  1. So what will you boys do with your tin box? Imagines more tin for even more elaborate alien head dress
  2. Are you trying to imply the Scottish or Greeks were in Sicily?
  3. He may be referring to the whole theatre of operations and the panthers that may have been assigned later to the italian front.
  4. A good reason to appreciate that battlefront is independent of the mainstream junkie publishers. By the way a thread about the 8outof8 review on the wargamer got so heated that it went thermo-nuclear and has been thrown into religion and politics to cool off. lol. People sure get passionate about battlefront... Michael Dorosh was in there as well...
  5. JRMC that may well be what I am used to, company of heroes, wargame european escalation and sins of a solar empire were also mentioned. However in my eyes its a little like saying "you are just not used to using a model-T ford, thats all" and to that I would say "have you even flown a helecopter?". The camera controls are certainly a lot more tollerable as another poster said when the game runs smoothly. But I still have to do a lot of adjusting instead of playing the game. You should also consider that CMx2 does with a lot of keys in combination with the mouse what other games do solely with the mouse. In other games the keyboard is left for non-camera related commands, so that the player controls the camera while working the keyboard for playing the game if needed at all. Otherwise you end up using all of your control working the camera into position and having to actually stop and re-adjust your hands to play the game.. this means if you need to adjust to a situation in real time its that much harder. Because instead of giving orders while moving the camera you end up moving the camera and stopping again to issue an order. In this games case I love the model T-Ford because its also made of pure golden gameplay, subject matter and realism
  6. wego does not enter into it for me. I was asking what game "other" than combat mission he was talking about.
  7. I realise you do not understand. That was my point. Its ok. Try to do all of the above without a keyboard. Thats the way I do things very naturally in other games. Try Sins of a Solar empire for perfection or Wargame European Escalation. No need for any keys and all of the above is perfectly possible. I do not expect better camera controls from Battlefront. I just don't think it should be surprising that people comment on it or that people ask for it. I appreciate the tips in good faith as well.
  8. First of all I wanted to clear up that when I said "fault" I did not mean it in the technical sense of the word. I did not mean that the game is "faulty" as all features are by design and work as intended. I meant fault in the way one would say "things I can fault" or in other words things I do not think are right and perhaps could be improved or added. So please do not think your game is "faulty". My youtube reply would have been intended to right some wrongs in Mr Allen's review or at least explain to the public how the game system works before criticizing it. Battlefront have said that you would like to improve the camera control. That to me indicates that your acknowledge not necessarily that their is something wrong, but that a fair few people would like mouse control that other games give. CMx2 is unique and bridges the gap between turn based wargame and RTS. People who play turn based primarily will be used to what to me are clumsy camera controls and generally a lack of any need for fine, fast, smooth and accurate mouse camera control. People who play real time games other than CMx2 will be familiar with the need for fine fine mouse camera control. These people will play the game like the RTS games they are used to. My opinion is that they will be frustrated by the camera more often than not like I am. To me the camera is functional enough and I will eventually be forced to learn the keys for movement as well. But I dream of the smoother camera control I left back with games that depict soldiers like CMx2 but play a lot faster. These games are the ones I imagine the new wargamers will perhaps be graduating from. The problem is they also have what I would term far more fine, fast, smooth and accurate mouse camera control. Thus I question whether some who are of the opinion that the camera control is top notch and perfect have ever experienced the joy of zoom to cursor or speed across the battlefield to land on a button. " MikeyD Quote: I HATE the camera controls in CM, they suck, they really do... Apparently you are playing a different game than I am." "The fighting sea bee: As far as the camera goes, it suits me just fine. I can move ask over the map instantly and view from any angle I want. I can snap the view to any unit instantly, track a moving unit, etc. I'm not sure how it could be improved... It's very close to the classic total war style and I like it a lot." It is of course all a matter of opinion and personal preference. However there are certain things that real time gamers will inevitably be appalled at. Has this stopped me buying every CMx2 game and module to date? Heck no! I love the idea to death and the fact that you guys have done it at all before I die! The positives far outweigh the negatives. But some of the negatives are certainly I know turning my friend completely off. I wish they could be included, but basic stuff like what they consider a decent camera control immediately has them in a tail spin.
  9. Actually I was thinking of writing a video response myself to debunk but do not feel qualified. I do agree that everything has faults, my issue is understanding how some here (not you) flatly deny they exist. These are the people want to see zooming around with the camera nna YouTube video. Not hanging in the sky. But getting down and beinin the thifk otit, playing he sarge. Sorry. Written from my phone.
