  1. I am waiting for this too. I imagine they will wait for the pre-orders to sell out.
  2. Agreed I am also a big total war player. RomeII is going to be ... just wow!
  3. You will if you have CMBN and want to update with fortress italy You will also have done so if you want to use one of the older CM games... I think CMAK? EDIT: Already touched on P.S. I would prefer to pay to have the older series updated than not have it happen. But some other companies do do this as a matter of course. However they are not niche.
  4. Thank you Steve. Fair enough. I can understand if their is no demand. As for breaking the AI, well friend will be a little dissappointed as he just wants to play the game on "baby rattle" level. He is not going to curse the game or AI for being to easy if he selects no timer. But yeah no worries...
  5. I will try your method. However this sounds like I am operating a wharf crane rather than a camera. I am used to just naturally flying to exactly where I want to go quickly and then maybe making one minor adjustment.
  6. Are these all by battlefront BTW
  7. Are their being improvements made to the camera system within all the major tweaks happening? Do you agree though that games like Ruse, Sins of a Solar Empire and WargameEE may be up the top for smooth mouse control, but in addition almost all RTS games are still superior in their camera control to this game. For some reason the devs went with the same system that Jutland by SES uses. The edges of the screen are split into sections that do different things. It means say that once your mouse hits the left hand side of the screen their are three directions the camera may fly off in according to what part of the side you hit. This means if you miss its frustrating. It feels un-natural. Additionally most RTS games camera will pan left or right or head forwards diagonally if you move the mouse into a corner, in CM the game will move the camera up or to the side. Their is no slowing or speeding up according to how fast you are pushing the mouse. Which again makes seems to make it harder to get to where you want to go. Maybe its just that in other games I am used to being able to control the camera so naturally with the tap of a mouse, nothing more. Because the mouse is so quick on other games. Also feels un-natural as the mouse is not that smooth on my system and it can take time to get to the edges. The solution could be that instead of enjoying the camera movement as I do in other games that I start using keys and mouse to try to aim for where I want to go like I am playing an FPS. However I do not have to do this in other RTS games and the workload is many times less and its much more relaxing to play because of this. I find that other FPS games like total war are very easy to manipulate with mouse only. Which leaves a hand free to do other things. IMHO they just got it wrong, its an immature system or they just don't have the resources due to staff or memory requirements to get it right. However it could also just be that my computer cannot handle it. But really other games seem to allow you to use the mouse really well even when the game is stuttering. Like they give the mouse the highest priority for resources. I will have to try it when I get a new rig for comparison. My rig is getting on but exceeds the SUGGESTED (not minimum) system requirements to play the game smoothly. Q6600 6gig ram gt460 video card win7 pro 64bit Mini Whinge and Wishlisting over Please do not see this as an attack but rather constructive feedback.
  8. Its not for multiplayer. There is also no point this guy playing multi if he is that horrible at single. I actually find it amusing that people are saying, hey its a game and then arguing that things are not realistic in the same post or a subsequent reply. The fact remains that my mate would like it and so I am asking, realistic or gamey. Does not matter.
  9. Fighting may be short and sharp. However a lot of battles for a town say, did go on for hours. the action may be dispersed at intervals between that time however.
  10. I do agree with most of what you say Womble. However some people such as my friend just want to enjoy the game and the narrative without believing in an artificial timer. They do not play to win but for the experience. They may not be the brightest or the most skillfull, but I am not an elitist either.. they enjoy the fine detail of a game like this. But do not want the stress. We have an "easy" level so why not add a timer tick box? For a lot of people WEGO is something that should be for Strategic layers. It is too slow and too abstract. I agree is is good for those who like to control every detail. But pausing can just as easily do this in a pinch. But even then the pressure of a timer is still too much for some. I agree that he failed the game in its intended time. However there is no incentive for him to play even on the easiest level if he is to be cut off at the knees when the timer runs out. He would eventually move to timed missions, however the game has to be fun for him first at its easiest level. He does not care if the AI will be hobbled by his decision as long as he can have fun. Realism in a lot of cases is not determined by what the scenario designer "intended". Best laid plans? British attacks especially are not known for their speed and it is the commonwealth scenario (first in the campaign) that he was playing. That mission can be very tough if your men have a hard time spotting AT guns I must say. For a novice like him I think it was a night mare.
  11. 32 bit systems are almost extinct as we speak. 9 out of 10 units sold are 64 bit. Primarily because 32bit does not go above the 4gig limit.
  12. The campaign is what makes it hard to edit the timer. It involves extracting the scenario and then editing every single mission and then figuring out how to repack it and recreate some of the text files that bind the mission together. The fact is that some people do not want a timer in real time. Its that simple. I understand that time is a resource and I do consider it realistic. However some of my other friends think that attacks are not called off simply because they are behind schedule especially if they are making progress. One just has to look at the massive delays a lot of attacks suffered in ww2 to realise this. Some battles raged for days longer than intended. Where is the referee to blow the whistle and tell you its full time? I personally enjoy the timer because I am a naturally aggressive player. However some like to relax, take their time or are just plain slow with managing it all. They don't like to pause, they like to let things run while they are doing anything. Relax and play their uber detailed battle game. I argued with him about all the things the battle timer could represent realistically. He never moved from the simple fact that an attack or defence can take as long as it likes regardless of everything else. He has not really played his investment since failing the first mission a few times. Saying that for a realistic game that hard coded feature is sure unrealistic and annoying.
  13. A lot of people do not like the timer at all (not me). Well I should qualify by just saying one of my friends I don't think this would be hard to do as an option and it would help newbs a lot.
  14. OMFG - if the series keeps improving (esp terrain) this is going to be a great experience. Strategic map please!
  15. I have a 460. That level does look good though. I love the terrain undulation
  16. will their finally be COOP vs AI"?
  17. Ground and trees - Terrain that does not burn my eyes. Honestly thats all I need. Tell me this version of the engine has made things in normandy easier on the eyes. I installed all those terrain mods and it only improved things marginally.
  18. I do not disagree. But their are a lot of people out their who are arm chair generals not wanting to rush.
  19. Thanks Mike. Just read your reply. No need to say sorry. I am great full that you did at all
  20. With instruction I have used a tool to decompile the campaigns and intended to change all the time limits for a friend, then recompile them. However the tool did not give me the campaign script. Does anybody know how to get the script files so that my recreating the campaigns will work. I have noticed others complaining about time limits so I may do this for all the campaigns and then post them if their is interest.
  21. There is something that is called an average though Cpt Mike is not saying this was a one off. He did not stop playing after one game, but after many.
  22. I thought I read somewhere that they turned the arty down in this game. Could be wrong.
