  1. You can get by with being lax in the computer version where as you can't in the boardgame. In the computer version you can go down to level 1 on every unit, check their condition, set unique waypoints and orders, move them back if they're taking too much fire, etc, -or- you can just group select the whole lot of them and give them a "Move to Contact Order". In the boardgame, you've got to conform to the rules, unless you're playing yourself and then who's watching anyways? FWIW, I've begun to go back to my boardgaming days since about every one of them now can be played on the computer, versus others. You still need to learn the rules, but the maps and counters are there to move around with your opponent watching you in real time. Search the General Discussion Forums for VASL or VASSAL if interested.
  2. 21gb of mod's in 24 hours?!?!?! Good grief, just play the games dammit!
  3. I haven't touched a QB since I don't know when. There's so many great scenarios that you and the community have created.
  4. Use UOSU. It was made for Ultima Online but works with anything. It will let you take shot after shot without having to exit the game, save the shot and then go back to the game. It also saves the images in .jpg format to the folder of your choice. You can then use Irfanview to resize or adjust as needed (batch process them all at once even). I've uploaded my copy HERE (it's freeware, just hard to find)
  5. This is all a matter of having a scenario playtested before it is sent to TSD, IMHO. A perfect world would have all scenarios sent to TSD having been playtested for balance so that the reviews left at TSD would be directly related to the fun factor of the scenario only.
  6. Tom's CMHQ has Mike's CMBO ASL interface mod, a must have for ASL CMBO players, in my opinion. Check under Mods > Goodies
  7. Before a person can download a scenario have him submit a review. I am no coding guru but there must be a way. </font>
  8. What's neat about using Vassal, once the module that Mike is making gets distributed, it will become like an opponent finding service as well. When you log onto Vassal and select the room for this module, you will be in the "Guest room" where everybody can text chat. Sub-rooms will hold the actual campaigns as they're being played. Visitors can enter the room and politely ask if they can "sync". If the guys playing the campaign have no problem with that, then you sync your screen with the battlefield and you then will see all the moves being made in real time. I suppose though, that the campaign map wont have too much action on it while the CM battles are being fought, but I may be wrong - not entirely sure what Mike is cooking up over there either.
  9. Hi folke, There's some links to CM related sites on the Resources page on this site. I also have a Reference Area at The Proving Grounds where members can add their own links for anything that a CM player/designer might want or use.
  10. All that I see is a bunch of broken images....
  11. My brother used to take his laptop into the bathroom, ethernet cable and all, for extended and frequent periods of time. Could tell the wife your just really constipated. Might buy you a few turns per session.
  12. And send me an email to let me know when you're having the ASL party, I'm so there!
  13. I might have to add that, maybe I'd get a response to the announcement then. Ah well, it's for you guys and I know several existing members from TPG will enjoy it.
  14. --cross posted to the CMAK area-- Just wanted to pass along that The Proving Grounds now has a Scenario Design Tips section and a Research Area chock full of tips and research information provided by other members. Some good stuff that may help some of you designing your own battles. Both of these new sections can be found under the FAQ/TOOLS navigation menu.

  16. Is your harddrive "thrashing" during those periods of stuttering or while playing the game? I just played a turn and noticed no harddrive activity once the game was loaded during the actual playing of the turn. If yours is accessing the drive like a madman, it would seem that for some reason your computer is needing virtual memory to make up for a lack in physical RAM - though you have a good amount of it, especially for the game. A highly fragmented harddrive perhaps, or a bad memory chip perhaps?
  17. I don't see it happening for two reasons: 1. People have requested a "Mods" forum forever and it hasn't happened... 2. An image intense forum isn't going to be well received either. Now, there are a few sites with good AAR's. In the scenario discussions forum is a link to another forum where an ongoing set of AAR's are housed (sorry, don't have the link off-hand, but should). There's also the Band of Brothers website, the ROW AAR's at Boots and Tracks and if you feel like writing a bit, we can use some playtesters at The Proving Grounds where our scenario discussions area is very "AAResque".
  18. Does anybody else look for that single "spotting round" of artillery that drops up to 1 min out from the main artillery strike? I look for it so that I can make a quick adjustment at that time instead of blowing through 60 seconds of a strike that is off the mark. It often takes several replays of a turn to find that round, especially if it is way off mark. The shockwave would sure be nice in this case at least. Or perhaps a colored spotting round (smoke).
  19. Yes, it will do batch processing (built in). I'm at the gym right now so don't have access to Irfanview, but it's fairly intuitive if you go through the menus (there might even be contextual help on it).
  20. Download the free Irfanview. IMHO, the best freeware graphics program out there. Will let you resize, convert and much more - even in batch mode where you could tell it what to do and let it run on a whole folder of images.
  21. No doubt that's a DOS window that is opening and closing quickly because it has finished presenting the error message that it contains. Try executing the patch from the command prompt (DOS) so that you can at least read what the error is: START > RUN in the box type cmd That will open a DOS window. Navigate to where you have the patch downloaded, something like: cd c:\downloads\CMBB_v103_Patch.exe You should then at least see what the error is. My guess is it's something to do with the extraction utility. Speaking of which, I believe you can extract that file if you use WinRAR (www.rarlabs.com). Just tested, yes you can. Inside you will find (for 1.03 at least): Barbarossa to Berlin.exe replacement file BMP folder README 103.txt Manually copy those over and you're patched - I'd go that route, ignore the DOS box thingie. Edit: argh, why is HTML not enabled!!!!
  22. CMHQ is using a java applet, not javascript - two different things. You probably need java installed for your browser, go to LINK to install it. P.S. There's an opponent finder section at The Proving Grounds if you want to post a profile and browser for players.
  23. Do you mean the files are stored on your desktop <i>after you email them</i> or <i>after you play your turn</i>? Are you using pbem helper per chance? Unless there's some mystery setting that I've missed all this time, you can't set a location for the pbem turns - it's hard coded into the game. Pbem Helper does ask you where your pbem folder is though, so perhaps it could then move the files to whatever location you tell it to use. If the files are winding up on your desktop after you email them, then obviously I'd say your email program is storing them there for whatever reason.
  24. You don't mention if you're PC or Mac (I'm guessing older Mac with the 256mb limitation), but in either case, adding RAM is the cheapest and best "bang for the buck" thing that you can add to your computer. Absolutely upgrade it if it is in your budget while getting a new computer is not.
  25. Different OOB's - east front vs italian/mediterranian/N. Africa. Depends on where and with whom you want to fight your battles.
