  1. Yes, some time ago. The thread that he got banned in wasn't about CMx2, so yeah, you probably missed it.
  2. This is something that I would love to see. I (like many other players) love to get down to ground level to check LOS and hull down positions. The thought came the other day to me though - if you've adjusted your unit visual scale (to +1 up to +4) is your view from that unit "skewed"? I would think so, since you aren't really sitting up that high. Also, what may appear to be a clear shot to an enemy tank because you can see it's turret cresting the ridge in the road may not actually be a clear shot because you have your units scaled up in size. A "true turret/gun optics" view would be a neat thing to have. Perhaps when you enter this viewing mode from within one of your units, any overscaling is removed so that you see the true size of the objects.
  3. Were they captured? Click on the enemy squad and see if it says that they are "Prisoners".
  4. It's funny, this thread. I go to Armchair General to read the forums on ASL, and all that they whine about is the impending release of Armies of Oblivion, the long awaited final core module for ASL (first announced in what, 1997 I think?). Multiman Publishing is promising that this is the year. I then come here and it's whining about the impending release of CMx2. Me personally, I've been awaiting the release of Leisure Suit Larry 9 for years now!!!
  5. Yes, me too. But when you hear it in game it's a bit odd to hear a sniper load his gun from several hundred meters away from the camera location. </font>
  6. So this new CM is going to be a First Person Shooter eh?
  7. They're making a new version of CM?
  8. That just doesn't make sense as the contents of the clipboard aren't interacting with Photoshop in any way by your description. When you copy to the clipboard (print screen), it's not a file at all, it's just information saved in memory - there is no file or file extension. Do you have Photoshop launched before you take the screenshot, or are you taking the screenshot and then trying to launch the Photoshop application when this error appears? What happens if you have Photoshop open with a new, blank canvas already created and then you try to paste to it? But I'm with a previous poster and say move to Irfanview. Photoshop Deluxe is an old and cludgy program as I recall. If you don't have the real thing, then go Irfanview.
  9. Magua's will work, you have to renumber a few of the BMP's though. Just compare the originals from CMAK to CMBO for what you want to change and you'll see what I mean. CMAK also has more images for some of the tiles (grasses, scattered trees I believe, others maybe) and the tiles are larger. You can opt to resize Magua's for a more pixels per inch ratio, or leave them the original size, they'll work that way as well.
  10. Jason- Well, I'm not going to speak for TSD, and to be honest, I don't know if we're even referring to TPG or TSD or both - but, I'll cite you some figures from TPG: 2090 people found the log in system not so difficult - your nickname, email address and a password and you once you sign up, a cookie saves that information. Just like the BFC forums - the ones that you signed up for. 388 scenarios are currently under playtest at the site. Probably that many (or more) have been removed from the site with successful playtesting and moved on to TSD or other locations. 2774 posts (we call them discussions) have been made for those 388 scenarios, an average of 7.15 posts per scenario. Now, I wont try and paint a rosey picture and say that we have perfect participation from those 2090 members. I will say that most join just to grab scenarios and never ever participate in any manner. Many signed up looking for opponents (we have an opponent finding section as well). Many joined and probably forgot about the site. But overall, I'm quite pleased with the participation levels. If I felt it was a flop in any way, I wouldn't be spending my time and money hosting and constantly developing the site. But lets face it - this is a game, a game in a niche market with a major engine rewrite on the horizon. Who knows whats going to happen to TSD or TPG or Der Kessel or others once that new version is released. I can't say that I will have the time, energy or desire to rewrite the site to accomodate those changes (time periods, etc). Ugh, I'm off on a ramble. Hey, it's no sweat off my balls if you don't want to sign up at any other site but this one. That's cool - your suggestions on gameplay and tactics here are top notch. You participate in that manner, others write reviews, while others do nothing but play scenarios that they snag off the sites vs the AI. I'm not a scenario author, I can understand their frustration at the lack of appreciation - but if it were me, I'd just stop creating scenarios for others - if nobody were talking about them at all. Hopefully TPG does give some outlet of discussion for most of the scenarios there. So with that, I'm off to play ASL on VASL.
