  1. I just stumbled upon these while watching a video about king richard III no less. Some good footage. It kind of annoys me that somebody is holding out on dead mens history to make a buck. But I am glad it exists.
  2. I would be interested in this. But would like to see the .pdf chapters first.
  3. lol. One upmanship. I am a little more casual than you guys then. I simply do not play this game enough. I play veteran because I actually enjoy seeing the units as much as having things a little more realistic. I also think you lose a little perspective that you would have in a real firefight using iron mode. The units on the ground should for instance be able to identify where MG tracers are coming from.
  4. I am interested in making sure I play this game on what the community considers to be acceptable in terms of the skill setting. I have finished one campaign on veteran but am interested in finding out what most people play "competitively" on. What skill setting does the community generally play out its multiplayer games on?
  5. damn. this is one of two things I was waiting on feedback before getting the patch. The second was ground tile textures...
  6. I would give you a game but I really don't last well with PBEM. It is simply way to slow.
  7. GPU memory is a marketing farce. I have a z77 chipset and use my intel 120gig (64of it) as cache and my 2tb mechanical as actual storage. Still boots in under 10 seconds and caches all games i use regularly.
  8. I actually mean the ground tiles which make everything look really broken up and messy like paper mache. The bocage probably would not look as bad if the ground could be told apart from it. P.S. I did try a heap of mods to no real avail. It did look a bit better but not great like fortress italy where it is easy to make out terrain.
  9. Yes looking forward to it. The terrain - especially the ugly bocage and graound textures is what I am most looking forward to.
  10. Kalibri. I completely agree with you. I had this conversation a little while back on this forum. The devs have no plans to make it a little easier for newbs or incompetents or people who do not want the stress a timer provides. You have to do it the hard way if you want to do well at this game. Enjoyable for newbs? Not really. Realistic: debatable and highly dependent on orders. Sometimes it takes as long as it takes. Personally I think their should be an option to turn the timer off. But that it should prompt a warning each time a mission starts advising that without a timer the game will be far to easy. P.S. I might add that I do not have a problem with a timer but it is stopping friends who would normally play this kind of game with me. Friends who like to wait in a game such as close combat until the enemy makes a move. Hardly realistic if you are the attacker.
  11. Has anybody with the full game installed this demo to play with friends?
  12. I think its probably historically correct. Its def defence in depth though. Lines are in c2 and sections are together. It just seems like the battalion is spread with 300m or more between platoons. Which I guess is about right for mutual support. I think I am just being frustrated as the whole map is peppered with dug in infantry and AT guns. Just like a good defence should be I guess. It will be a nice challenge.
  13. Have played a few missions in the German campaign now. I have to say its really frustrating the way Americans are scattered all over the map in trenches covering arcs like a complex web in depth. Were isolated pockets of infantry really ww2 tactics?
  14. Personally I found CMBN to be way too hard to look at. I have played more combat mission since it became a little easier on the eyes. I don't just mean I am a graphics junkie but more the fact that terrain and units are easier to distinguish and everything is simply clearer and smoother. CMBN really ran horribly on my machine where CMFI runs nicely. The game is simply much NEATER in presentation.
  15. Are their any mods yet to make the mission briefings fit the screen?
  16. I'm still interested in a campaign clock setting... straps on helmet then runs and hides
  17. I will be recommending the demo to friends. Was talking to one last night about it.
  18. Being nice and considerate is all about "considering" the benefit of the doubt before judging. People have varying degrees of time, patience, internet skills, technical knowledge and some certainly do not hang out on the forums to absorb every detail. I notice that some people tend to treat everybody like they are some sort of borg collective of knowledge and protocol. I like the doctors "do no harm" policy and the saying "if you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all". I hate to say it but this forum in particular has a "reputation" in wargaming circles because of this kind of "guilty until proven innocent" approach. Just my 2c about how sometimes things go wrong on this forum. I hope it helps people realise what they are doing without being "judgemental" myself.
  19. I really hope the terrain looks 100% better in CMBN v2.0 The terrain made it messy to see what was going on.
  20. If you play the game like you have a UAV in the sky and do not zoom in to get down with the grunts and enjoy following their story, then yes I can understand. As you get lower the need for "speed" becomes paramount. I am enjoying the game immensely, however I need a falcon more than I need a pigeon. With the performance increase CMFI brings the game is actually 100% more playable for me as I do not get as much camera stutter or slow down. I miss my zoom to cursor and hold shift to accelerate camera from other games.
  21. http://www.outofeight.info/2012/08/combat-mission-fortress-italy-review.html FYI all - I will get more time to read this through soon.
