    Hey,
I'm currently playing a coop game with a friend by sending turns to each other in the planning phase and watching the replays and came across an interesting issue.

So the campaign we are doing is For King and Country (mission 2 if it's of any matter) and we stumbled across an issue with 2 units struggling with pathfinding. Since pictures say more than words:

The teams in question are the fireteam next to the HQ unit in the corner of the bocage (let them be known as first team for this post) and the section that has already had 3 men ran up to their waypoint (going by the glorious name of second team in this post).
So the two (then full sections) walked up to that corner of the bocage. At this point no teams have been split from either of the sections. They keep moving and from the first team, 2 fireteams walk up fine but one stays at the corner and same with the second team: one fireteam walks up perfectly fine but the other two are stuck. (We tried splitting the teams to see if that did anything, hence the lone fireteam).
If you give them a movement order on the other side of the bocage, they just don't do anything. The way we got it to work was to tell both units to move back from the bocage (the second team being split into individual fireteams at this point) to the road and go around to the openings and then go on the other side. Also another interesting thing is that if you tell the second team to move back 1 AS as a full section and then link up with the team up front they walk back to the road and as the two teams reach the waypoint they move onto the next one and then that counts as done as soon as the 3 man team up front reach that.
Other interesting note is that if you move the teams back 1 AS to the road and tell them to walk straight up to the team next to the shermans, they walk up to the bocage and stop.

Seems to be an issue with the pathfinding on that particular corner of the bocage.

Save file for anyone interested: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hbazpocug60474d/For%20King%20and%20Country%20COOP%202%20-%20007%20%C2%BD.bts?dl=0
Unfortunately we kind of woke up to this issue a tad late and only have the replay saves left from the previous turns.

Okay. Cool. I've read all this and this is my takeaway: pre-orders will ship next September with just empty boxes.
    Or did I misunderstand something?

Ian Daglish wrote 3 incredible volumes. Here's one link: https://www.amazon.com/Operation-Goodwood-Over-Battlefield-Daglish-ebook/dp/B00DN5TWK8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539565698&sr=8-1&keywords=over+the+battlefield&dpID=51uTRJtegYL&preST=_SY445_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
They focus on Goodwood, Espom and Bluecoat. Those were Commonwealth battles out of Normandy. He used copious aerial recce footage. They are great resources. Ian was very active in the ASL scene (and, I'm sure, elsewhere). His life was cut far too short due to an aircraft accident.
I would think the kindle/ebook versions would be poor. The printed copies were outstanding, especially his use of the photos. Try one: you'll end up buying all three.

Perhaps, in a nether-world-isch manner, he is yearning for a way to have different levels of water in game? I would not levee such a charge on him, but if he's willing to go Dutch on the cost of the implementation, it could perhaps get done?
    You're welcome.

CM Fortress Italy is less overtly lethal, though, for beginners, with less esoteric weapon systems. I'd advise just download ALL of the demos and have a blast fighting in Russia/Ukraine/Italy/Normandy and Belgium!

"Combat Mission Shock Force 2 is in the final stages of development, however it is not yet ready for release. At this point in time we are inviting people to preorder one of several CMSF2 options at $5 off normal prices. With the purchase you will receive a license key and download link that will be activated when the game is ready. You may also add a DVD and/or Game Engine Manual to your preorder at extra cost. Please note the manual in this case is the standard Game Engine 4 manual, not a CMSF2 specific manual. Therefore, if you already have a Game Engine 4 manual from another CM product you really don't need another one.
IMPORTANT NOTE!!!! As soon as CMSF2 is released we will add new purchase options for Upgrades and stand alone Modules. Owners of original Shock Force products should wait until these options are available in order to take advantage of significant savings and additional purchase flexibility."
The above is from the order page in the store. Anyone doing due diligence who preordered accepted a discounted price and knew the game wasn't ready to be released at the time of purchase. Furthermore, every "release date" posted in the forums has come with a disclaimer about its accuracy. BF has in no way violated the terms of the sales agreement.

I have realized that, for so many years, I have only bought from Battlefront two games: CMBB and CMSF (plus all its modules). What is wonderful and very rare now in game industry is that Battlefront is still releasing free demos to try their games. I have looked at CMBN several times. Installed the demo and was continuing to hoping for CMSF2 even if I was not yet knowing it was an existing secret project.
But, for so many years, did I support Battlefront with free demos? I am not sure. So, thanks to @JoMc67 PBEM proposal, I have now bought CMBN big bundle. I think this is the best support I can give to Battlefront. Will buy CMSF2 upgrade when its done. It is not in September. I do not care. I care about a well finish product. And I have the intuition we won't have to wait very long before release.
    Just my humble opinion.

    Hi everyone,
Here is a cinematic video featuring Shock Force 2! This is meant to be a showcase, similar in concept to a gameplay trailer. Keep in mind this is footage taken from a beta build of the game, and things are subject to change and all that. Hope you all enjoy!

This short video uses working examples of Shermans (inc a Firefly), an M10, even a Priest to depict the wide range of engines fitted and their distinctive acoustic signatures. It offers some great clips of the AFVs, OVM (external stowage of tools) and more. Some look like showroom vehicles, while others look like they're rigged for war, with lots of stuff piled on, draped, etc.

c3k got a reaction from ncc1701e in Artillery advices needed
    ^^^
Yes. "Guns" were known to be heavier, but longer-ranged, than "Howitzers". They were longer-ranged due to a higher muzzle velocity. The metallurgy and engineering required to achieve that higher muzzle velocity meant that the same-caliber Gun was far heavier than its Howitzer counter-part.
In modern armies, the advances in projectile technology (base-bleed and rocket-assist), higher chamber pressures (better metallurgy), longer-wearing barrels (ditto), and other changes have meant that the "Gun" no longer does anything that the "Howitzer" cannot. And, due to the ability to loft rounds higher, the Howitzer can do things that Guns cannot. So, other than a few specialized cases, Howitzers have completely supplanted Guns in modern artillery parks.
(Rocket artillery has taken over the traditional role of Guns, as far as that role cannot be done by a Howitzer. Meaning, the far, deep-strike, into the enemy rear-area, and/or counter-battery fire from a long distance. Howitzers can do some of that, but not at the ranges which have become desirable.)
A case in point: the standard field howitzer of WWII was 105mm. The US version weighed about 5,000 lbs and had a range of about 10km. (Give or take...) The German version of a 105mm Howitzer had specs which were, for all practical purposes, identical.
Now, the standard US towed howitzer is the M777 with a weight of about 8,000 lbs and a range of about 24km for normal rounds and 30km for base-bleed (e.g. Excalibur). (There is an M777ER (a3?) in the works which adds some barrel length, fires a rocket-assisted projectile (rap) and has a rumored range near 70km.)
In WWII, the US "Long Tom" 155mm Gun had a range of 24km. The same as the modern howitzer. The drawback was that it weighed 30,000 lbs.
Modern howitzers are FAR more capable than their WWII forebears...
