I'm pretty sure that is not correct. I suspect what was done was that the selected T-34 .mdr file from RT was placed into CMFI, but renamed as a PzIV so that it would show up and be available in the editor. This will mean however that every time that specific PzIV type is selected the T-34 model would be used. A new texture does not change the shape of the 3d model.

The Peiper Campaign maps are particularly awesome - I have walked that ground many times on battlefield tours and when you go into ground level view in game and just look around on some of those maps, it is just like being there for real.

WJA, all your points are on the mark.
and some here have pointed out a few of them can be somewhat resolved with features presently in the game.
Other items are likely not going to be resolved,  but it does not hurt to point them out. The sad thing is I am sure the designers also know about these short comings along withy some others not mentioned.
We as players can get very critical as to the game needing to represent things correctly as to how it is in real life. I am sure I have done it myself more than a few times over the years. But the truth is, it is a game and it is a computer program with all sorts of compromises in the programming that has been made but to us the user it seems to reflect reality pretty good.
I am just amazed that it does as well as it does. The things we complain about the game is pretty limited compared to all the things the game is trying to portray.
These guys really do try to get it right and we as the consumer needs to be reminded that they have made a huge effort to do just that.
So keep that in mind before you make comments that sound like the effort has not been put into trying to get it to do things as correct as possible.
We the consumer needs to realize there is going to be short comings, just is how it is. So when asking about possible improvements, keeping our tone in a positive manor is important. Because there is limits to what they can do.
Nothing wrong in making suggestions, but acting upset because they are there is not a mature way of seeing it.

    Hello all,
About seven years ago the computer I was using to play CMSF1 had a severe crash and I lost everything associated with the game. I had several login names as I was purchasing these great games but over time I had forgotten them. I sent in a ticket to the Support Team and John really helped me. So, I just wanted to say thank you to him and the outstanding service he provided me. I just wish more of the gaming companies took care of their customers in the same way Battlefront does theirs.

Because players never get that this is a rare event and we'd do it all the time.  Take a look at the AAVs in Al Nasiriyah and tell me you are gonna drive those around anywhere near enemy RPGs on a regular basis or risk the mobility of your AAV just to knock a hole in a wall.

They've gotten progressively nicer since FI. Black Sea, Red Thunder and Final Blitzkrieg were absolutely exceptional on release. And with SF2 the only major mods I've installed (besides effects type stuff) are Kieme's buildings. I think I am only using one vehicle mod. They did great work on it.
    Nice vid, btw.
That's subjective. You don't have to do anything. Whatever amount of mods you have installed is because you wanted them. There are a lot of people who don't use mods. However, I think Reshade can remedy a lot of stuff people find objectionable with no modding whatsoever. We've come a long way since SF1 and CMA and even CMBN in my opinion.

The helpful thing has been done already, upload them to CMMODs. If you'd done one a day you could have uploaded 69 of them since ...
    http://community.battlefront.com/topic/126413-loads-of-cmsf-mods-in-one-download-here/
Even if you'd uploaded one every couple of days we would be 34 mods better off.
Unfortunately the only place we're at is 'you could try to be helpful' or varying statements about how many mods you've got or the number of bytes they occupy on whatever storage media you have, which quite frankly is not helping anybody is it?

So I picked up Black Sea about 3 months ago.... this game is truly amazing. The amount of micromanaging you can do is staggering ,
the choices and strategy  you can make  is endless ……. do I take more ammo  ...or do I keep em lite so they are faster … do I call in air support or use artillery , do I throw down a
smoke screen or just try to run thru an ambush …. do I go to the high ground of try to infiltrate thru the forest ….do I leave my flanks exposed and go for the throat ...or play it safe ….. the campaigns, quick battles,  an building my own battles are great and endless ...
I find myself constantly thinking about the game... how "next time" I will do things differently and try a new approach …  or bring  a different troop package into battle .
I am sure there are people out there that don't like the game or are sick of it by now  or want to change this and that , and I don't disagree that  I wish I could
change some things or improve others  , but for someone new to it.... I am like a little kid on Christmas all over again ….