  10. I will write some more later.... I also think combat mission is the best to be had for combined arms simulation. But as said above I would also like some "bog standard defacto industry standard" interface features added. I too cannot for the life of me understand how some of you call the camera controls comparable to total war or other game camera controls. I am guessing you are either very very used to the keyboard controls and shortcut keys or have almost no memory of what other games offer when it comes to camera controls. MikeyD I would say we are not really playing the same game at all, the camera makes me feel like I am driving a car with one front wheel flat, it pulls to one side and requires a lot of correction. Youtube has something called "responses". In that people do their own video responses to a video and youtube links the videos together. I would love to see one of you debunk all of the reviewers points in a response video.
  11. I did think he was a little harsh. Although he did touch on a few pet hates of mine like the camera controls and music.
  12. My last direct fire italian crew took 43 enemy out on their own!
  13. He found a lot of the same faults I had. However he is reviewing it compared to AAA titles with unlimited resources really.
  14. What do you mean remember! I am going to a LAN in a few weeks. These days though the wives prefer to plan on not being their when the beer & fun starts... its not like the old days when all of the bachelors could just drop in with a PC with less than an hours notice. Still its a good time and most of us are old enough to remember the original COD played at a LAN.
  15. Amazing. Just grabbed it for $10 off ebay with english subs They have authentic panthers, MKIVs and t34s etc in this movie! Its a 1955 czech propaganda film, but I can live with that for the authentic gear depicted. So far I have seen in the video clip: - 20 mm flak - pak 75 - Stug III - Panzer IV - Panther V Panther in this shot Just thought with the release of the newest CM module that some may find it inspiring as I have. Now to settle for a long wait for the post to arrive... will likely take weeks to reach me
  16. thx Beatmasta... I was actually hoping it was an option by now. I alt tabbed to answer a skype call and then tabbed back in and had forgotten to adjust the program volumes. Music of course is very loud and it is hard to alt tab when loading.
  17. Something I have wanted since the very first shock force.
  18. I stopped playing PBEM because I prefer real time and the rate of play was excruciatingly slow. It became a chor fast. Real Time coop is in the moment and over before I need to go to bed. It does not require me to keep up inspiration for months on end. It also spurs on conversation about battlefield tactics and all manner of other things and encourages friendship. VS games tend to polarise friend a lot more. People wanting to keep their secrets.... to be victorious again the next time. Even my favorite VS games of all times have been coop with a friend VS other players. Teams are much more fun than a set of poker faced polarised chess players.
  19. I can see if you wanted to play two humans or AI per side how it would be a challenge. But two humans VS one AI should not be if forces are split evenly. I assume the scenario would almost have to be made for coop however just to split the troops.
  20. I was debating on another forum about Combat Mission and comparisons to other games. Particularly with one particular gent who reckoned their were no new combat mission gamers for battlefront to tap into. I pointed out that I actually knew some younger gamers (25-30+) that were just maturing into the fold. Into these type of games. The point was that these guys had never heard of combat mission and that there fore it is still not a common name for ww2 gamers. Now thinking of this I just noticed that a regular forum (as I am a fan of total war games) I visit called www.twcenter.com has done some sort of wierd partnership with the site and now I am presented with panzer corps rubbish every time I look for total war news (rome2). Saying this I wonder if perhaps anybody has a signature I could use that I can promote CMFI on total war centre as it is an independent site... at least it was and may be showing signs of not being for much longer! Perhaps it is worth getting the word out some how? Does combat mission get a good go of it in the press usually?
  21. I agree. COOP multiplayer. They claim this is too complex to impliment but may be in eventualy. However it has been proven in a lot of games that it can be 80% of the way people play. I have friends who will play no other way as they just consider that they will get their butts kicked by myself otherwise, especially if playing a game "I like". Silly as I know as I am no napoleon! COOP is also the most fun because you are working together and the communication and laughs flow freely. With the implimentation of pausable realtime multiplay. I am however satisfied. Bad example. But Wargame European Escalation implimented COOP recently because of community demand despite a lot of people whinging that this would dilute the VS population for the game. People experience with Company of Heroes you see was that a lot of people simply played COOP as a "cop out" for a relaxing time of it. Reality was it was fun beating off hoardes of aggressive enemy attacks with friends and was great training on how things\units\tactics worked for VS games, even though VS tactics were a little different vs a human opponent.
  22. I remember reading a while back that the intention for CMFI was to ensure that bow gunners and main gunners could target two different arcs. Thus the bow gunner could engage to his front while the main gunner could engage to the sides. Did this get fixed? I may have missed it in the feature list.
  23. I have not purchased CMFI yet. But I will when the download version comes out. CMBN - Normandy is a great game. But some of the features CMFI brings to the table actually fix some really game breaking problems with CMBN. Such as being able to hide AT guns effectively. CMFI will offer better game play if you are interested in the theatre I would think. To me Italy is extremely interesting as I am sick of the whole private ryan and normandy business. CMFI is a breath of fresh air. If you wait until they retrofit the CMFI features into CMBN that may be the better choice if you are more interested in that theatre.
