Redwolf reacted to Centurian52 in Cold War Module speculation...
I definitely want them to cover the current time period in as much depth as possible before they start expanding it out. Depth before breadth. At a minimum get most of the NATO and WP roster filled out for the Central European front. Getting Scandinavia in there as well would also be nice.
When they do start expanding the timeframe I'm hoping they will extend it into the late 80's, up to 89. 1989 is an interesting setting to me because that is the year that World in Conflict is set in and it was WiC that first got me interested in the Cold War. But I would also be very interested in a 1962 setting.
In 1962 most of the equipment of the current setting would be present, but it will be earlier variants of everything, all shooting less modern ammunition. The M60 would be as new as the Abrams is in 1982, and the M48 would be sporting the good ol' 90mm gun. I've always been curious how a classic M48 (A3 or earlier) would fare against a T55. US infantry would be armed with the M14, giving them barely more firepower than they had in WW2 (there might be some XM16s with 20 round mags kicking around). Soviet infantry would have the classic AKM. The era of the ATGM would not yet have begun, with the Sagger only entering service next year. The AT work will instead be done by recoilless rifles and old school AT guns. It would be an absolutely fascinating period. If the current setting of CMCW is a perfect midpoint between the WW2 titles and CMSF, then 1962 would be a perfect midpoint between the WW2 titles and the current CMCW setting.
And of course once British forces get added in we will get to see the Centurion in action as well, which is something I would be particularly interested in (I chose my username so long ago I don't remember if I was naming myself after the tank or the Roman leadership position, but if the latter I'm happy enough to retcon it to saying that the tank is my namesake (yeah I know my account on the BFC forums is only a few months old, I've been using this name for everything for much longer though)).

There is a fixed total number of helmets in the game. The US ones had to come from somewhere.

One reason why disabled, burning vehicles block LOS and intact vehicles do not:
moving LOS blockers on the map make the overall LOS computation code very complicated, and very slow. Think about it: the way it is now LOS only changes when a vehicle starts burning, and then the new LOS blocker never moves again. Compare that to run a fully dynamic LOS code with ALL (intact) vehicles moving all the time.

If the Jagdpanther had already shot a tank in the close proximity they have the range correct. It is realistic to have first-shot hits in that area from then on.
And a tank wreck doesn't block LOF, or LOS (unless burning).

Can somebody who knows more about 3D technology explain why anisotropic filtering doesn't get rid of the moire effect in CMx2? I thought that was the whole point of anisotropic filtering.

I don't agree. The amount of tools that BFC put in to script the AI, and made UI elements for, is quite extensive.
I'm not saying the AI is competitive, but it isn't because BFC outright gave up on it.
Now, if we could code our own AI via an API of some sort...

I am no expert on 3D, but I do know a little about moiré in the traditional sense and consequentially why anisotropic filters don't do anything to alleviate it. A moiré pattern is usually caused when two screen patterns interfere with each other, in print this could happen when images that have already been printed, and so made into a pattern of dots, are then printed again so that the dot pattern that makes up the original printed image clashes with the dot pattern of the newly printed image, producing interference. The same effect used to be quite common on older CRT TVs when, for instance, someone wore a striped tie which would clash with the lines that made up the TV screen image. What we see in CM is similar to this, the lines of the ploughed field are clashing, or interfering, with the lines that make up the screen image.
Anisotropic filtering is doing a couple of things, the primary objective is to tackle aliasing of surface textures, the jaggies along edges, noticeably in CM the shadows have quite jaggy edges. It also helps to sharpen some details. Ultimately it probably makes moirés worse because of the sharpening. To get rid of the moiré would require the reverse, that is some filter that blurs or softens, or even randomises, the offending linear textures, which we sadly don't have.
There are some filters in ReShade that can effect softening and blurring, but I've not had a look to see if we could remove the moiré with them as I only tend to use those filters for screen shots at ground level where moiré is not an issue.

When I was called upon to research the timeframe I had to look no farther than the pile of dog-eared reference books on my bookshelf. It was as though i had been prepping for this project since 1979. This was MY timeframe hobbyist-wise.

As far as I am concerned StuG, Pz IV and Sherman can as well have the same price.
(which I think was roughly the case in CMx1's points calculation formula)

It seems BFC are confused about their own pricing system.
How else do we explain that a Panzer II with a 20mm cannon and 1 MG and no cupola costs 155 points, while a Stuart with a 37mm gun that can also fire canister rounds, 2 MGs, a .50 cal and a cupola costs 114 points?

And that's before we add the whopping 1240 rarity points for the Panzer II, and the ... 114 rarity points for the Stuart.

If a Stuart is still too expensive for you, there's also a Greyhound scout car which has most of what the Stuart has, but for 84 points and 0 rarity points.

    My theory.
I meant that the pricing thinks that side armor is not important, so that means that Tigers are not being made expensive for their armor.
Likewise, the pricing thinks ammo loadout is no big deal. MGs are no big deal etc.
The Sherman is cheap because the most important pricing point is the main gun's ability to penetrate armor. As you say, its front armor should make it more expensive as it is even within the current pricing scheme.

Steam does improve the patching process. If it has a patch. If it doesn't, it's not the fault of steam, plain and simple.

I think what is way more off than StuG vs Pz IV is StuG versus King Tiger.
    299 vs 418 purchase points.
Buy 7 Stugs or 5 King Tigers.
