctly noted, “ fall & winter Northern Europe is quite picturesque.”
BFC’s description is accurate :  “The Ardennes, France, Germany, and Holland from October 1944 through the end of January 1945. Painstakingly researched and highly detailed combat equipment for the United States Army, German Heer, Waffen-SS, and Fallschirmjäger, includes well over 100 types of vehicles and dozens of small arms and heavy weapons.”
My last Holiday comment based on the information you provided … Get the BIG WW2 enchilada” =CMBN BIG BUNDLE
All forces, battles, and campaigns found in CMBN Base Game
All forces, battles, and campaigns found in CMBN Commonwealth Forces Module
All forces, battles, and campaigns found in CMBN Market Garden Module
All new vehicles found in CMBN Vehicle Pack
All forces, battles, and campaign found in CMBN Battle Pack 1
    Hope this Helps you Ridaz.
You will not be disappointed with any WW2 Combat Mission but when you tally up ALL the game in this CMBN big bundle… you will be playing WW2 for a long long long time with many days of FUN ahead.
    Buzz "Happy Holidays"
Disclosure: My comments above are from playing the games for 16 years (even back in CMBO/BB/AK days). Think of game purchases with Battlefront as ‘investments’ in FUN & Happiness over years. Your initial game purchase is enhanced by the company’s commitment to maintaining and improving their products over years. Battlefront’s games won’t be abandoned next year. Access to user made scenarios, campaigns, mods, advice, etc. is an added value to their great products.
