    Kieme,

The last three face mods (50% glasses, dirty faces, and additional faces) really enhance the look of the US troops. Awesome work!

I didn't play Arma 2 much, but I spent a few months really trying to make the Iron Front A2 mod package (meaning IF imported into A2 and fully updated with added realism mods post import) do what CM does as a SP experience. I spent a lot of time in the editor setting up formations and defenses and running games as close to playing in a CM style as I could.

It ain't even close, folks. At first, I really thought I was on to something, but eventually, I found so many holes it wasn't even funny and gave up.

I lost my taste for Arma/IF after that.

You can get an incredible first-person experience out of it, but you have to accept it for what it is. It is in no way in the same league as CM for a full-spectrum, realistic battlefield sim experience. And the modelling of hits/vehicle damage, ballistics, and arty is far superior in CM.

    Welcome to the forum.

You've already got some good ideas. Other folks will add more I'm sure, but if you have ammo, don't hesitate to shoot up any buildings that look dangerous before you advance and while you're advancing, if you can keep your troops from being impacted by the fire. If you use small arms, enemy units may respond to your fire, letting you know that they are there. With ordnance, they may just be suppressed without you knowing.

    Some other ideas:
Never advance whole squads. Always break into teams. Have your MG teams area target briefly on likely danger spots while your other split teams advance. Have your advancing teams pause for 15 sec at the door and fire into the buildings you want to enter first. Once you get the enemy cowering (ie, have them suppressed), you can reduce your fire level and keep their heads down (mostly). So, for example, target briefly with your heavy stuff and then move an action square forward or back and then target light to keep them suppressed. Don't forget you might have smoke grenades (check the wind direction and strength before using). If you have demo charges, look for ways to flank and blast into buildings to reduce your exposure and take out potential ambushers. That's all I have time for at the moment. I'm sure you'll get more ideas and/or have others expand on what I've given.

Or, you could try the Iron Broom technique by massing your vehicles with infantry just behind, blowing the crap out of each line of action squares as you advance  (pause for 15-30 sec, target for that long, advance 1-2 action squares, repeat). I used it a few times in CMRT and was trading 1-2 men for whole platoons of Soviet infantry. -Not sure if it would work as well with modern gear--but it is FUN to do (if a bit tedious)!

A single Javelin took out two of my T90A's that were parked side by side yesterday. Always leave at least two action squares worth of space between your vehicles!

Luckily, both my BTR and anti-tank team got them off first:

Macisle got a reaction from slysniper in How to overcome Tunguskas?
If possible, you want to destroy those Tunguskas before your air arrives. In addition to the Javelins, your Bradleys should be able to chew up any Tunguskas they find with their Bushmaster main guns (or missiles, but they are slower). They just need to get the first shot in.

I just did a quick draw test: 6 Brads vs. 6 Tunguskas on the default tiny flat map at 260m. I ran the test 3 times. Results:

One lightly damaged B, six dead Ts.  One dead and three damaged Bs, 6 dead Ts.  One dead and 4 damaged Bs, 6 dead Ts. So, try to isolate the Tunguskas and attack with at least 2 to 1 odds with your Brads, if you're using those. In my three test runs, the Bradleys never fired any missiles.

Nice work by the gully BMP. With a burst of 30mm like that, you may well have stripped the Abrams of its weapon systems--or at least degraded them.

I wonder how much BMP 30mm fire will become a primary fear of the US player. Although it can't kill an Abrams from the front, the speed of its attack and ability to degrade systems quickly may often make it more of a danger than Russian tanks.

What is your feeling on that, Bil?

It sure would be nice to have an off toggle for that. I love using the mouse buttons and drag for my camera control, but very frequently catch the screen edge with the pointer and get catapulted into oblivion.

Improving the infantry animations is now at the top of my CM Wish List.

I think it's time. They clash with the better quality of the models and textures and the smoothness of the vehicle animations.

This topic has been discussed many times before. Those conversations can be searched for.

The short answer is that BF has looked into this very carefully and the cons of being on Steam outweigh the pros. So, there is zero chance CM will be on Steam, unless Steam makes changes to its policies that would alter the pro/con balance.

I very much agree with the last two posts.

Steam is today's hot thing for mainstream gamers, but tomorrow? Who knows.

BF's purchasing audience is super-niche and can be targeted through other means like YouTube.

The key is for them to maintain control of their product and revenue stream while mining the 100% positive marketing vehicles like YouTube that are out there and ever-evolving.

My CMRT video has been up for less than a month and has had 1650 viewers. I made sure to put in good tags and plaster BF's URL in visible places.

Every month that goes by, there is more and more content online related to CM. That means that people who are actually going to buy and play CM are more and more likely going to hear about it.

Why give up part of your profit and control to something when you don't really need to, as MikeyD just pointed out?

Of course, the Carny is always going to look for the psychological buttons to push to make the Mark buy a ticket and throw balls. Just like the investment advisor is always going to push inventments. As long as they get their cut, who cares what happens to the guy who just handed over his cash, right?