  11. FWIW, and I'm not sure if you're referring to TPG or not, but registration for it comes in two forms - short and long. If you just want to download (and hopefully review) scenarios, then you can just fill in the short form which only requires an email address (so that the authors can contact you, but is NOT published on the site or available to non-authors) and a user name and password. That information is kept in a cookie so you don't have to log in again (unless you don't accept cookies). The "long form" is for those seeking to find other opponents and asks for your playing preferences and such. While I agree that nobody should be forced to submit reviews/suggestions, I don't agree with cheating the author the knowledge that you have downloaded their work without letting them know - that is the sole purpose of having a log in system on TPG (and other sites I would guess). Just my thoughts on it.
  12. I would only consider doing this <u>if</u> Keith decided he no longer wanted to host/support TSD. TSD is and has been *the* place for finished scenarios and it has always been my desire to *not* directly compete with him in that arena, but to supplement his archive by giving designers a place to have their works tested before moving them over. If I were a PHP programmer, I'd offer my assistance to any coding enhancements for a v3 of TSD, but I'm not. TPG is written in a similar, but uniquely different programming language. I am available for any ideas or input though should he ask.
  13. TPG could host those for the testing phase Kingfish if you like. I see that you posted a CMBO there at one time and did receive some feedback on it (which is fairly difficult thing to have done being CMBO and all). Just an FYI.
  14. Good point- I'd be perfectly satisfied if the pbem turns (only) were from an overhead perspective (only). Not that it matters what I do, but I play 90% of my games from this perspective anyways, and only go down below that when plotting complex moves and want to get terrain advantages manually. Otherwise, I view all the movies from overhead only. If this would cut down the filesizes to a manageable level for pbem play, that'd work for me! The question is though, is this even possible, and would it be an acceptable compromise.
  15. Since the data is already there in the database(s) (i.e., "best played as" for each scenario) then I'm sure he'd add this feature as it isn't more than another statement to add to the search string (and column to add to the results page). I'd also like to see the columns sortable on the column headers on the search results page, if not too much trouble.
  16. Is there a question in there? Are we going to have another 230+ posts debating how TCP/IP packets can be pushed throughout gameplay and so why can't pbem files be magically pushed in the same way? Just let them build the game already! And I'm saying this in a light-hearted manner to you Tom, so don't take offense.
  17. Well, I've read posts from page 1, and some from page 2 of this thread, and now the posts from page 9 - and in 230+ posts - poor Steve has had to repeat the same thing over and over again. In otherwords, nothing was accomplished with all this whining. I thought it was pretty much a no-brainer to assume that TCP/IP play would involve streaming packets of data that could be transferred during orders plotting and even during movie playback phases, thus making the filesize pretty much a non-issue. I can also see how huge filesizes could kill the possiblity of pbem games. I can understand BFC not making pbem a priority even. Do I want pbem? Yes, it's my only method of play at the moment for CMx1 games. Will I not buy CMx2 if there is no pbem? Can't say. I'll probably have a mini-protest at first, but temptation will overcome me and I'll wind up getting it. I'm sure BFC is counting on that from us. No pbem would kill my vs human games though, I just don't care for TCP/IP. I hate that rushed feeling of turn plotting. I hate telling my playing opponent to hold on while I tend to real life issues, and I hate having to bypass my router because I can't get a solid connection otherwise. And ok, sorry to call everyone whiners - guess I'm whining too in my own way.
  18. Carl Puppchen did an adoptation of Our backs to the Volga for CMAK called, Our backs to the Tiber. It is in beta mode, but is available for playtesting at The Proving Grounds, direct link HERE. Carl would love to hear your feedback on the playability of the scenario, I'm sure.
  19. Peng is the under 15 years old crowd. Don't believe me? Just read some of it.
  20. Egads! First thing I do in every new game is turn off the music. To each their own though. Can't you start up Winamp or the like before you go into the game and enjoy some music while you play?
  21. Anybody up for a pbem game of CMBB or CMAK?
  22. I'd seek out Gunny Bunny and borrow his copy first, and then decide to either buy it or not. <font size="1">Kidding, I'm only kidding...</font>
  23. Hey, I didn't conscent to the release of that video! There's only one video that I'm authorizing the release of that has something to do with me, and it ain't about Combat Mission! On 2nd thought, you sure that was against me, I don't recognize the carnage....
