+1 Anyone would complain if the geometry of the Tiger tank was this far wrong, so complaining about a helmet that will be on every single German soldier is quite fair imo.

I've been beaten by RED human opponents quite a few times and if you know how to get the most out of the Syrian forces it is actually quite easy to get a decent balanced game. I also disagree with the suggestion that bigger map sizes give a better chance to the Syrians. They are much better off doing short range hit and runs and negating the vastly superior optics and accuracy of Blue forces. RPG-29 is a very capable weapon and some of the Red vehicles are also quite capable though their protection is poor.

Good idea for the "module" icon.

Will it run on a 2010 Macbook Air?
hoolaman replied to pirey4's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
My XP desktop PC has similar or worse specs than that and runs the game OK, however you may find that the graphics card will be your weak link. The MacBook lacks a lot of dedicated graphics RAM which both CMSF and CMBN eat like candy. No idea how that translates to the Mac either. Wouldn't be surprised if it runs but don't expect silky framerates. -
How did you find out about Combat Mission?
hoolaman replied to ChrisND's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I was never a "wargamer" but in 2002 or thereabouts I was on a big WW2 reading/reasearch binge on sites like Axis History and I began to look into finding a sim that got into the trenches. I had M1 Tank Platoon 2 and Close Combat and Panzer General before this and always knew they were just not right. I think I found a review of CMBO on a game website while searching for a realistic WW2 game. There was a screenshot there and knew I had found what I was looking for. -
Don't forget the GF was destroyed in the forum migration so that thread might be gone. Maybe the CMSF thread but I couldn't find anything though searches for Abrmas Iraq etc are very hard to narrow down.

No Javelin Launchers in AAV-7A1 (USMC)
hoolaman replied to Euri's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
It's a bit of a fudge due to limitations of the game TO&E IIRC. IRL there would be enough reloads stowed in the AAV if the particular task called for them. In CMSF because the AAV platoon is a dedicated formation shared across a Marine task force, there is no way of saying that they should sometimes have Jav reloads and sometimes not. So all AAVs get them "just in case" and the limiting factor becomes the number of teams that carry the launcher. IOW pretend they are not really there. -
No the map tiles were 20x20, but the actually underlying simulation grid was 1x1 m or thereabouts. Think how much sub-tile detail there was, like buildings, foxholes, LOS and LOF calculations and movement of squads and vehicles could all be done in much finer detail.

Maybe they meant body parts, cattle AND radioactive materials. Any one of them is fine, but all three and you are clearly up to something.

A little bit of a shame he didn't have a more public send-off after being such a big part of Combat Mission history both as a fan and as a employee.

Well if he is really hanging around with someone who has a history of anti-semitic activity it is fairly plausible and even understandable that Jewish activists would be out to get him. It is pretty clear to me that the rhetoric employed against him is very powerful, and I take anthing attributed to him or his associates with a big grain of salt. For example, the "informants deserve to die" comment was supposedly uttered to a room full of journalists but only turns up for the first time reported in a book by a rival who had a falling out with him??? That is rather implausible to me.

A Window Opens and a Window Closes

Cool. Someone has too much time on their hands. -
Frankos rules in CM1 were a bit impratical because the terrain was not WYSIWYG. There would be a tree sprite blocking your view even though that unit had LOS.

You might ruin the immersion and lose some FOW but you could ceasefire and see what the objectives are in the game end screen. This will also show what you have currently achieved. (Save first!)

I'm sure they didn't fully code up the rain mist and fog and then disable it because it "never rains in Syria". More likely the grayed out options are there for later use in the game engine, but weren't a priority to finish for Syria.

I'd be willing to bet that modules for CM:BN are released slightly more frequently than those for CMSF simply because the engine is so much more mature. Of course "more frequently" could still be a year or so. My googling skills give the following: CMSF to Marines Module: 27 July 2007-12 September 2008. 1 year, 1 month, 16 days (Including multiple patches after CMSF release) Marines to Brits: 12 September 2008-29 July 2009. 10 months, 17 days (Including patches for Marines) Brits to NATO: 29 July 2009-21 October 2010. 1 year, 2 months, 22 days Brits to NATO time period includes CM:Afghanistan: Released Monday, 13 September 2010 So it looks like the 10 months or so is about a best case scenario, though it seems like if there is a lot of crossover for later modules and it is just TO&E and scenarios rather than art and new vehicles things could go quicker. eg Bulge game will have very similar equipment to CM:BN.
