CM Black Sea - Beta Battle Report - US/UKR Side
sburke replied to pnzrldr's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
I believe this is what we refer to as a C&C failure. Similar to the British 1st airborne at MG. Scott had failed to clearly designate who was in command while he was away. -
CM Black Sea – BETA Battle Report - Russian Side

With a handle like that it is hard to tell if you are speaking to all of us or just one guy. I was thinking, gee that is uncharacteristically rude of Bil. -

Huh, wonder if that is where Putin got the idea.

I'd much prefer to just beat Emrys with the sticks and stones, or better yet hit him in the stones with a baseball bat. Does that count as a stick? Actually I guess he has no stones considering he won't do a pbem... fine just throw some at him, that way he can at least claim to have some. Thank us Emrys.

Theoretically. It really depends on how much they like the guy.

What version of the engine does Shock Force now use...?
sburke replied to 19Kyle72's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
No idea, haven't seen it yet. Who needs movies when I have CM. Lol Seriously I can not wait for CMSF2. And folks stop hyping on pricing. You already heard it is a ton of work. I'll be happy to pay full price as a brand new addition to the family if it gets me this gem. I so much miss the tactical capabilities in the current engine when trying to plan moves in CMSF. -
Counterattack at Son Bailey Bridge Problem?
sburke replied to Allan Wotherspoon's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
As a beta tester I have to admit I never got that far. Hey just because we tested it didn't mean we won! Never occured to me at the time to think that far along, i was focused on the actual play experience, difficulty, AI behavior etc. Sorry. -

gamey seems to me as slysniper noted to be an issue of definition. There are many ways to play CM and if two players have different views then inevitably those differences will result in accusations of "gamey" play. In reality they are simply issues of communication. I for one hate playing for VLs. It blows my sense of immersion to be focusing my attack because a building has a green base rather than the building has some tactical value. Then again I don't really care what the AAR screen says. :-P

"NFL 2015" — A Bad Lip Reading of The NFL
sburke replied to Childress's topic in General Discussion Forum
2015 year of the sucky bowl, crybaby Seattle versus cheating New England. Man I am finding it difficult to even pick a side. If you are gonna cheat either don't get caught or make it a legacy like the Broad Street Bullies. -
Yeah the variability is very cool. My initial plan got tossed into the rubble heap when right at the first turn the wheels started spinning off during the mortar barrage. I wasn't sure what was going to happen there so I felt I needed to get fire support for the consulate defenders ASAP. The pressure from that basically forced the first 10-15 turns. Once I felt I had a handle on the consulate status I started planning more long term, but with walls blown down on the consulate etc I was feeling really vulnerable. The insurgent rush when it occurred came through the openings the mortars created which were out of line of fire of my advancing teams. The marines in the compound had to stop that assault on their own.

A very basic question...or, How Not To Be Seen
sburke replied to Bud Backer's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
same here. Spotting is such a variable thing. For example if you move a unit past a hedgerow opening and maybe your opponent doesn't spot it, but does get a sound contact icon. They are now likely going to set up or focus on that location. Movement to avoid giving stuff away can mean at times actually looping around to get to a location in order not to give away your movement. Also a little suppression goes a long way, a cowering unit isn't gonna spot much so if you can drop a couple mortar rounds to make suspected outposts blind, so much the better. I pretty much assume that if I don't have really good concealment, like a wall, hedgerow, rising terrain or house between me and them, all that slow cautious movement isn't likely helping much. They are probably watching me and chuckling. -
Not sure of the distance to aircraft, but yeah actually a little more than a decade ago. From Wiki 2001 Siberia Airlines Flight 1812 Main article: Siberia Airlines Flight 1812 On 4 October 2001, Tu-154 crashed over the Black Sea. The plane was hit by S-200 surface to air missile, fired from the Crimea peninsula during a Ukrainian military exercise.
