About artillery - since it requires spotting rounds to make sure it hits where you want it to hit - how would a spotter know if artillery is on point if he does not see the rounds and thus can't communicate corrections?

SlowMotion got a reaction from BletchleyGeek in Map making for computer wargames just done right
I wish we had something like this for CM games!!
If we could just make roads etc that are NOT dependent on the current map tile system.
In other words things currently roads, buildings etc. have to use 45 degree rotations.
And drawing hills and forest areas like in the movie...

    This is quite awesome.
I am not sure what is the resolution of the underlying grid - being a Bn level late horse and musket game probably like 100 meters - but this is pretty great and I find it quite inspiring. Just being able to trace roads and water courses like that would be a pretty awesome step forward in facilitating the creation of scenarios for CM.
General Staff is a new war game which is being developed by an old timer of computer wargames (maybe somebody remembers their Universal Wargame Systems), which back in the day had a very different vibe from the games created by designers like Norm Koger, John Tiller or Gary Grigsby.

I think that very few of the peolpe here that ask for additinal content for CMSFII does so with a negative frame of mind...
I'm pretty sure that almost all of us Think that this update-idea of CMSF that BFC is currently working on is a brilliant one...and we truely are apprisiative !
What i think most people actually mean when they ask for more content is something like this...
By updating CMSF BFC have done a huge amount of work and will get fairly Little in excange for it (moneyvise..) Why not expand on it ? They have a top class 'basegame' already done (almost)...Why not continue on this  work by adding a few modules down the line ? adding extra formation packs...etc.
Charging full price for the modules/packs to 'help' pay for all the work they have put into the basegame...
Leaving it as a basegame only...they will miss out on an oppertunity to get some Money-in...
The intrest is there (i'm pretty sure) for additional content to CMSFII among us 'the players'

Was that system in service in 2007-2008 is the question though?
While I too would love a CM:SF that's updated to CM:BS technology (& beyond), that's not what is currently on offer (CM:SF Expansion Pack 1 maybe?).

SlowMotion got a reaction from Bulletpoint in Tanks shooting through bocage
In CMBN v4 I've noticed that most tanks etc can spot and shoot through bocage.
But for some reason some units like German Marder III cannot. They can only spot, but either they can't shoot or it is rare (because the enemy kills them first).
    Is this a bug?
I haven't tested all similar tank hunter vehicles, is this same thing happening with them also.

I assume CMSF2 will happen during same era as the original CMSF, about 10 years ago.
If there will be a new CM game one day where events happen in future (like 2020 or 2025) and weapons and equpment are what is planned to be available then, I believe air force will be much more important role than in CMSF or Black Sea. Missiles launched from helicopters, aircraft and drones have improved a lot on this century and some can be launched as salvos so a fighter place could destroy several tanks or vehicles during one attack.

SlowMotion reacted to Bootie in The Scenario Depot III
    Hello Gentlemen

I bring you exciting news of the new Scenario Depot III which has been funded by The Few Good Men.  As we all know The Scenario Depot II was the go to place for Scenario downloads with its most successful period being from the mid-90's to the early 00's for the CMX1 series of games.  Unfortunately it was never updated to encompass the CMX2 series of games but all that is about to change.  I introduce to you The Scenario Depot III.

The new site is a community wide project and despite being hosted on The Few Good Men servers membership of The FGM is not required.  We have reached a stage where the site is pretty much finished and all that remains to be tested now is its load bearing capabilities.

The Scenario Depot III is the place to upload your completed play tested scenarios for the enjoyment of the CMx2 community and I'm asking if you scenario designers out there would do me the honour of starting to upload your scenarios to the database as a stress test exercise.  If all goes well The Scenario Depot III will be up and running henceforth.

    The site is available HERE

Please read 'The About The Scenario Depot III' section and then go to 'Upload A File' to go through the simple process of getting your scenario into our database awaiting front page post upload.

I would like to thank Gary Krockover the original designer of The Scenario Depot II and The Proving Grounds for his permission to launch the next era of the sites catering for the new games released by Battlefront in the CMX2 series.

The site covers all CMX2 games [Afghanistan, Shock Force, Battles for Normandy, Fortress Italy, Red Thunder , Black Sea] and has areas waiting to be opened for the Bulge games forthcoming release.

As well as scenarios and campaigns the site also offers the capability of uploading user designed maps for players to download.

At present we have just the one map uploaded so please pop over and start adding your content and if you wish to donate towards the endeavour there is a link at the bottom of the right hand column for you generous folk out there.  Donations will go towards the programmes required to get The Proving Grounds up and running which is phase 2 of the project.  I look forward to seeing your work being submitted.

    Thanks for reading.

Normally confiscated weapons get anihilated in Germany after the criminal procedure. Hope this will not happen here. These things should be brought into a Museum and not into a scrap press. This would be a great pity! ;o)

What amuses me most ist that he had torpedo. A freaking Torpedo! Calibre 533mm and filled with about half a ton of high explosives! According to one of articles, he initially even had more than just one torpedo but he sold the others... my guess is because he couldnt get a submarine.

During a police raid in Kiel, Germany, police found, amongst other WW2 weapons and munitions, a V1, a Panther tank and a torpedo in his villas basement and garage. They called the Bundeswehr to help them transport and disarm the weapons.

SlowMotion got a reaction from sburke in feature request: available air support in UI
Currently  air support and artillery units that are available to player during battle
are shown so that if there are many units you have to scroll the list horizontally.

My request is: would it be possible to display these support units so that destroyed units (like a helicopter that has been shot down) would be shown at right?
This way the still active units would be shown at left and player wouldn't need to scroll as much as now.

SlowMotion reacted to sonar in Google Earth find
Hi, was looking on google earth and found what can only be, to my mind, soviet defence works on the Kerch peninsula. In the attached jpg, you can clearly see the trench lines and there is what must be an anti tank ditch that can still be traced running cross the neck of the peninsula, and is in the correct area, that being where Manstiens 11th Army broke through the soviet line .Loads of cratering,
also a line of pill boxes in front of the main defense line. loads of interesting stuff in this area. looks like it has been left more or less undisturbed since the war. If anyone wants to check it out on maps or eath, the screenshot is taken about 3km along the road south of the village of Batal'ne. Here you can pick up the anti tank ditch where it crosses the road. This is all of course assuming I am correct in my thinking, but i am quite confident that this is what it appears to be. Cheers
