it was all a ploy to get your attention so he could make a pitch for the CMBS winter mod. -

I think there is a mod for that. -
Some Fortress Italy Christmas bones...
sburke replied to ChrisND's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
II don't have any idea what the work load would be for the next module, but what might be a different consideration for this if BF really is not going to consider the earlier period is a desert pack. Something with a lighter load that would give the community the means to do some earlier stuff. -
hey I'd pay full price all over again to have CMSF in the 3.0 engine, but I can only speak for myself. It is the only game that allows you to simulate some actual conflicts that have occurred be they Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. That for many of us is it's primary allure. If they want to do a reboot instead of simply a remake then yeah it gets more complicated. Maybe a confrontation with Iran? Let's face it, there simply aren't that many full on conflict scenarios out there. If that is the only basis for a modern CM title, we are gonna be pretty short on material. Afghanistan and Iraq scenarios are what I mostly spend my time with other than Chris' Panther campaign. Syria fighting NATO in an of itself wasn't exactly the exciting draw.

Is FB more optimized than the others?
sburke replied to Nercon's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
There are likely two different issues here. One is the graphics, the other is flat out computing power. A larger map requires a lot more computing because of the spotting requirements. Those with minimal computing specs can probably not even load these. I expect with your upgrade that won't be an issue. Personally I have no issues with map size these days. As to graphics, how you are impacted can also have a lot to do with viewing aspect (at least that is what I think I am hearing from some of the above comments.) I guess I haven't really been bothered by those so much as I only use the high level viewing to get an overall impression of the battle - what new spotting icons have popped up, who is under fire (flashing icons etc). I then zoom down to eyeball level to watch what actually occurs and at that level I never seem to have FPS issues. -
Man don't even joke about that. Been reading Victory Fever on Guadalcanal: Japan's First Land Defeat of World War II and would love to be able to do a Guadalcanal campaign, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PMRXHBK?keywords=victory fever&qid=1452980879&ref_=sr_1_1&s=digital-text&sr=1-1

CM Final Blitzkrieg - AXIS (Attack) BETA Battle Report
sburke replied to Baneman's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
very true. I know there are folks who have issues regarding FPS etc and not to take away from that discussion, but yeah I never get a crash either. So much so that I just take it for granted and don't notice till I am on some other game and it freezes up etc. Regarding ceasefires etc. I think I see your point. If I were in a battle that I had struggled really hard and survived an attack, was about ready to try a counterattack and my opponent suddenly said.. well that didn't work, I'm done. Yeah I think I'd be a little frustrated. I tend however to follow ken's attitude. I'll continue a scenario long after I think it has tipped past the decision point if my opponent wants to. I had one recently that went several weeks after it had hit that point. My opponent apparently wanted to see if he could still cause some damage and it was potentially possible. I offered the ceasefire and it was just a matter of him deciding when things had run it's course to accept. However I have limited time to actually play so spending more of it in a battle that is still undecided is more appealing than the period afterwards. -
Well I doff my cap to you Bil. Being willing to step up on near every release and do a DAR with all that goes along with that takes some guts. That you manage to do so with humility and a good natured attitude says a lot for you. You are a true treasure to this community. You may not have won this round, but I have no doubt you'll still be the favored bet on the next no matter who pulls the short straw.. err I mean agrees to go forward and battle you in the next release.

I am betting Baneman holds his breath every time he gives the beast a move command. Bogging would be such a dismal way for this to end. -
So who else has been cranking Bowie since yesterday. Major bummer. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eIXmFL9ckGE

in keeping with the Star Trek references, how about Lursa and B'tor? -
Keep in mind that BS is a fictional FUTURE conflict. Trying to compare to present force structures while interesting and of value doesn't necessarily invalidate the decisions that when into the ToE. There are also assumptions in the back story that don't correlate to how the conflict has actually developed. "Combat Mission: Black Sea is a military simulation depicting a fictional 2017 conflict between NATO and Russia in Ukraine."

Yeah I'd agree. The JT wouldn't be doing this all on it's own. Bill's superior numbers would have gotten it except Baneman's Panthers are keeping it's flanks pretty well covered. At this rate Baneman's Infantry may be able to march on the objectives with Kitty on overwatch. Still if Kitty gets stuck in the mud this could all change in a heartbeat. -

Some Final Blitzkrieg basic details
sburke replied to ChrisND's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
well it is your money and time, you are absolutely right to set and purchase or not based on your priorities. This is a great title though and the conditions for battles you can not get in CMBN. Honestly if I HAD to choose between the two, I'd probably go with this one over CMBN. Keep in mind also that as BF continues to produce when they do get to adding additional features they will be backported to this game so it isn't like not having them in the initial release means it won't get them. You can have your cake and eat it too even if the whipped cream comes later. -
that one gets tricky as "contact" could be anything and you'd have all your guys dismounting because of a lone soldier being spotted across the map.

ahh I switched a while back. It was painless and I've had no issues running CM. Installed all CM games into their own SSD. Yes,their own- the drive is even called Combat Mission I also keep all my mods etc copied to a separate (3rd) drive so I don't accidentally wipe anything. Did that once and swore to never make the mistake again... knowing I eventually will despite all these precautions. sigh
