ratdeath got a reaction from RescueToaster in Steam vs native
Buy it from Battlefront and add it to your steam library via Slitherine/MatrixGames. That way you have both options, steam and non-steam installation.

ratdeath reacted to lcm1947 in I am at a Delima. Stick to Normandy Bench with all it's module's or something more modern.
I have tried both the BS and SF and decided that I am just a WWII kinda guy. I do appreciate the comments, advice and recommendation but like everybody knows and mentioned numerous times from various members, a person has just got to decide his passion and go with it and for me that is WWII.
Going with RT.

Well, CW was a pleasant surprise. Bones are usually not very accurate, so I prefer a sudden pre-order over a bone anytime. Don't want to go through the FR experience again.

Makes me wish there was more visible vehicle damage in the game, if that was a real T-72 the turret would have landed on the moon.

Yeah that was a sick shot. Should be included in a video showcasing CMCW

Looks great to me, loved seeing that T-72 explode so hard it knocked down the house next to it! Never even knew that was possible.

Nice video. Note how when a tank is hit, a building a few dozen meters away also is destroyed. I think that normal explosions seem to have an effect much further than they should. This usually leads to a lot more friendly casualties than seems tolerable.

Not winning any Oscars, but it's fun to play around with video editing and CM

ratdeath reacted to Aragorn2002 in Excellent Review from School of War
To be honest I think CM is as underrated as Jordan Peterson and Eckhart Tolle combined. So I'm always delighted to see CM getting the praise it deserves.

I'm also very new to the CM franchise and have slightly differing views about both the price and the games being the same.
I own CMSF2 (plus all the DLC's, flavour packs or whatever you want to call them). I also own a number of the WW2 titles, CMBN, CMFB and CMFI, again with all the add ons.
One thing, which IMHO you are missing in your assessment, is that these add-ons also include additional campaigns, maps and scenarios in addition to their vehicles, regiments and weapons etc.
There's both large and subtle differences to all of the WW2 titles I own and there's simply no comparison with the WW2 titles and SF2.
I'd also spin the "Price tag too high" remark a bit different. For sure I needed to think hard about dropping my money (I'm on a fixed income these days) on these titles. However, in the end, for me at least, it came down to "Value" rather than "Price".
I play a lot of games, from many different genres but ultimately I enjoy sims, war, strategy and role play genres and all the better if some overlap each other.
I've spent $$$ on so called AAA titles and had no more than 10 hours in to them before I'm bored and move on.
I've spent $10 on supporting indie dev games in early access over a period of years and I've spent literally hundreds and hundreds of hours on these titles, often getting what amounts to a new game every few months as the dev releases updates.
Then there's the Paradox titles as an example, that are not "cheap" to buy but offer me, as a player, real value in terms of the hours and hours of gameplay that with DLC's add to and alter the games over the course of a decade in many cases.
When I evaluated my expense on my new CM titles that is how I looked at it. Yes, it was a large outlay in terms of cash, but seriously, I knew I'd eventually have thousands of hours in to those titles over the course of the coming years.
Price? Not for me, it's about long terms value and I'm more than happy with my decision.

Hmm, well you have some points to be sure, some fair, some unfair and some, well everyone is entitled to opinion and choices. I am not going to weigh in everything, we already know we want to fix quite a few things in the next engine (e.g. graphics) and I totally agree that 1v1 (and maybe one day 2v2 or 3v3) is in need of an overhaul.
As to "all games being the same", well they do all share the same engine so in that way, yes they are but then again so are a lot of franchises. New features get added over time which add some new flavors but the base engine is pretty consistent, which is a good thing if you are fan and maybe not so much if you are not.
As to "skins. maps, equipment", here you (and others) are way off. Each game has hundreds of hours of research on organizations and equipment/weapons and then we test them and re-address issues after release. CMSF2 and CMCW are an excellent example of this, if you imported all the forces from CMSF 2 to CMCW, the game would crash as the TO&Es and equipment are very different; US force structures are completely different (H series vs J series), the basic squad of infantry has different firepower (e.g. Dragon vs Javelin) and even the mighty M1 Abrams is the 105mm gun version in CMCW. All this effects sighting, C2 etc. Soviets are armed with different equipment from the era and - the big one - CMCW is not hybrid warfare while it is in CMSF 2.
Your point on maps might have traction between CMFS 2 and CMCW for the NTC maps but we built over 300 sq kms of German specific maps...from the actual ground that is there (as best we could) and they have very little in common with CMSF 2. And then there is the hours of content in the scenarios and campaigns which are all custom for the game they are made.
But hey I get it. I bought MS Flight Simulator and find the 4 versions of Cessna's all pretty much the same but I am definitely not a hardcore flight sim guy. My guess is that for people that the game seems the same and bland, well you might have bought the wrong game (I would suggest you give it a chance). CM is for the (fanatic) hardcore wargamer, for whom the differences between CMSF 2 and CMCW are immense, to the point that they are not even the same species. CM is not really designed for mass appeal (swear to god we should do the zombie thing) but instead has employed a niche strategy that relies on a small but really loyal base. It is franchise that is never going to compete with "Call of Honor 8: Arms of Brothers" but it has survived (and thrived) for over 20 years with the same model...so there is that.
So to partially answer the title of your post: "we did"

ratdeath reacted to Combatintman in What's the reasoning for the long wait times for artillery in Combat Mission
Airspace deconfliction ... Hot ROZs (decided not to Google that in order to keep the wife off my back) etc would be planned at formation level from memory. With all that in place it would be (put simply) knowing that the ROZ was either 'hot' or 'cold' which I think would be either determined by the JTAC or communicated to the JTAC from the relevant formation. In Afghanistan you could pretty much guarantee that there would be buckshee fast air allocated on the ATO to orbit for ECAS/ad hoc tasking in addition to anything that had been specifically committed to any given unit/operation. So if they were needed they could just be whistled up and, as Afghanistan isn't that big, they wouldn't take long to rock up. I recall on my first Afghanistan tour that the Danish recce squadron attached to Task Force Helmand got about 21,000lb of ordnance dropped from a B-52 onto some Talibs who were giving them bother on one of their trips up to Now Zad which was certainly not planned CAS.
