    Hi,
    have you guys seen this?
You probably have but worth watching if not. Interesting to see how the military use CM.
Unimaginably lucky to have CM. For tactics, tactics and more tactics functions in a different stratosphere to other wargames🙂.
    All the best,
    Kip.

I've not thought of it like that before, but I'm just about within sight of the Atlantic (well the Bristol Channel to be precise) so I don't disagree.
By 'those in the East' you must mean those who fought over the area in the RT Battle Pack 😉?  And now we're back on-topic 😬.

LET US DO THIS AGAIN? I give everybody more time. I want to see those cherries raise their hands. Make a scenario for the community.
Alright, 110 days until X-mas. (Julian 359-249=110). The gauntlet is down for you guys, especially you "cherries", to make a scenario, your first scenario...?, before Christmas. Let us swamp the community with some scenarios. Use or modify an existing map if you need to (and give polite credit in your briefing or designers notes to prevent accusations of being a dreaded parasite!). Make your own simple map! No Rembrandts are required! Dial it down to 208 x 208, if needed, the teeniest tiniest map you can make. BUT ANY SIZE MAP IS GOOD! Playable from only one side is AOK. Just make sure to say that guidance in the main cover description. Use just a tiny force. Put the AI on defence and the AI plan is very rudy..rudo..ruddimuntary..it is EASIER! Use just a small timeframe of 10 minutes!  I (and a butt ton of others) am here to lend a hand to answer questions or go now and read the famous JonS scenario guide pdf in your main install folder. All these different titles can use some new juices. I got a couple coming down. I will edit this and state how many scenarios we got from last time. Standby, EDIT: I think it was between 16 and 20. I did release many but had a few hit a creative wall so maybe this year, they get done.
**NEW IDEA: Maybe do some QB maps with simple AI plans?
I am not a CMCW, CMSF2, CMBS modern war bubba but please use this as a reason to make a scenario for those games. This is not just for WW2 games.

Best wishes and who wants to post a pledge to make a scenario?

Commanderski reacted to Butschi in Script to automatically set the elevation in the editor
I wrote a little python script to set the elevation in the editor according to a digital elevation model. Those come in various resolutions, for instance, in Germany data for the whole of Northrhine Westfalia is available for free with a 1mx1m granularity. I then use PyAutoGui in order to automate setting the correcting height and clicking/scrolling in the editor. The script currently sets the height information for every square in the editor, not just contours.
    An example height map:

The resulting terrain in the editor (3328mx1920m):

    Vista somewhere in there.

The script is not terribly fast, making this map took about 7h, but it beats doing all the clicking yourself. The limitation, btw., is the editor, the script could go faster. The advantage is that you can do much better micro-terrain, I think, the disadvantage is that you can't just use an old topographical map and draw the contour lines. It would be possible to do contour lines but you'd need to have those in a machine readable format.
Anyway, if people here are interested, I could polish the code a bit and make it available to everyone, e.g. via github. If there is additional interest, I could imagine doing other stuff that way, like, for instance, drawing roads from Open Street Map.

just boot up Final Blitzkrieg and play a game in heavy woods for the next three hours. it’s mind numbing to me. Not sure why people want an entire game of just that.

I've always wanted to see the KVs in action. There's all sorts of lend-lease vehicles that could be added too like Churchills and Stuarts and Matildas. A T-34 with a mine roller would be amazing too, I think ever CM game needs some sort of mine roller vehicle.

100% agree. I would like to have a vehicle pack for RT. There are a lot of vehicles and tanks that can be added to the game. By soviet side we could get  KV1-S, KV85 and maybe some earliest KV models still in service ( same with first T-34 versions survivors and deployed with second line units).
By german side I'm thinking on subversions such as  Jagdpanther G2, Jagdtiger Porsche, Tiger II Porsche (used at least one or two in Balaton offensive) More captured material (as Sherman) and very early german models reconverted . And please, ... A TRUE ... PzIVJ Late.

At-Z.  However the red lines are purely informational and do not join units together like a giant red rubber band.  The enemy could use Sturm Scissors and ruin everything!

