  1. I really do want the names of those books... if you could PM me? When we get to Stalingrad though it would be nice to have some flavour faces. But in all honesty you could barely tell the difference. Then again there are other minute details in this game which is all about detail.
  2. There is a steam group if you have steam. Some people are playing 20 games via WEGO email with 20 different people. I can get you the name of it if you wish. With steam communications are much easier as you can just chat with members whenever they are on. Most people who have any game other than this have steam on when there computers boot. I have been meaning to play more myself. I get interested and play a game or two before losing interest for a while again. Mainly because of the time involved and the fact that I cannot get my friends into it. Coop would be perfect as a trainer for new players. But most find it too complex and it is fairly hard to train somebody green who is playing the enemy and gets crushed even if I sit back doing nothing! I have got mates into flight simulators that love the era but have not got the jiuce to learn them because I could coop and walk them through. Heck I could benefit from coop!
  3. Or can I just use my existing install with the same scenarios? I really do not want to download 700mb on my current shocker of a connection.
  4. Well they seem to be investing now in a 3D version: I had never noticed this. I really like them a lot. Be good to see them when the camo and finer details are presumably added. I am now really looking forward to this as long as everything is realistic and improved. Close Combat: The Bloody First is the name. One of the things that really annoyed me about Close Combat was that the soldiers were waaay to big in comparison to the tanks. I hope this has been changed. Ranges also have to be realistic. I have not played close combat in a long time but seem to remember that tank ranges were a little unrealistic in the original titles to offset the small maps. I wonder what has been improved... borg vision ? A zoom feature could make this really amazing, this lean to thing I don't know about. Also with 3D we should finally be able to clearly see undulations in the terrain. Something very very hard to do in both combat mission and the original close combat titles. Are we going to be able to have maps big enough to support a real battlegroup or unit composition this time? Like combat mission has where you get to use half tracks the way they were supposed to be used. I am assuming we now have entry and exit animations for transports? It would be great if the campaign was a little more realistic as well. Again this is something that combat mission cannot compete with. A map similar to the unity of command games would be good. Will there be re-enforcements? That sort of thing did not happen in CC1 - You were never able to have a battlegroup come to help from an ajacent block on the campaign map even if it was originally inbound. WOW two player COOP!!!! This is something combat mission cannot compete with!! But America in Normandy again? I hope there is a German campaign because I personally am sick to death of the default Normandy as the Americans perspective. It's not that I hate it, just that it is well covered. Having said that I guess it is the lowest risk for a new title. WAIT WHAT! PC AND IPAD? I hope the PC version will NOT be limited by the IPAD version. I.E. THe game is only developed to the IPAD's potential and the PC is wasted on it. I want to see tank tracks moving and men animating like in company of heroes. I will never touch company of heroes again if this game turns out! I don't know yet if it will compete for realism with combat mission. http://www.pockettactics.com/news/io...-close-combat/
  5. I thought I saw a MKIV in the trailer. If anybody has spoilers in this thread make sure you use spoiler tags.... we won't get this in AU for some time....
  6. Wish they would do a serious one in the same vein.
  7. I wont argue with you when it comes to combat mission being superior up until now in realism feature stakes. I am just interested to see if this new one has anything under the hood. Close combat is at least the only game I know of that can hold a candle to combat mission. If this 3d version turns out to be more than just window dressing i will certainly be keeping an eye on it. The AI in close combat is something I am very interested in. This is an area that I believe close combat 3D may end up being far superior to combat mission in. This combined with co-operative play in a game that DOES have many realistic features. I mean something that I guess I should ask the devs is whether the maps cater for the longer ranges. I have no idea whether these screenshots are just to SHOW what is in the game rather than to show grogs typical ranges. The MAP graphics being crisp and clear have always made close combat for me an easier game to see things in and control them. Although gradients have always been a problem in a 2D map, perhaps until now. Obviously a campaign and force selection screens etc are something combat mission completely missed. In combat mission I am stuck with a briefing screen the size of 1/3 of my screen I strain to read and cannot interact with. Suffice to say a lot more of my friends remember and play close combat than combat mission. When this comes out I may actually have a reasonably realistic game in relative terms that my friends will actually play with me. One that does not take 10hrs to play a 3hr battle through on. We will see. I am prepared to be unerwhelmed by close combat 3D. I first played close combat 1 in high school... rose coloured glasses? It was a little like playing with a train set. P.S. John what is it that you don't like specifically about close combat? What is glaringly wrong?
  8. Closee combat is on steam now. First i hear of it is my stem friends who have not played it since the 90s suddenly becoming aware buying it and then messaging me on steam. With steam of course i can see when friends are playing and what and knew he was playing it already and probably could have just presser join to play with him to boot. They had no idea close combat was still around. They paid $40 happily with no knowledge it has nott changed really or that close comvaat 3d is due by the end of the year.
  9. OK my post was premature sorry. I got excited by the title of the other post.
  10. Not overlay. I already have them added to steam as non steam I want steam to manage the updates.
  11. I want to move all my combat mission games to steam where all my other games live and are managed. Is that possible without buying them again? Most games that move to steam do allow this so that the existing community does not feel misled by having to use the old system and to reward their pre-order/first day purchase power.
  12. I used to have a blast with the original especially. It's what made me look for cmx2. Recently of course I have gotten used to the WEGO play style of CMx2. What I am missing from cmx2 is a campaign map, multiplayer options (COOP) and the nice crisp "train set" style terrain that even the old close combat games had. Close Combat has all of that.

  14. I have my kindle in front of me. Ii press menu. And it shows me the page number. Not all books show page numbers depending on whether the publisher\author (not amazon) provided page numbers when formatting the ebook. The other problem is that depending on the size you have your text set to, you may find you can press to the next screen five times and still be on the same page. There is a function that allows you to add notes anywhere in the kindle boon and even publish them however. This page number problem is not unique to kindle but to all ebook readers. They rely on literal locations to find things rather than page and paragraph systems. You would be siting locations rather than pages. Locations would work perhaps across all ebook reader platforms? I have however not checked this. Locations are shown at the bottom of every ebook no matter the format because i would say that locations are based on word counts rather than relying on pages.
  15. Exactly. My grand idea for fame is to open a computer spare parts factory that makes OLD parts for PCs until 2050!! I have been wondering how I will play my old favs in 10yrs time. But then maybe newer PCs will just do it and be smart enough to understand and run anything. AT LEAST with a PC there is a way to do it. Try that with old MACs or Consoles without resorting to a PC.
  16. Interesting apoll considering even privates in the AU army have or had fairly good map skills. You would think the officers would be experts and quick to boot. I would love a map in this game to plot things on. But I guess that is what we have essentially with our od like advantage.
  17. So I can abandon weapons manually... but not the other way around. So why allow the player to abandon if the crew cannot do anything about getting back on? Seems like half finished code.
  18. CAnnot seem to get my guys to re-man a gun I had them abandon to hide for a bit.
  19. So what if you made the game still resolve real time on one pc and then send it to the other in the background before playing for both? P.s. I am assuming that after 20 tturns you can still have one side save the game for later?
  20. So it's moddable? It's just a picture... could be blown up 10 times per resolution.
  21. This is what my briefings look like with "desktop resolution selected". It is not relaxing but a chore to read like this. See all the black space around the edges. That is what I see.
  22. He wins a time travel trip to the middle of an actual ww2 battle from this title as the defending germans... congratulations Wodin