Others have already commented generally on the differences, or the typical roles. You'll see the recurring theme: XOs, Platoon Sergeants (or Platoon Warrant Officers depending on the nation) tend to have overlap in roles regarding cas evac, combat service support and first echelon supply (e.g.: scooting around with a jeep full of ammo). If you want to get lost in the sauce and split hairs over branches, different countries whatever, then that's your prerogative but I think it's an exercise in futility. The bottom line of all these points is that there's more similarities than differences in how Western countries operate their armies.
Now to confuse you: If you're looking for clarification, let me make something perfectly clear, none of this is perfectly clear.
Seriously, 'SOPs' are all well and good but the best commander will think on his feet. SOPs are only there for the most general of general situations. Ultimately: the goal of an XO, a 2IC, PSG, PWO or whatever meaningless acronym to say "Number 2" you wish to use, is to help ease the burden of command on his Number 1. This can, and often is, done through the aforementioned means of policing up the rear of a unit or helping evac losses, etc. Now as @Combatintman has already mentioned some limitations in the game (especially regarding platoon NCOs), as well as the fact that CM's mission-oriented scale means you rarely have to deal with Combat Service Support I'll use another example of how a 2IC/XO/Yadda yadda can help ease command.
What CM does get right is the information aspect of battles. A commander, as you said, needs to be up front and aware of the situation to effectively command. The flipside of this is he is only seeing a small slice of the pie. Use your Number 2 to help paint a complete picture rapidly. Lets say this: If the Company leader is with say, Platoons 2 and 3, which is making the main effort, keep the XO with Platoon 1 and its attachments. You accomplish several of your desired goals at once: You are putting your XO to use and not putting your entire command network in the same place to die at once. It also means the XO can keep the Commander 'in the loop' about happenings elsewhere on the tactical battlefield, and exert some authority.
You're looking for clear answers where there are none, is the gist of what I'm saying. Exert a bit of common sense and do not let an asset as useful as a second in command go to waste sitting on its thumbs.
Again you're asking for clear answers where there are none. For the sake of brevity I'll just tell you to look at @Howler's posts again because all I'd do is repeat what he had to say.
There is no cut-out answer you can simply paste on to a situation. Identify the problem you need to solve and plan accordingly. If I am absolutely forced to give you a few spitball examples, I might make the best/best lead platoon the main effort in a situation where C2 is likely to be dodgy, such as in built-up terrain. I may be less picky if I'm attacking in open terrain and the virtual CO can exert his influence with greater ease. I'm not even going to address the minutiae of 'which weapon goes into which hands' because it is, to me, trite. Such decisions like that rarely make a meaningful impact past the smallest of unit scenarios, a coherent plan is much more important than which nineteen year old has the HAT.
Otherwise, if you are still starving for a general rule you want that is most applicable, refer to @Combatintman 's post: Put your best foot forward for the toughest issues.

I regularly buy games for my boys for their PS4 and XBOX and  it's  50 € each time. I remember one that the elder finished in 4 hours!
when I discovered CMBN, I did not have any games on my PC and I had to buy one with enough power and a graphics card (talking to Madame about the interest of such a computer for the studies of children you can lift mountains ...)
Then I buy the CMBN game. like i do not have enough computer flow I buy it in disc with customs fees
All combined, game and PC , I paid a little more than 1000 €
    Well, I do not regret!
The number of hours passed since but especially the pleasure of the game justifies more than largely such expense
I happen to buy a good bottle of wine at 100 or 200 € which ends in 1 hour I do not regret either, everything is a matter of choice

I for one have no complaints at all with how you have decided to do the upgrades on all the games and how you have priced the add-ons and upgrades to the engine.
I also am impressed with CMSF 2 in that you made it work being able to load old CMSF 1 scenarios.
When I read complaints about how you are pricing and marketing games, I generally see it appears to be a customer who either is not someone that is going to spend much time with the product or its someone that thinks the world owes them things for free. ( Both of which have come from a gaming industry that teaches them that those two principles can be somewhat true).  So I have no feelings of remorse for them when they find out this company does not work on such concepts.
I also have found that I have never regretted a purchase of your games  in that I likely get about 800 hours a year of gaming entertainment with you products.
Where as, there is hardly any other game that has managed a 100 hours of my time in the whole time of ownership and many a game that has not given me 10 hours of time before I never want to see it again.
Keep up the good work and live long and prosper

Pete Wenman reacted to Combatintman in Terrain Description
Ok I'll meet you half way, what is out there is less than optimal and I think the manual could probably do with a little more expansive explanation of the various terrain types.
As others have said, terrain pretty much behaves as you would expect it to in real life so if you wouldn't want to walk or drive over it in real life, it will probably present the same risks in CM. For instance I've never thought to question what 'Grass Y' is because to me it is grass that is yellow in colour.
If you imagine walking down the pavement/sidewalk and you see something brown - take a closer look at it. If its dogsh1t don't stand in it, if its anything else it is probably safe to stand on. Same as CM, if the tile is brown, decide whether it is mud or not and if it is, try and avoid it. Fords and streams are also areas which should be avoided unless absolutely necessary for the same reasons that you would avoid driving over them in real life. If you don't need to drive through hedges and fences then don't because you pick up minor damage to your vehicle, as you would in real life. Off the top of my head, pretty much everything else is good to go or, if not, poses negligible chance of bogging unless of course the underlying conditions in the scenario are wet and it is raining.
I really wouldn't stress that much about it, if you do then the only logical outcome of this is that you will find yourself plotting unit moves from action spot to adjacent action spot so as to remove any possibility of the Tac AI making a unit cross terrain that you're not sure about and that will soon end up being very tedious indeed. Herein lies a top tip though, it is worth making the effort to plot precise moves in areas where terrain is difficult or you think that the AI will do something crazy in its pathfinding.
I hope this helps and I'm sure you'll get the hang of it with a couple more games under your belt, remember that most of us are still trying to master the challenge that CM presents after years of play because it is like chess, easy to learn the mechanics but hard to master.
What is guaranteed every time you play is that one of your best/heaviest armoured/best gunned vehicles will bog and immobilise within the first ten minutes of the game, with a full ammunition load at a point on the map where it can have absolutely no effect on the battle. This of course is Murphy's Law of Combat (Mission).