If you want "Japanese Troops" it's literally as simple as setting scenarios with unsupported light infantry with maybe 2-3 light machine guns between one hundred riflemen, the occasional light mortar, and in defense a pair of HMGs. Troops sent to the Pacific usually had nothing like their assigned equipment allotments-there appears to have been very little in the way of assigned equipment tables at all in the Japanese Army. Forces in China were generally better organized than the ones in the Pacific to be fair-but the near total lack of infrastructure in that country could make it just as hard often to justify the presence of heavy equipment that couldn't be brought up ever. Again-the one exception to this seems to have been airplanes.
Much of this is due to the peculiar manner in which Japanese troop detachments "coalesced" around charismatic and individualistic commanders who seem to have generally just grabbed whatever troops and equipment were available and carried out attacks on their own initiative. Superiors were then usually obliged to support such actions in the name of avoiding humiliation for poor discipline. There are a ridiculous number of examples all over CBI and the Pacific of Japanese Troop detachments marching off to attack or bypass enemy positions without formal orders to do so and at least at the start of the war this sort of bravado usually paid off against enemy troops who were badly led. Allied Commanders in particular invited their own destruction all the time by simply assuming Japanese forces wouldn't be able to bypass strongpoints by using the jungles to just outflank them-since Allied Commanders would never do that. It's how the British lost Malaya so fast. The Americans had minimized their own vulnerabilities to such tactics at Bataan-but not because they knew how the Japanese were conducting their attacks, more because the objective was to thwart efforts to use the Port at Manila for as long as possible by protecting Corregidor.

” Five Days One Summer" campaign
This is a six mission campaign (with up to four possible branches involving a total of thirteen missions), involving II./SS-Pz.Rgt. 5 and III “Germania” which were part of Kampfgruppe Mühlenkamp, covering a period of intense combat in eastern Poland to prevent the Soviet spearheads of the 2nd White Russian Front from advancing westwards during the week 16-22 July 1944.p> Really looking forward to this campaign. One of my favorite periods of fighting on the Eastern front, with the Wiking (and Totenkopf) division desperately trying to stop the Russian steam roller. Buy Douglas E. Nash books on the IV. SS Panzerkorps and you will be in for a wonderful autumn full of exploding tanks and fascinating tactics.
    ”Tigers at Ogledow" campaign
This campaign covers a very well-known engagement where King Tigers from "Schwere Panzer-Abteilung 501 commanded by Major von Legat underwent their combat debut on the Soviet/German front when they encountered elements from the 1st Guards Tank Army during operations to reduce the Soviet Baranov Bridgehead in August 1944. This campaign was a lovely surprise for me. A very interesting part of the Eastern front in August 1944 and a great opportunity to smash the Baranov bridgehead or at least experience why the Germans couldn't pull that off.
    13 standalone scenarios
These scenarios range in size from small platoon sized engagements to battalion sized engagements on 12km squared maps. As the use of German SPW is a theme in this battle pack there is a series of three ‘training’ scenarios to help the player become familiar with getting the best out of this type of unit. All the standalone scenarios are geared towards both head to head play and against the AI. Another nice surprise in this Battlepack! As good looking as  they are, SPWs are hard to handle and even harder to keep alive. From small platoon sized engagements to battalion sized engagements on 12km squared maps!
    14 Master Maps
New maps based on maps from the Battle Pack missions. Maps made by George are the best around. It doesn't get any better than fighting on one of his maps for the ultimate Eastern front feeling.
For anyone even slightly interested in the Eastern front, this battlepack is a must have. George is one of the few people who keeps on producing high quality and detailed scenarios and campaigns, so pre-order this battlepack, folks, and show him it's highly appreciated!

When you read first person accounts of war and other conflicts you know that strange things happen during the fighting. At the moment I'm reading a book about the experiences of German tank commanders of Panther tanks. It's running the gauntlet blindfolded while being shot at from all sides. That's why I'm not easily shocked or annoyed by CM soldiers who panic or run at the wrong moment. War is the definition of chaos.
